I was there Saturday the 3rd and ran twice. No other Marauder was running however Gregg was there with his vortech car. He wasn't running it though and only watched from the grandstands. To be honest, I didn't even know he'd be there he just happened to find me all the way at the end of the line to get to the staging lanes. Anyway, I had one losss and one victory. First time I went I was against a stock Neon SRT4. The guy had an intake as his only mod, I asked him afterwards. Since this was my first time ever doing the 1/4 mile I was a bit unsure when to react. A veteran racer who had this really fast EVO VII gave me some tips. He said to to hit it when the third yellow comes on. When we were staging I had to wait for an accident to clear up. Some guys from around the area kept pestering me about my car. One guy bet me $20 to race his minivan. It almost went to $40 but, there was just something I didn't trust about how he was willing to raise the bet so quickly so we left it at $20. Anyway, they kept begging me to do a burnout so after the guy ahead of me got the green, I did a nice shortie burnout. I held the brakes for a few seconds, left a nice small trail of black tire marks. So anyway, remembering what the guy with the EVO VII told me, I took his advice and ended up with a reaciton time of 0.443 roughly but the guy in the Neon got 0.072.
I did have him at the 60 ft but it was all him from there out. He had me by about four car lengths in the end. He ran a 14.3 and the track timer screwed up on my run and didn't give me a 1/4 time! Only reaction, 60 foot and 330 ft :fire:! I was pissed. I decided to hang around in the grandstands for an hour to watch how the other guys were doing. The guy that bet me $20 to race against his van. I went back there to see if he was still good for the but he wasn't there, he was in his car on line to race. He eventually did show up and he told me he actually didn't have his van with him. Turns out it was an old Dodge van with a turbo slant six. He claims it runs 13.6 which is way faster than my car but I'll have to take his word for it. Eventually, Gregg found me again, we had a quick chat, he said I did a good run but the time didn't show. Then we both talked for half an hour and he went home.
About a half hour after Gregg left, I decided to give it one last try. I had a little trouble finding the start of the line so I ended up going down the wrong road that was an exit from the track to the parking lot. I realized this and turned around and got to where I should be. You'd be surpised how many people like Marauders btw. There was a guy in another Neon SRT4 that came up to me and had an assortment of questions. He thought the cars came with the supercharged Cobra motor and I gave him a lecture about how the cars are 305 stock and what not. He he liked my car but he said his Neon has a lot of mods. Said it would run mid 12s so I told him I don't want to go against him. I ended up going against a project car 03 Mustang GT. It was a father and son team. The dad was teaching his kid how to drag race, I wish my dad was more like that  btw.
He had a 2v mod motor in there but he's waiting on a Aviator 4v. He's going to keep the iron block, use the 4v heads and supercharge it. Anyway, I told him to do what the guy in the Evo told me. Wait for the 3rd yellow light. We ended up racing each other. He got a red light, he left early but I got a green and I had an amazing reaction time of .078. I actually beat him. He kept miss-shifting his Mustang and I ended up being almost five car lengths ahead of him when it was done. I was kind of diasapointed though. The run was 14.803 at 90.78 mph and I'm not sure what went wrong.
I know I let off the gas a tad early before passing the billboard and I don't think I hooked up that well on take off. I did a fairly big burnout before that run. The Mustang ran 15.396 btw. After that I talked with the son and his dad. I asked if they ever go to Tower Records for the meets and they said the frequently do go so expect to see a Jake and a Tim walking over to speak to us at the next meet! I think the father,Tim, may be interested in a Marauder. He was really happy to see I had one. He said he never saw one in person before. So they eventually left, and then I eventually left after the track closed and everyone went home. I stopped the car before I left the track to wipe off the number they put on your windshield to identify your car and then I got some gas from a local Mobile to get me home.
Anway, it was great and we all have to go up as a group. Now I know it's a far drive for most of us Broward dwellers. It's about 85 miles one way and a butt load of tolls. About $9.00 in total all around for tolls. It is worth it though.
