HEllo, everyone. I was wondering if I could pick your brains......I have a 2002 p71 crown vic. I want to install a set of longtube headers on it. Of course there is no application for my panther(unless i pay some ungodly amount to get a set custom made). So I was going to use a set from a gt mustang and fabricate as necessary. I was informed yesterday that the Egr setup was on the drivers side where as the Crown Vic's is on the pass side. But i noticed that some tuners/programmers offer an option to turn off the egr. what are the benefits of this? the downside? any help would be appreciated!!!

Kooks custom headers makes them for our Marauders. I think they
make them for your Vic as well. $780.00 or around that price I believe...

EGR lowers cylinder temperatures, which reduces pinging among other things. So disabling EGR would probably require some fuel map tuning to avoid running lean and the subsequent detonation due to higher cylinder temps.

Don't know where you live, but you need the valve operational if you have an emission program to get your plates. Some states have dyno type testing which runs the valve, idle tests do not.

I disabled the EGR on my last vehicle. No power difference what so ever. Reattached and never touched it again.
