View Full Version : Quarter Mile Killer
DEFYANT
11-15-2005, 10:28 PM
When I came around here, I got into a few pissing contests with several of you "ole timers" regarding mods to the Marauder that resulted in HP, torque and better times at the track.
My standard response was "I am not interested in killing the quarter mile. If I wanted to do that, I'd do it in my Cobra!"
That was about a year ago. The Cobra is history, the Marauder is modified with the best of them and now runs low 12's with room for improvement.
I never though I would become so heavily engaged in making this car move so dam fast. But I did :o . This was a post by my friend Dave on a Yahoo board the Mustang Club of Maryland uses:
Charlie, I still can't believe that land yacht goes that fast! You should have heard the comments when you and Mark were ripping off those 12 second times. Everyone was stunned.
(This was about the event detailed in the Defyant Marauder at the track - Round 3 (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=22565) thread)
Comments like this make me ":D " -again.
I guess I owe several of you an apology. You know who you are. Since I have become interested in drag racing this very unusual car, it seems the right thing to do.
Anyway, thanks again.

Congrats on your low 12's Marauder.
Better than that.....congrats on your post. You are becoming wise beyond your years grasshopper. A lot of the older guys on this board cut their teeth on the original muscle cars. My hat is off to them as well. :banana2:

Man, I know exactly what you are saying. :D I have a 01 Supercharged GT Mustang that I built up ($22K in mods) for show and the track. Have not wanted to take it to the track because of the fear of going crazy and getting addicted. Previous to the 01 GT I had an 93 Cobra Mustang that I took from stock all the way to the Renegade class. That car ran 11.2's and could not even compete. 8 point cage etc, etc etc. Bought the 01 GT, went a little crazy, but vowed not to take it to the track.. Keep it a nice, fast, fun street car.
Then I bought the Marauder last July and within 2 weeks, I had 4.10's, then got a tuner and a CAI. Just to make it a little more street worthy mind you. Took it to the NMRA Spring Shootout in March for the car show. Got first place in the big Ford class. Pretty cool. Then I figured, ah what the hell, I wonder how the car would run. 14.5 ET. Bad move. Drag Race Addiction..Stuck the needle in my arm....Modification city next stop... It was all over. Got the S/C, stock tires 13.3 and have not stopped since the car ran 12.3 last month in October. Had a blast at SSHS5 at Atlanta. Now I am working on high 11's. Hopefully this coming Sunday.
But you know what, I love it. Why,, there are 1000's of Mustangs and just a few Marauders that run 12's. It blows their minds (never mind Vette owners). It has been the most fun I have had with a car in years. Comfort, tons of room, great looks, an awesome and "unique ride" as well as being faster than most cars on the street. For a mere $8K in additional money I have spent is worth every penny. (My buddy just spent $15K on a new outboard for a boat he uses, maybe once a month). I drive my car when I am home (now in MD)every day...Do the math.... What more could you possibly ask for...I will keep this car until I die....Now I am thinking, I will sell my Mustang and build a super street forged motor...The Marauder is the best of both worlds and gets far more attention, comments and respect than any car I have ever owned....
You gotta love this car. And the people I have met since I have bought the Marauder are just as great.

:coolman: Great thread guys! You all only inspire me to start the mods and keep on until I get this sled to the track and start making some time! This is definitely a great car and as stated above...I'll keep it until I'm gone!

To be stealth on the streets, on the net, and then .... bang, on the track. WTF is that ?!!
I am also happy to just having a good time in respect with each other opinion and/or decision in their mods. To have a few exchange with others help us make the right decisions and avoid (most) of the time, the mistakes.
This car is so underestimated, its always nice to set back the needles at their own place !!

I've said it time and again...'Resistance to moding is futile, you will be assimilated.'

You've got a fine Marauder there Charlie and I hear what you're saying.
If someone would have told me two years ago that I was going to buy a limited production luxury car, modify the hell out of it and travel thousands of miles just to meet other owners and to drag race the snot out of it I would have told them they were nuts. That just wasn't me at all.
I've never done anything like this before and I don't know if I'll ever get to enjoy a car like this again so I'm out to make the best memories I can. The girls are growing up fast and my priorities will have to change very soon so this is an opportunity I don't want to let get by.
Enjoy it while you are able to my friend. Here's to a unique and badass quarter-mile killer!

As we use to say in Boston, :bows: wicked cool time slip:D. It is just unreal how hard it is to lower the time slip a mere 3 tenths:bigcry: . Most people don't understand. I just want 3 tenths of a second faster, but they have NO IDEA how far away that can be:depress:. They look at you and shake their heads:shake:. They just don't know what they are missing.

I remember saying I'll never be fast so I might as wel just start making it look fast. Then after testdriving a milion cars(Ok maybe not exactly a million) I came across a 96 impalla ss and a 03 mm test drove them both and fell in love with the mm. Not even a week later I got the alarm and remote start and 2 sets of wheel locks. at about a week I made a SRI and week 3 I was ordering a lidio tuned Xcal2! I serously said no to hids cause they would cost as much as functional perfomance mods! Sad thing is the MM gets better MPG and range than my 6! Defyant hopefully we can meet up and you can convince me 2 tons can move really fast when contens are under pressure ;)
