View Full Version : Connection between OEM Radio and CD Changer?

Hello:
I just purchased an OEM CD Changer from another member. He's supplying the Changer, mounting bracket and carpet trim.
I never had a factory CD Changer, therefore I'll need to run some wiring. I did some searches, but come up empty.
1) Can anyone tell me, if an aftermarket (or factory) wiring harness is available to connect my OEM radio the my OEM CD Changer?
2) If no harness is available, what connectors do I have to get, what's the wiring schematic, and how many wires do I need to run?
3) Could anyone supply me with a picture of their factory installed CD Changer (mounting and location), so that I can put mine in the same spot in the trunk.
Thanks for any help. It is as always greatly appreciated.

Is there a chance that the wiring is already present but hidden? This is the case on my WS6, and I will be tracking down a used changer sometime this winter, now that I've purchased all the brackets necessary.

A harness is available through any company that deals with factory radio repairs and installations of factory aftermarket cd changers. I picked a harness up for another member that got one used. You have to specify whether or not you have a 300A or 300B MM. The radio connections are different. We found that out the hard way.
Just my .02 and then some.

I have a 300A. Any chance you can locate another used one, or get me the part# for the "Dealer Installed" CD Changer wiring. I would expect something like that is available, unless the "Dealer Installed" option means they take it an local installer and have it custom wiring done.
TIA !

The harness is also available from the dealer. Check with Ray The Dealer, a supporting vendor of this site.

That's the first thing I did. I haven't heard from him, and figured I better look for alternatives some of the other members may know about.
Thanks,
Peter

Not to derail, but I found a guy that sells factory radios and helped me find a rare factory CD for my Cobra in which I wanted the stock look to be maintained but wanted a CD changer.
I can look for the information at home if someone really wants it.

Try this site. They sell factory Ford head units and CD changers, refurbished and new. If you look, you'll see they sell both the Marauder Audiophile head unit and the CD changer. I didn't specifically see the data cable, but I'm sure if you call or email them, they can help you.

Also note they sell XM direct kits for Ford radios.

Hey:
Thanks for the PM. I called them and they referred me to another place that can do sales over the phone. I ordered a 16' T-Harness and Radio removal tools. They should arrive tomorrow.
They guy was very helpful and the entire deal, including shipping UPS RED, only cost me $47. I'll post info, including part#'s, once everything arrives.
For now I need some pic's of where the CD Changer is installed from the factory. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter

Hey Peter,
When you get the bracket it will want to mount in the drivers side corner of the trunk. You will need to remove the plastic trim from the lip of the trunk and pull back liner material. There are two mounting points on the rear and one on the side. You will also need to slit the liner to allow the bracket to go through and for the harness. If you don't get a pic of another 03 I can send you one of my 04. I'm sure they are the same.

Well.
I finally got started today on my little project. Unfortunately, I didn't work out. The wiring harness I ordered doesn't fit the OEM connector behind the kick panel. I had checked the other end earlier and it worked in the Changer.
I guess, I'll have to make some more phone calls, trying to get the proper connector. Otherwise it looks pretty easy and straight forward. Rear seat, door sills, and carpet in trunk come out easy. Guess I had enough practice by now.
Does anyone have an exact part number for the harness a dealer uses to hook up the factory CD changer? This can't be that unusual, many places do this.
Thanks again for all the help I received so far!

Looks like I'm talking to myself.
Finally got the right part number (Thanks, Jim - vegasmarauder) and ordered it from Ray (TheDealer) :D
I have two other "aftermarket" wiring harness, which I won't use, since I like to maintain the "factory" wiring.
I'll get all the part#'s and different options together once I got it all done.
The CD changer is mounted. "Only" need to run the new harness.
Thanks to all for your help!

Was it this part? Clicking on the vehicle applications on the page shows 2004 Marauder, but also 2003 Grand Marquis, Town Car, Crown Vic. Radios and more is a great site for finding OEM radios and accessories. I'm not affiliated with them.

No that is not the correct harness. The one in the picture on that website plugs in the back of the radio. It is really a jumper wire between the factory car harness radio plug and the radio. MM's have all the CDDJ wiring in place from the radio head to the left kick panel wether they have the CDDJ player or not. It's the rear body harness that is different between the CDDJ (rear CD player) and non-CDDJ car. In most non MM aplications there is no wiring at all from the head unit to the kick panel, so you need that one pictured. Think of it as the dealer add-on CDDJ harness. For some of us purists who have to do it only the factory way, you order the factory replacement harness service part as if your car already had a CDDJ changer in it and you needed a new wiring harness. Neccessitates taking the left half of the car apart to put in though. When the tech section gets all up and running, maybe they can find some posts I did in 2003 covering some of this and all the part numbers...
