OK, with the changes in the gallery, was wondering if someone can post pictures of the following:

1) Pictures of "real" gauges in the stock location in front of the shifter
2) Added 3rd gauge where the cigarette lighter is (and what gauge you put there)
3) A-Pillar 2-gauge pods and what gauges you put in
4) Night pictures of any of the following with the lights on
5) Also, with the pics, if you could list what gauges you went with

I am looking for some pictures and ideas on what the gauges will look like. Eventually planning (or thinking) of doing boost and fuel pressure in the A-pillar pod and real, matching oil pressure and volt in the stock locations and add a tranny temp gauge - if it can be mounted looking as good as stock. And then I would like a setup that is close to what the factory instrument cluster looks like during the day and at night with the lights on. Yes, I know, I have no need for the boost gauge right now, but will in the future. Just trying to plan ahead and figure out which ones I want...

Thanks for your time and patience...

Here's a A pillar single gauge pod with a boost gauge.

I'll work on shots of the other "real" gauges since I need to do that anyway.

How does the gauge face match during the day and at night? That is the Ultra-Lite setup, right?

How does the gauge face match during the day and at night? That is the Ultra-Lite setup, right?Yes, Ultra-Lite. The gauges did not match until RF got the OEM booties (light blue) direct from Autometer. It was really bothersome, trying all the different booties available through AutoZone, and none were the right color to match OEM. Now they all match!! We have the real OP gauge and added the tranny temp in place of the cig lighter.

Any pictures of the setup?

It was really bothersome, trying all the different booties available through AutoZone, and none were the right color to match OEM.Just to clarify, the booties purchased through AZ were genuine AutoMeter booties, but AutoMeter only make 4 colours available retail. They actually have more than that, but the rest are used only by their OEM division. Silver-tongued devil that I am, I managed to wheedle a couple of Ford OEM-colour booties from them... :)

Eric, the aftermarket gauges are an *almost* identical match to the OEM ones during the day. At night, they're a bit different as the OEM gauges are back-lit, while the aftermarket ones have perimeter lighting. I actually find the aftermarket versions more legible at night than the OEMs...

So, are the booties still available or out of luck on that?

I put my boost gauge where the volt gauge went. I didn't like that the oil gauge and boost gauge didn't match so I went with the autometer lunar gauges for both.

I drilled out the cigarette lighter and put a real oil pressure gauge.

I will get a night shot this weekend. I went with the blue-green booties on the bulbs.

Did you do anything to angle the mount of the new oil pressure gauge or is it pretty much in there straight? Any pictures from the passenger side?

AutoMeter sells angle rings (P/N 2234) so the third gauge can be made to face the same direction as the other two...they work great and are so close to the gauge panel colour that they don't even need painting.

As for the booties, I have a couple extra (and an angle ring) I can spare...PM me with your mailing address.

I want to relocate my cigarette lighter to passenger side of the pod. I couldn't figure out how to get it out without breaking it.

I know several people here have done it, care to shead on any light on this for me? ..pleeeeeease. :D

Down inside the lighter socket, the button that makes contact with the heater element is actually a small Torx screw...I forget the size. Just unscrew that and the whole socket assembly kinda falls apart.

Eric, there is a movie on my web site of the Auto Meter Nexus gauges at night. Way cool stuff if you got the scratch!

Those are SWEET!!!! Where did you get them from? Summit, Jegs, somewhere else? Is the install any harder than a Ultra-Lite or not?

Eric,

I got them through Summit. They are the standard size and each sensor was easily mounted. All the wires run back to a central computer that I've placed behind the lower gauge pod. If you look at my web site at the ZEX install, you'll see the NOS and Fuel Pressure sending units as an example.

Cheers!

John

Here is a night picture. Sorry it is blurry :( You can see the "color" difference. I have the gauge that came with the Trilogy kit and aftermarket real Autometer volt and op gauges. I can not remember what booties I have on. I suppose I should get all the same or I will not get my 100 concours score in the car show:bigcry:

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/3/1/0/2/nightgauge.jpg

As RF said you need a trim ring to get the gauge pointing straight. I sanded the trim ring to amount half thickness to get the alignment close.

Petrograde, I did not know about the Torx screw either and destroyed my lighter during removal.

I have the 2" diameter Forstner (?) bit if anyone want to use to drill out the hole for the new gauge. PM me your address and we can start it routing around MM.net :coolman:

Do you have the bulb booties on the two on the right? They seem a bit brite-white..

So, all 3 gauges there are aftermarket, non-OEM gauges. And 2 of the 3 have different (or no booties) compared to the one on the left? Is the one on the left the OEM type bootie?

Excuse the camera shake....not easy at night with prolonged exposures....

All OEM booties. All are aftermarket gauges.

From Driver's side...angle bracket on tranny temp gauge that replaced the cig lighter.

In the third pic, the angle ring on the Trans Temp gauge looks much darker than in real life...it's the shiny textured surface of the gauge pod reflecting the flash that makes it look different...they're almost identical in better light.

But I still like my gauges better.

Thanks for the pictures. It is appreciated.

They show two readouts per gauge, so they're like having 4 gauges. Very legible too.

Or, you could consider regular digitals. These are legible, accurate, look cool, and very entertaining...
