Well, it looks like the other thread was getting ready to take a dump, so I decided to seek higher ground and start another thread.
Bowman9 posted this in part:
As we all know nobody makes hoods for our cars, but we could make our own, using a junkyard crown vic hood and some fiberglass.
That really got me thinking. Has anyone ever cross-referenced the part numbers from the hood?
If they are a direct swap, save for perhaps an under hood light or something, I could try to locate a used one cheaper. Also, I might find one closer to whoever I hand this project off to, and save on some shipping (plus I would spare my stock piece from the knife/torch/grinding wheel).
So guys, can anyone help me out and double check the interchange on the part numbers?
Thanks!

I looked at this two years ago. New OEM hoods from Ford are 500 bucks, 368 to 331. from on-line parts houses. Hard to say if these are remanfactured, imported, or, bone yard stock. Here's a link.

I think if you stopped by any decent sized bone yard, cash and carry may be as low as 100 bucks. There are a lot of hoods out there.

I am also debating making the entire hood out of 'glass to save a pound or two. But, I may need a stocker as a "plug" for molding the new hood.

Marty, Give me a call tonight about this. There may be something on the way in terms of a fiberglass hood for the Marauder.

OOH OOH!!! Keep us updated...
I bought a GM hood from a local junk yard for $40.00 to use for my 'custom hood' project, but I may put this on HOLD until I hear a little more about a possible fiberglass hood.
I like the idea of shaving some weight off the front end...I actually bought TWO hoods from the junk yard...
the first one that I bought was off a mid 90s GM and was ALUMINUM!....BUT it was the wrong style. (center section of hood was lower rather than raised...:( )
The Aluminum hood was incredibly light and I looked like a muscleman walking around the junk yard, carrying the hood with one arm!
P.S. Anyone want a mid 90s GM ALUMINUM hood cheap??

Joe, I cant speak more to it, other than it may be a possiblity and it was being investigated. When I hear more, or something solid, I will post it up.

The best of luck with the project, make sure to take plenty of pics of the process so we can all learn from it.
Can't wait to see the results.

Seriously, how easy would it be to find a hood from an 03 Crown Vic , then add your own custom inlets to it and have body shop make it for you. Most of the cost would be in the labor. I really like the gto style twin scoop that some silver marauder has.

This was my thinking when I bought a junkyard GM hood and some aftermarket scoops...My problem now is finding a good body shop who knows what they are doing.:(
Most just want to cut some holes and 'BONDO' the scoops into the hood...

Actually, adhesives (not bondo) have come a long way and are pretty reliable. I have been told Jaguar uses an adhesive to bond the fire wall to the body. I'm not sure which vehicle. They're not my cup of tea though. I prefer welding. I don't have that option on my Cobra since the hood is some form of composite.

I thought there was a one year police application Crown Vic aluminum hood that fit our MM's. (1998?)

IIRC the 1998 P71 ( Crown Victoria - Police ) had an aluminum hood ( and trunk lid ). *Maybe other early late-model years as well (?????).
The look-and-fit is an exact match.

I'm 100% sure on the trunk lid ( know someone who purchased a used 1998 CVPI ).
However, the parts lists that I have do not note two part #s. Probably meaning ( which I strongly believe ) that they're not available from FoMoCo; the quest for the holy hood / trunk lid would have to be scouring salvage yards. These may be unobtainium parts.
*Have often wondered what the weight savings would be.

I was just over on www.cervinis.com, they still do not offer a hood for application, but they do now offer lift-off hoods for about $225.00.
So if you were thinking of cutting up a cervini mustang or F150 hood and bonding it to your marauder hood the price just got cheaper.
I just thought I would share the information.

Are the hoods on MM/CV steel or aluminum? The truck hoods are aluminum. I put a fiberglass hood on my truck that is about 12# heavier than the factory hood. I liked the cobra cowl hood well enough to give up the weight difference.

A non-functional 'power-bulge' doesn't do it for me. We need an automotive artiste with talent equal to Chip Foose to come up with a unique, functional, and classy design. I don't care for Foose's style but do appreciate his talent. I was thinking we need someone like the late, great Larry Shinoda. May he rest in peace.

The picture is just for ideas. Be it functional or not makes little difference. You can always make something functional. ;)

As was mentioned, cowl induction may not be as effective with our (relatively) raked windshield design. Cold air induction may require wind-tunnel data and testing. Design and the idea that form follows function are often in conflict. If you were a young man and budding gearhead like me back in 1969, you may have been as awe-struck as I was when you saw your first yellow Boss 302 Mustang with black stripes, black rear window louvers, a functional black rear spoiler, AND a flat black shaker hood scoop. It was real innovation coupled with outstanding design and function in a total performance package. Our MM was a near miss in so many ways and it is really a shame. Time will tell but I doubt the MM will ever approach the (instant) classic 69/70 Mustang fastback. I'm sure many Shivvy owners were converted from Camaro's in 1969 and '70 to the Mustang. A new facia and hood with integrated ram-air would be groovy for us.

I just weighed them:
OEM Steel Marauder hood = 58 LBS
Aluminum 96 Grand Marquis hood = 31 LBS
Unfortunately, the 96 GM hood is the wrong style for our Marauders...:o (see my earlier post)
Boy would it be nice to drop 27 LBS off the front end, then move the battery to the trunk....:hmmm:
