Anything I can do to make 'em brighter?
The mate is crabbin': "Why are they blackened...wa wa wa wa etc"
I DO live in the country so no street lights (just the way I like it) so it IS dark out there.
My solution was to back the Silverauder in ,but that was met with some resistance. (Imagine that)
I should consider myself lucky. SHE wanted a big car, I wanted a FAST car, since I bought it three weeks ago that is her only complaint so far (except that I drive it too fast. "This is the WRONG car for you Jim")
Anyway, are there any replacement backup bulbs out there to make the complaining go away?
(I mean the world be safer for my wife of course)
Thanks, Jim

Well, you could replace the lense with crown vic ones and they are clear ones for I suppose a "brighter" view for the Mrs.......hummmm...but I wouldn't do anything else to solve that problem--

Jim, your backup lights use 3156 bulbs. This (http://www.autobarn.net/des20108.html) company sells some really bright backup light bulbs.

Note, I've never used this company or know them. They came up on a google search.

I believe there is a brighter bulb to replace the stock ones. You could also go with LEDs....

Check Sylvania for Silver Star bulbs.

Doesn't Marauder Chick and some others have these bulbs?

Good info, Claude. I find me legal tint and poor light location leave the rear pretty mysterious so I will be trying those halogens out. Thanks for the tip. dennis:beer:

Better get some extras. The brighter bulbs sometimes have shorter life. I tried them and one burned out in about 1-1/2 years, I didn't have a spare so I just went back to the stockers. I believe 3456 are brighter than 3156 and fit the same, as are 3457 compared to 3157.

Is there room to add another bulb(s)? A little work with a dremel tool.... Couple of bucks for sockets & bulbs....

I believe 3456 are brighter than 3156 and fit the same, as are 3457 compared to 3157.

This is exactly how it works.

All bulbs in our cars that have this series of numbers 31xx are available in 34xx (as well as 33xx). The '4' series bulbs are EXACTLY the same fit, only a few candlepower brighter.

EVERY bulb is available brighter (higher candlepower) than OEM.

NAPA has an awesome book they use that will cross reference ANY bulb style you can think of and give EVERY variation of lumens available.

When I blacked out my tail lights on the MM and the Lincoln, I upgraded ALL of the rear bulbs. In the Lincoln, I was able to find back up lights 6 times as bright as the OEM's.

Merely purchasing a brand, such as Silverstar (SYLVANIA) isn't gonna get it done. You need the appropriate part number for the candlepower desired.

Thanks Carfixer... I ordered a pair too... figured it's worth the $21 gamble (with shipping).

I'm not worried about the Marauder though, my F250 has the same bulb, and with an extended cab, tinted sliding window, long bed, and the height of 4wd I always feel like I'm backing up by the sense of touch.

I've tried a few stores and had no luck, so I appreciate the lead!

Lose the wife.
Brighter light bulbs are a lot cheaper than that solution!!

Zack:
Spoken like a true single dude.
After 28 years, she wouldn't just get the Marauder, she'd get it ALL!
As the old blues song goes, it's cheaper to keeper...
