Has anyone come up with a good method of protecting the rear seat when carrying dogs in their Marauder? I bought a cover from one of the pet supply houses but it was worthless.

By the way, if your only response to this question is "don't put dogs in the car," don't bother responding. That is not an option.

Thanks.

How dig are the dogs? If Bigger then Beagals, I would look for some heavy canvas and "slipcover" the back seats. If its smaller dogs then just a good seat cover.

How about the trunk or a roof rack.
You may need a trailer hitch, to pull a doggie trailer !

Seriously, get a dog carrier to put the dog in. Put the dog carrier (incl. dog) on a blanket in back seat and secure carrier with seatbelt.

I had to do this with our cat. Worked good.

Good luck.

Don't put dogs in the car man...

Oh! Sorry...

They also have doggie seat belts at the pet store. Another option to consider.

Hope you've kept his/her claws trimmed well- they'll do a number on your leather seats! Put plenty of padding between the paws and the seats. :bigcry:

Two Golden Retreivers, 70 and 80 pounds each. They rode around for 6 years in the back seat (leather) of my wife's Mazda Millenia. We covered the seat in blankets and towels and cleaned it regularly. We were hoping to find something better.

To the posters with useful comments, thanks. To the rest, well .......

Don't worry about responding. I'll find something myself.

Lighten up, boys. I'm a dog lover and that's why I have a Suburban, as well with a "Kennel Carrier" to appropriately transport an animal.

Frankly, to transport an animal, loose in a vehicle is unsafe and irresponsible. I wouldn't do that, just like I would never have my daughters in a car not in a carseat or seat belt.

well , well , well,,--lets see----TAF--your comments were funny--were do you get those quotes so quick--man --that was real good-!! and kinda appropriately funny on April Fools Day and all--but like always --you saved grace with all by explaining things--but we all know you were just kidding----those of us who know one another---it takes time for the others not to speak so quickly before realizing who is senior and and is realy cool with the attitiude on what matters--like you say TAF--lighten up folks---we like to have fun while we answer your concerns----the same as we would if we were at a party discussing the same things---it breaks the ice so to speak for the newcomers---anyway--
not sure what the best answer is --depends on how you care fro your car---I put alot of old beds sheet covers , the kind that is thick material but wil still tuck in the and around the seats on
the back seats and tuck them in all over ..works real well.... or double up on several thin ones --what ever you have ===and don't forget to get the nails trimed before coming back ( if going to the dr)...another .02C worth---

I have a 125 lb. Great Pyrenees that does NOT get to ride in my MM. However, if he DID have to ride in same, I would remove the back seat cushion entirely, so that his nails would not tear the (very) expensive leather surface. Also, I would restrain him with a doggie seatbelt (mentioned here by others) so that he would not take my head off as he sails through the windshield in an emergency stop. That's just me, however; you may prefer ripped seats and worse.

It was funny---it was a movie quote ---a movie--a funny movie--not real life...

I like Beadhead's idea, you can easily remove the back seat bottom, then put down a blanket or even a doggie bed. Just push the seat bottom back, lift up and out.
