Great weather at SSHS5...lots of MMs...13 or 14 racing...mine was shopping...Durango won A class...SS won B class...Durango won King of the Hill...a Linc Mark VII won Big Dog...the Linc ran the lowest et of 10.12...he must have had 20 bags of sand in that thing...the SS guys are really nice...they did a good job of putting this thing on...Maurderville combined with the SSHS would be a great venu next year IMNSHO...willie

Thanks again to Tom (MarauderTJA) for the shirts, glad to see the SSM contingent show up in force. Great to meet y'all.
Hope we can tie in with the GASSIT folks to ensure another one next year.
My personal accomplishments were new best times and representing for the Marauders up to the semi-finals in the Big Dog class.
Tom was still running in the brackets after I got eliminated, hope he did well: sorry I couldn't stay for the grand finale.
Steve (Glassman) finally outdid my times with Dennis' Vortech system and built motor, it was awesome. As Arnold says... "I'll be bach".
Glad to see so many Marauders show up, they were common instead of oddities this time around.
Surprised at lack of MOPAR representation, I reckon the SUV was about it: No Magnums, Chargers, or 300s. There were a couple of GTO's there.
Fantastic meeting, great comeraderie, good to see everybody. Equally pleasan was the lack of conflicts or "clicks" although there was a little ribbing here and there. All the blower factions were represented and all performed very well.
Downside: my traction lock no longer locks, time for another rebuild.

Absolutely best day drag racing ever. The Impala guys are the BEST crew to hang out with and put on a great event. Side note.... there WILL be a SSHS6 here in Atlanta next year, according to early inside reports!
Thanks to MarauderTJA for providing the best uniforms at the event! Also congrats on your killer RT and for making the semi's in the brackets! WTG!
Fordnut, holy cow that car is an animal! You make it hard to keep up with the Jones's!
TAF, the big banana, yes an apt moniker, more like top banana! 14.8 in a 7 THOUSAND pound truck...woof..and I'm sure we'll never hear the end of it about you making round 2... ;)
And I got to meet more MM net members as well, not great with names but I'll remember the faces and conversations.
It was GREAT to see some long-time friends....as well to meet several new friends.

Thank You
Thats the best way I can put it. You guys saved out ***. With no sponcers this year it was all about the contestents that made the day.
We have seen a drop in the number of Impalas this year but the overwhelming response from the Marauders from around the country more than made up difference.
Untill the smack talk for next year.
Thanks
PS: I fragged my lt1 yesterday, that means more options!!! Whoot!
Cool burnout!!!Sounds like it was real fun, but what about ET's???? You guys described everything but ET's.....
Here ya go Billy.....:D
Donny...you're giving me a little on 2 accounts:
1) My dial-in was 14.85...my best run was 14.864 *note to self...from now on...put your best timeslip in your wallet and just tell everyone...instead of handing it around so it gets lost* Oh well...I've got about 27 slips from last night and today...best that I physically have in my hand was my Round 1 win of 14.91 (see details below)
and 2) Truck + me in it tipped the scales at 7,940 lbs...so let's just say 8K

I always harp on 60' times because they're so crucial to optimal ET's.

Surprised at lack of MOPAR representation, I reckon the SUV was about it: No Magnums, Chargers, or 300s. There were a couple of GTO's there.
There was one Charger, though it wasn't an SRT 8. The driver was a woman, who wowed the stands at the water box by getting out, going to the trunk, then putting on a white T shirt. You had to be there. After a couple of remarks like "nice headers" it was discovered her husband was sitting in the stands with us. :o
300c SRT 8's, Magnum SRT 8's and Charger SRT 8's would have been fun to see run. Maybe next year someone can post up advance notice in thier respective web site forums to invite them.
The Caddillac SRX was interesting but kinda slow. Would be interesting to see some of the V series run, especially the STS-V with the superchager. I'm not sure about the CTS and XLR weights... but if the GTO's were 3800 pounds, I would think the CTS should be.. maybe not the XLR.
One thing I did notice was all the Impalas and SS Impalas runnin open headers that made huge noise, but didn't really run all that fast.

One thing I did notice was all the Impalas and SS Impalas runnin open headers that made huge noise, but didn't really run all that fast. That's only because their cars are getting so old that the rest of the exhausts fell off by now. :D
........ seriously though, I'm surprised they don't have problems with the PD on the way to the track with exhaust systems that loud. Perhaps those cars were trailered there. Although I thought that trailered cars were supposed to be fast. A lot of those Impala boys are serious about racing though. I remember learning a lot from some of them while talking to them in the staging lanes a couple years ago when I was racing them. Especially guys like Glen (aka "Stumpy"). BTW, I wonder if he was there, and if so, how he did. Last I heard, his N/A Impala on race gas was running in the low 12's just like my car does on pump gas.

This was one heck of a weekend. Spent with old friends and new! A great looking Team shirt made up by one very cool member here!
Funny thing is that my car failed Tech on the first try do to the fact that the batter y cut off did not shut down the car, but we fixed that. Yet the winning Lincoln Mark Whatever had at least 300 pounds of sand in his back seat. Not quite NHRA compliant. Would have been quite the sand storm had he wrecked!

I gotta give props to all you guys who came in for this event. I'm glad that more marauder guys showed this year. I had a good time checking everyone's car out. Hope you guys all had as much fun as I did. Even if I had some DR's....I couldnt hang with those boosted Marauders. I thought I heard someone mentioning a GP shortly before the shootout. Hopefully, there will be some more Mercs there if they have this again next year. Those Marauder racing shirts were cool too. I'm going to have to keep checkin in here from time to time to see what you guys are up to. Hope everyone has made it home safely...Hope to see everyone there next year. Thumbs up to the Merc crowd.

Thanks again to Tom (MarauderTJA) for the shirts, glad to see the SSM contingent show up in force. Great to meet y'all.
Tom was still running in the brackets after I got eliminated, hope he did well: sorry I couldn't stay for the grand finale.
Made it to the semi-finals in B class. First time racing brackets. Got beat by 4 tenths with a race by an Impala SS. 12.8 to a 12.4. He dialed in at 12.37, me at a 12.65. Still was fun. I did receive a delayed trophy for best overall reaction times after some confusion with the writing of 18 and 68 (my number). I was told that the 6 looked like a 1 to the officials. Was sweet to get one for the troops anyway.
Best R/T - .014
Best 60' - 1.859
Best 1/4 - 12.397
Best MPH - 111.55
Have to get into the water better for burnouts. Only had four good burnouts in 10 runs. Will get in some serious practice at the track to correct that problem real soon. I was hoping to break into the 11's there. Didn't happen. Will keep trying though and determined to eventually make it.

Tom, congratulations for bringing home a trophy. that must have been so cool for you to make it the semi-finals!!! Thanks for posting your times. I was really wondering about what they were since your car is puting 500 HP to the wheels. As far as your burnouts go, maybe Line-Lock would help you with that.

On the water... two things I can think of to help.....
First... have a "crew member" come to the line with you and help you into the water. The starters will help "some" but they aren't going to spend a lot of time. Your crew can handle that... direct you into the right spot etc.
Second... Line-Loc will keep you IN the water for as long as you or the starter can stand it !

Thanks Billy.:) Couple of things. 1. I am putting around 460-475 to the wheels. The tune pulls serious timing when it is warm to keep everything safe. I need temps in the 50's to get all the HP. 2. I do have line-locks. Claude (CarFixer) installed them one week before the event. When I did everything right, the line-locks worked great. One week before SSHS5 I had a 1.787 60 foot with a 12.305 ET at 110.57 MPH with a 76 degree temp. AT SSHS5 the best I managed was a 12.397 et with a 1.859 60 foot at 111.55 MPH. And it was around 68 degrees at that time of my first run. Warmed up in the day to the high 70's before it was all over. My better runs later in the day ranged from 12.4 to 12.8's. Was killing the tree though with R/T's. Must have been the coffee at the hotel.
My problem is that I wasn't staying in the water enough. I rolled in and out. Most of the guys were staying in the water which made for a far better burnout. It was all my screw up. Won't happen again. All my prior drag racing experience over the years was with stick cars. This is my first car with an automatic. We all had a great time and got some more experience. IN a couple of weeks I will be back at the track to seriously punish those Nittos.:burnout: Plus I am making a couple of little changes which will help the effort to get to the elusive 11's.

Your 100% right. My brother who was with me said the same thing. We will make sure to do that the next time. At my home track in Bradenton, the staff there are great and will assist you in the water box. At Atlanta you were on your own.

I spoke briefly with her. She drove 20 hours from Texas to race with us at SSHS5, and she certainly improved the scenery. ;)
300c SRT 8's, Magnum SRT 8's and Charger SRT 8's would have been fun to see run. Maybe next year someone can post up advance notice in thier respective web site forums to invite them.
I did that this year. I was on the Charger, Magnum, SRT8, and 300C boards with cordial invitations to come out and play. They were not nearly as receptive to coming out as the Marauder folks were. I'll try again next year.
One thing I did notice was all the Impalas and SS Impalas runnin open headers that made huge noise, but didn't really run all that fast.
For comparison purposes, I was running open headers (with electric cutouts). I pick up a solid 0.15-0.20 seconds ET with the pipes uncorked on just the motor. I ran a 13.86 @ 97 MPH (1.889 60-foot) on the motor. I ran a 12.74 @ 104.8 MPH (1.754 60-foot) on a 150 shot. This is a stock heads/cam motor with lots of bolt-ons. I did not do an N2O run through the mufflers, so I do not know the difference. But I expect that it would be more dramatic than NA because I have a relatively restrictive 2-1/4" exhaust system. I know that a 12.7 is not that fast, but it is a stock motor with 120K miles on it, I still had my autocross/road racing sway bars on the car, and this was my best ET to date, so I was very happy. I did trailer home a long block core to build something a little more stout. Hopefully I won't be running the stock motor at SSHS6. :D
Thanks for coming out. It was great racing and socializing with the Marauder faithful!

I like the loud noise and some of the SS's ran in the 10s...maybe about 3 to 5 them...they were very fast...I saw some run as high as 15.7 so it was a event that had every level of modding...if I had $20,000 I would probably try and buy the black SS that was for sale...it was slick, very slick...on next years' SSHS6 I am hoping to have a 468ci ford or merc at next years event...maybe a little 250 shop just for giggles...will probably never run my MM...not what I got it for...I have been to this event for the last 3 years and I cannot express my delight in seeing so many MMs run this year...in nearly 1/2 the runs there was a MM going down the track...it was awesome...might have been 6 or so last year but we had 14 running this year...a near 10 second MM and lots of low 12s for the MMs and guys lets be honest if you have got a car that runs even in the 14s it is a fairly fast car...I believe we earned some respect from the SS guys because the MMs smoked several SSs...well I am rambling so I will end with this...for me this was one of the most enjoyable events I have attended in many a moon and I know it was hard work for the SS guys so I thank them such a fine event and yes do have it again next year...willie

Especially guys like Glen (aka "Stumpy"). BTW, I wonder if he was there, and if so, how he did. Last I heard, his N/A Impala on race gas was running in the low 12's just like my car does on pump gas.
Glen/Stumpy was there but his car was not. There was some issue getting it ready in time for the event. Glen was driving the white 9C1 Caprice owned by Bryan Herter and it ran 10.9/11.0 all day.
Preacherman - You can rest assured that the Marauders and their owners are very well respected within the Impala community. As I mentioned numerous times both before and after the race - this is not an "Impala Event"; it is a "Big Car Event". The Marauder is one of us and it would not be nearly as enjoyable if they did not attend. I truly enjoyed hanging out with the fast Mercs last weekend. We couldn't have been more pleased at the Marauder turnout. Let's see if you can double your numbers again next year. :bows:
