Ok this is going to really sound bad and probably ruin my reputation, but I don't care a question is a question. My Marauder will have 90,000 miles this week and I'm thinking as to what to do with it. I want to put a blower on it, but everyone said I should have done it at 20,000 miles. I have come across a very nice 2004 Dodge Ram SRT 10 with 1,000 miles for 36K asking. Now I know it runs as fast or very close to a blown Marauder without anything else such as gears, slicks or exhaust. ya know low 13's. I have researched this truck for the past few days and looks like they very from 13.7 to 13.12 in the 1/4 mile stock. Now a blower (for the Ram) is around just as much as a Marauder give a grand or so. So what seems like the best bet here? Blow the Marauder when it hit's 100,000 miles and risk something breaking or get this practically new truck that runs around just as fast as a blown Marauder stock? I don't know what I would rather do at this point. I love the Marauder and I probably won't ditch it, infact I'll probably slap myself in the head tomorrow saying "what was I thinking?" Anyway please state your opinion. Thank you.

V10's are nice but I'd rather be bl.....(you know the rest)

Why not search for a lower mile Marauder, then add a blower and sell your current Marauder....that will be less expensive than the truck. You're then insuring only one vehicle. In fact, buy Lidio's Marauder!!

Putting a 90k on a motor in 3 years sounds like a lot of highway miles to me. How well maintained is it?

Motorhead350

Very well maintained. Not a thing has gone wrong with, but I know my brakes are shot. It has had it's tranny fluid and rear end fluid changed when it needed it. Basically i see no risk in putting a blower on this car sense it all highway and the fluids were always changed when needed.

Heck, I'd put a blower on it with a big 'ol pacifier pulley at 5-6 psi, set conservative shift points and rev limit and go have some fun with it. You'd be amazed how much these cars change attitude with just a little bit of positive pressure.

Just keep in mind that a new motor is inevitable, esp. when dealing with forced induction. An engine can blow at 9k just as easy as one with 90k on it. I figure its all about the tune and a lot about self control.

If you wanted a fast Truck go with a Lightning. They are cheaper to mod and will probably get better gas mileage. Looks better and can be had for a lot less than the Ram. Also the L has a bit more function as a truck then the Ram. But thats just me.

I think I'll just say screw it, the Marauder is the best and I'll put the blower on mine come spring. After all I heard it's quite easy to make one run 11 seconds. Yes I know it takes more then a blower. :D

Now it's an 11 sec Marauder. OK then... maybe you'll need that new motor much sooner than eventually, lol. Cobra shortblock anyone?

Well I do have an easy solution as I posted in another form. I got a buddy that had his overhauled in Flordia about a year ago and ran an 11.97 without slicks. Like I said he is not a memeber on here and infact hates the car. Sargentmac knows who i'm talking about. Anyway he wanted to drop a V10 in it so I asked him if he wanted to trade my 90,000 mile Marauder for his and I'll give him a good bundle on top of it. For what I want and what he wants trading would be perfect, but still I wanna be able to say I had "this" car sense I was 16 and what not so I really don't wanna lose the one I had for over 3 years. Yea I'm weird I know. ;)

Just mod the one you've got. You can do it gradually instead of dropping a big chunk of change all at once. The SRT10 is awesome but likely gets single digit fuel mileage.

And 11's in any MM aren't as easy as it sounds.

I had this debate introspectively over RoadPig 1 ... she now has 57k almost 58k mile on her ... I am still putting a DR VorTech air to water on her .... no regrets, no harm or foul ... thats why I have the car ... " Resistance to Modding is Futile " ....

I have like 32K on mine and she runs. The viper I heard has an even worse issue with the backend being too light like the MM has at times. I like the Ram over the lightning but I could never pay that much for a P/U that I couldn't use as P/U truck At that price I'd be afraid to even but a gym bag in the bed and scratching the paint. I say swap out cars or engine like the others said. Glad to see I'm not the only early 20's person owning a MM :)

You might consider a Dodge Charger SRT-8, 425 hp and not to bad

looking, I think they are around the same price? Anyway good luck

in what ever you choose.

Tough choice - hotrod sedan or hotrod pickup truck. Depends on your personal preference. Me, I would choose the Marauder over the truck. Of course, I am pretty twisted.

i read some of the posts on here and thought i'd make a comment. if you're looking for a truck, get a lightning.
1. its faster stock in the 1/4 than the srt-10
2. with less than $1k in mods, the lightning will be in the 12's
3. you can actually use it as a truck to haul and tow, the srt-10 is not capable of towing anything and try loading the bed with that spoiler
4. and best of all, it costs less

however, if you don't care about using it for a truck, carrying other people, or trying to manually shift through your gears with that long throw shifter, than by all means, get the srt-10.

As someone who has owned a truck in the past, has always liked the Lightning, and now owns a Marauder that will probably end up with high miles, I plan on doing all I can to take care of the car and if possible put a blower on it sooner than later. Then I will look at doing a complete motor rebuild and something to handle some more boost.

I am a slightly above average size individual that likes a bigger, comfortable ride. I also have a wife and 2 kids and like having the room or the option of taking more than 1 person in the car with me if need be.

Only reason I, personally, would get a truck again is to use for towing since we want a boat. Then again, the wife wants to trade her Five Hundred off for a full size truck or SUV when the Five Hundred is paid off. She misses her SUV. But I digress...

I'm 21, I count too! At least I think I do! Anyway 90k miles in 3 years? That's twice the average amount of miles per year for most Americans. The Average is 15,000 miles of course. My car has 38k. I think some of the wiring might be a little be faulty or may of been bad gas. It's stalled out on me once or twice when I was backing out. Come to think of it, there is a Marauder guy here who owns a Marauder and a Lightenning. He'll probably chime in on this topic soon enough.

*edit, nevermind, that dude responded a few post before this one.

The Marauder engine is easily capable of 400,000 + miles when properly maintained.
As far as Im concerned with your 90,000 miles, its just breaking in.
Install the blower and dont worry about it.

The SRT-10 has HORRIBLE mileage, and requires premium, iirc. Now that premium is getting near $2.00 a gallon, it's not so painful, but the inconvenience of having to fill up that friggin truck so frequently... yeesh.

Fordnut is absolutely right.

Man, owned a Marauder at 16...

Taste and style. What are we going for here?

The visual theme to a truck is always gonna be - REDNECK FARMER!

Mustang Cobra - SINGLE , SECRET AGENT , ROGUE DETECTIVE

Marauder - ESTABLISHMENT , AFFLUENT , LEADER OF MEN

That's how I see it.

I say screw the SRT-10. I am not impressed with them at all. I cant count how many I waxed when I had my Lightning and it was stock except for exhaust. 90k in 3 years is nothing, I out 100K on my lightning in that time. I say keep the Merc and throw a blower on it. If you were looking at a 36K a new motor shouldnt be a big deal if your lets go.

I'm with Zack......

The engines in our cars are capable of incedibly long lives and if it blows.....rebuild it and move on!!! You'll come out far better financially and command more respect with a fast 4-Door than with a truck!!:bows:

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!!:cool4:

Always. You can have fun with a new blower on the current engine while you plan on a built engine. It was only $5k to r&r another original engine when I blew my motor at the track. (my fault not the cars) You can be planning for your built motor while you enjoy the current one, and still no monthly payments.

And you can continue to hang with this great bunch of people!

Simple... if you can afford a 36K truck... then use the money to build a new motor for your MM. Build the bottom end to really handle a blower.... pick the blower of your choice... and have a QUICK MM.

Lots of guys on the board here have redone the internals....

OR... if you can afford a 36k truck... go get Lidio's MM and have a super MM !
