Just went and picked up my MM from the shop. I had Ford Racing 4.10s and a rear girdle (compliments of Wes) installed. I tuned it and was off. HOLY SH$%!!!!!!! As soon as I punched it my tires spun and wouldnt stop until I let off:burnout: ......Then it was off to the freeway. Man the difference is night and day. I wish I had done this sooner!!! No gear whine at all. Anybody thinking of doing this.....DO IT!!!! You wont be sorry. Tonight I am off to the track. Time to work on the next mod....:banana2:

P.S. I know you are supposed to wait 500 miles before you really test them, but the gears I bought used from my friend who had them in his Mustang for 3000 miles and upgraded to 4.56s. So they were already broken in.

Well, I think you answered my question as to what I want to do next. ;)

Don't say "Do it". It posts like this that keep putting a wrench in me just saving money for the supercharger. I know the S/C will be a while and I keep thinking of doing gears and full exhaust in the mean time just to do something and help it out. Then I go back to saying no, I will just save the money, and then you go and post something like this!!! :burnout:

You are going about it the correct way. I'm telling you, in the long run, it's cheaper to buy the s/c FIRST. I can't tell you how many people I know who un-did mods when they got their blower, then tried to sell old parts, or just wound up ditching them. Save your money and do it right the first time. I did 5 months worth of research and question asking before I "bit the bullet". Smartest move I've ever made...

I know and that is what you keep telling me. I just "feel" like I need to do something in the meantime. Guess I need to just be patient!!! :D

I have an opportunity to trade a new set of 3.73s for a new set of 4.10s. It looks like that deal will go down.

Cool Marc:) Glad you like your gears. It was the first mod I did to my car within one week of picking it up at the dealership. Two weeks later I went on a 5K trip up north, Midwest and home. The gears were great and my mileage only drop 1 MPG.

Now, you need that S/C....You already have the needle stuck in your arm. Might as well get the shot of big  boost:banana:

I modded my car when I had NO intention to get S/Ced. Even though, I S/C'd the car, I am still happy w/ what I've done.

Gears and a tune area great entry level Mod.

This post makes me want to go with 4.10's myself, even though I am leaning towards taking the S/C plunge in a couple months....what to do, what to do???? :help:

Make the 4.10 Gear Plunge!!! Its not like you have to remove them when you do a S/C.

Get the gears. There not expensive and make a world of difference with your car. And help if and when you S/C :burnout: gears make a notable difference moving our heavy cars.:)

Eric, I sure wish we would have had the time for you to drive mine with gears and S/C at the Cruise to the Woods. Get the gears. You will -not- be sorry.

Cheers!

I did the gears before I got supercharged knowing that I would like it with the blower as well.

I do plan on getting supercharged soon, but I have a few more mods I believe will work well with a blower: Torque converter, Full Kooks exhaust (the headers are getting ceramic coated as we speak), An Xcal2 (dont like the 1725 tuner anymore), and some suspension stuff. Most other things, like my UDPs, are useless with a blower..

Everyone will have their own opinion on what to mod and what not. Tmac says if he could do it all over again, he would have only done a Procharger. To each their own. I love my hobby and I really dont see myself ever not buying something new for my MM. Im never selling it, so Im going all out.

Like I stated above, Night and day with the gears. I just dot back from the Dyno place in Stuart and had a fun drive. This car screams!!! It literally jumps off the line and pulls the entire way. I would have to vote for getting them.

I got a full second off my et's with 4:10's, JLT , PHP spacer, ud pullies and Lidios help.
I doubt I would have done the gears, if I had supercharged first.
But it is fun.
Congradulations!

Guess I need to just be patient!!!No, you don't...

^^^what MarauderTJA and DEFYANT said^^^

There's no reason to hold off doing the gears and/or exhaust...they make just as big an improvement on an S/C car...why deny yourself the improvements in the meantime?

I did the gears and DR exhaust before I ever had any thought of adding a blower...and I have NO regrets...

Marc,

Where is the place you had the gears installed? Pricing?

So your definitely going with an XCAL? Personally I am very disappointed with my standard tune from Diablo Sport. And they have not answered my e-mails about it.

Do the gears...and everything else you can. 7K is a gang of grip to stack and that is a long time being run by cars a moderatly modded Marauder would eat for lunch. Do all you can to keep you smiling until you can really do it big and S/C.

I had them installed at Performance auto in Jupiter 561-746-0100 They charged me 300 to do it. I ended up paying an extra 117$ because my rotors were rusted on and the only way to get them off was to sledge hammer them. The work was done well though and I love the results.

I am going with the Xcal2...Have heard nothing but good about it.

I would love 4.10s. Priced Ford Racing 410.s at my dealer and installed cost with taxes (14% here) would be almost 1,000 CAN (about 810 US) and would void my waranty.

I'd think about getting the parts elsewhere, but there's no shop I know around here (Vancouver BC) that I would trust to install them correctly.

Call Randy Ring and Pinion in Everett, Washington. A couple of the Puget Sound Area guys have used them and are happy. If I decide to go with gears that would be my choice.

Any shop that works on Mustangs should be able to do the work.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll check around for a local Mustang shop. Everett isn't all that far and SWMBO is always up for shopping down south, so ...
Maybe next Spring.

kenny brown quoted me about $1,375 out the door for a 4.10 gear swap and a xcal2 tune. that seemed high to me? not sure?

can someone who is running 4.10's tell me what the engine rpm is at 75mph in fourth gear. i am seriously considering the 4.10's but i drive 1,000+ miles per week and would like to know what engine rpm will be at freeway speeds.

And I thought I drove a lot each week in mine.

I had Kenny Brown install their subframe connectors and strut tower brace on my '93 Camaro Z28 when we were out there for the Indy 500 one year. Was pretty cool checking out all the cars and the promo stuff they had going on at the time.

I am thinking I might do some suspension upgrades for now and wait on gears. So tempting, though...

Marc, if I could do it all over again knowing what I know now, I would still buy another Procharger first (with included tune), definately a TQ converter second, and gears last depending on how much I liked the first 2 options. All three will give you excellent low, mid, and high range performance.

No matter which blower you buy however, the gears and TQ converter will only make it perform better.

I just started my car up tonight and took it for a ride after it sat in the garage for over 2 weeks. It did not take long for a BMW to play cat and mouse with me in traffic and square off at the next red light. I totally killed his ass! Car took off so fast ***** slapping the tires I almost lost control of it and had to back of the gas. When I got home I was still shaking and I am a speed junkie. TQ converter and gears was worth every penny.

How you get to what you like is up to you.

Tim, your car is off the chain!!!!! Your car is the best I have ridden in IMO. It just never stops pulling faster and faster from the moment it launches. Your Marauder is what mine wants to be when it grows up!!!! Maybe next time youll let me drive it!!!!;)

With 4.10's your RPM's will increase by @ 200. You'll get @ 1 MPG less.

cb13:

Going from 3.55 to 4.10 is ~15%...take whatever your RPM is now, and add 15% to it...that'll be your new RPM at that speed with 4.10s. Expect a mileage hit of 1-2 MPG...

If KB is supplying everything, then $1375 isn't TOO bad, but it IS a little high...you're paying for his rep, too...but at least you'll have peace of mind that the job is done right.

Unless you live out here then you don't have much of a choice... I have 4:10's, Stud & girdle kit, pullies, DR's SCT tune, Densos, 180 stat, and PHP air box and the difference between the stock tune and the SCT tune is only noticeable when shifting; plus DR's tune idles a few hundred RPM higher. Still can't spin the tires with either tune. All stock exhaust of course also here.

Maybe when I finally get the TC that is sitting in my garage installed I'll finally be able to see what it feels like to break the tires loose...!! (?)

Wow, we both have similar mods done and I break the tires loose at launch and chirp them going into second....that is all on a SCT 1725 cookie cutter tune. wonder why you cant chirp em?
