Last weekend on the way up to Wisconsin there were some flurries and I was caught in the middle of it with a tire that should never see snow :shake:

In case ya'll are curious, here is what the tread looks like with some snow:

On the plus side, the trip gave me an excellent backdrop:

Props go to the city of Elkhorn, WI for their excellent decorations. The car was a handful getting to wisconsin, I reached a top speed of 45 MPH and the unplowed exit ramp was the highlight. Even the parking space above posed a challenge since it slants downhill. The steelies and snow tires are on now, I guess I should have placed my order one week earlier.

When the first snow hit a few weeks ago I still had the KDW2s on. I thought "how bad can they be in snow" and decided to drive in to work with them. When I hit the brakes at the end of the driveway and didn't stop, I saw the error in my thinking. I proceeded directly back into the garage and put the snow tires on.

Although the KDWS are not great the snow, they are much better than the KDW2.

A friend of mine had the KDWS' on his Impala SS and did fine. Don't the size off hand but I'm sure the difference in size has something to do with it.

As I look out my window, all I see is ice and snow falling. I've only had my "new" '03 for about 16 days now, and I feel bad for having to hide it away in the barn. ( for some reason, I can't reference this car as a "she") Not to mention the grief I'm getting from the Queen. But looking at those tires, and getting caught in a snowstorm, the first week i got this car, makes me think that this is the best place for the car at this time. I'll just suffer until spring.

The KDWS have been doing fine for me in the snow... other than getting run off the road by a stupid truck!!!! But my road car before this was a 96 cougar, no abs no lsd nothin. So for me the MM is a treat in the slippery stuff

I did the same. In late 2003 I got caught in our first snow with the Marauder, and with barely any snow cover I could tell the car had a horrible time handling traction in the rear. This is a shot taken moments after I parked it that evening. It was decided that I'd keep the Civic for one more winter and park the Marauder.

By late 2004 I was properly equipped with the tire / wheel package, and the winter of 2004-2005 was a breeze.

You can still see the snow melting on the warm hood. All this to say that THIS little quantity of snow made me VERY nervous about getting the car home in one piece, that's how relatively bad the stock KDWS's are in deep snow.

True, as long as you don't mind possibly rebuilding your house every

year... :(

KDW2s in the snow...What were you expecting?

"KDW2" means "dry, wet, version 2". Great tires on dry surfaces, and improved traction while driving through standing water, so, great rain/water tire too. Excellent tires for Spring, Summer, and Fall conditions around the upper Midwest, likewise perfect tires for other climates, like Florida, and Texas. But..."KDW2" in Chicagoland, and after Thanksgiving...What were you expecting?

"KDWS" means "dry, wet, and snow". The original OEM "KDWS" tires were a good place to start with the first release of the MM. I'm willing to bet the designers sat back and watched the first year on a lot of stuff, just not tires. But, the OEM "KDWS" tires proved to be disappointing in wear and tear numbers, once thing got hot and sticky. Before that, and after that "first summer", the KDWS did okay. Not the best, not the end-all answer, but they did okay.

Now you want to come back here and express your disappointment over the KDW2 tire. C'Mon, Jason...That tire isn't an all-season tire, and you never should have tried to navigate any accumulation of snow with the KDW2 on the back end. Good Lord...What's on the front? Plowing fresh snow too?

Give a fair estimation of the tire's capacity, or, keep it to yourself, K? Don't start crap about KDW2 in snow, the tire was never meant to see snow!

BTW..."Good packing" in Elkhorn, right?

Where did I express my dissapointment in the KDW2 tire compared to my expectations? It was obvious, I hope to everyone, that I was caught in the snow on my way headed north. Did anyone expect me to call Ray and say "WORK FASTER, PLEASE?" And I quote:

"Last weekend on the way up to Wisconsin there were some flurries and I was caught in the middle of it with a tire that should never see snow"

I must have missed the part where I gave my editorial review of this tire's ability in the snow along with the comparison of my expectations. I even admitted this tire should never see snow, but thank you for telling me that too. Does it look like the tread was even considered for a flake of snow? I didn't think so either. There weren't a whole lot of options for me along route 12. Perhaps I neglected to add a smiley or two in my post to make this seem humorous. Let me correct it..

I think its funny that I got hit with snow on the way up to Wisconsin with these tires. I was most certainly worried about my car. This thread wasn't to call out the short comings of the KDW2 tire in snow, but rather, a silly post for anyone with the remote curiousity of hearing about or seeing this tire in the snow. It is absolutely ridiculous that ANYONE would use this tire in the snow. It is NOT a snow tire. KDW2 does not have SNOW written anywhere on it. My sincere apoligies goes out to all the men, woman, and families together I may have hurt for my assumption that this thread would be taken lightheartedly. My gratification goes out to SergntMac for making this clear to me.

Het RR/ Suki, my other car is a '98 make that '89. Thunderbird, rear wheel drive, and this car is a bear in the snow, and salt! around these parts, where we sit on top of a salt mine, we get at least 3 months of wretched snow on the roads every winter. Sometimes, there may be more salt than snow on the roads! I am going to park this beast and wait until some heavy rains in the spring( to wash away the salt)before I take the Batmobile out. I'll still go out and look at this beauty every day!

So I guess I'm really nuts for driving on KDW2's in front and bald Pirrelli's on the rear. Talk about scary - I'm headed in today to get the KDWS's better than nothing

When I also have a F250 4x4 SUPERDUTY and an AWD Mariner, the MM stays warm hibernating in the garage when it snows here in Omaha.

Gotta watch the limited slip if you are not used to em in the snow. Got my original KDWS on. Rear centers are getting worn. Kicking myself for not getting new rears for the winter.
