I just bought the car in for service due to problems with the heat. One minute it is blowing out cold air on 90 degrees and then it is burning hot. Some days its fine, other days no heat at all. The dealer checked out the climate control and all of the hoses for blockage and found nothing and they said i had a build up of (hyracarbons?) built up in my radiator as well as fluids being low elsewhere in the car. They said a possible blown head gasket and would let me know tomorrow morn. They said they have never seen anything like this. Anybody else have ideas on what might be going on?:(

Did they check the thermostat?

Any smoke coming from the exhaust? If so, it could be burning water meaning a blown gasket. You may also find water in the oil depending on where it blew. Blown gaskets are pretty uncommon from what I've seen. The piston usually gives up first.

No water out of the exhaust and the thermostat is fine. I the car has been running just fine but about a month ago I started having the heat problem. The service technician said they were having air pockets in the system. Whatever that means I shall find out tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Is your motor "milkshaked"? If it's not, I am willing to bet the head gaskets are fine and it is an unplugged cooling system. Did you recently change the thermostat?

Well the latest update is that it went from a possible head gasket to them replacing the water pump. They said when they rev the engine the heat kicks in and at idle the car loses it and blows out cold air. They said something about the fins being bad on the water pump. Now I just hope they finish up by tonight so I can make the North East meet at Hooters tomorrow.

I expect you'll be bringing it back..The air lock issue
still sounds more viable.or defecive thermostat.
the only time water pump vanes
get damaged is when the bearing goes south.and the puddles
under the car look like lake Erie...Hope this is a warranty..repair..

Yea i bet it's the water pump. I had that problem on my truck, but I didn't get any hot air at all. It just blew air. Hope it's not that bad and a head gasket sounds unlikely.

Could be the OAT Sensor.
Yes, it effects the climate control.
But, it is very possible the impeller on the water pump is not properly pressed onto the pump shaft. I had the same problem on my 66 Caddy.

I could be a quality problem with the water pump as Zack mentioned. It was OK at first and then failed after a while. I didn't think mechanical water pumps ever went bad. ;)

Well the beast is back and the heat is flowing. THANK GOD b/c the temp is dropping over here on Long Island. The service advisor said that the fins in the water pump were bad and it was replaced. The head gasket was fine upon further review. I got the beast back, I got heat, now I can go to Hooters for some boobs...err uhh I mean the wings...yeah the wings..lol.... Thanks for everyones input and help.
