View Full Version : I Came Home To An Empty House…

…and called Mrs. MM2004 for the scoop.
She and the little one were at her Mother and Father’s house visiting, and would not be home for about an hour or so.
I quickly grabbed the detailing bucket and filled ‘er up with hot water, and ran outside :) .
Not having driven my DTR in almost 2 weeks, I had to get her clean, as I would be driving her tomorrow :banana2: .
Armed with fiber cloths, I started wiping her down.
At ~29 degrees F., I had to work quickly. Two swipes and had to dunk the cloth again :( .
Crap! Films of ice forming on the paint  .
Not being started in quite a while the beast roared to life without a fuss  .
Climate control set on defrost at 85 deg. With the fan on high.
Well, this ordeal took about 45 minutes to where my hands were practically numb when finished :( .
Called the wife and told her that my DTR was now road worthy, and spot free. With only small areas of ice present :) .
She is now more than ever convinced I am completely crazy about this car :D .
Am I the only one?
Mike.

Isn't that what your SUPPOSED to do when you have a free minute???
No wonder I'm divorced, must have been too nuts about the car...
Glad they were just visiting, would have hated to hear someone giving up the MM for a divorce settlement... or worse yet, loosing it to the spouse who'd ding and never wash it!!

Not at all. Last winter I used to uncoil the hose and use the water outside, which was ice cold, for some reason not frozen - but anyways this year I discovered I can fill it in the sink with hot water :shake: Much Better! Keep it shiney!

Now try the same thing at 10 degrees F.
I do this alot in the winter, then pull the car into the garage which never goes below freezing, so it will not freeze everything. Then I can dry and if I turn the space heaters on, give her a couple good coats of wax.

I have been known to sneak out to the car wash from the office on my lunch break. Please don't tell on me.

I do this all the time, effectively making a sheet of ice of the driveway. Hot hot water in the bucket and making sure there is clothes in the dryer, that way there is hot air coming out of the dryer vent to warm the hands in. I plan to run a hot water bib outside next to the cold one for next winter. Yea, my neighbors think im nuts....

^^^^^^^Me too!! Sometimes two to three times per week. If nothing else, just to rinse off the dust. This past week-end parked at Wal-Mart and guy walks up and knocks on the window and asks how do I keep a black car so clean (he owns a black Grand National)? I say, just keep plugging away at it, and eventually dirt will find out your car is not some place for it to be!!

I got one like that...This was with my beloved T-Bird, leaving work one night...raining a pretty good clip, but I know the car was filthly underneath so I pulled into a coin op carwash, pulled out the wash cloth and the carwash I keep in the trunk and washed my car...in the rain...I didn't need water...enough was falling from the sky. My wife and friends tried to have me committed after that.

I too have done the same, however I still used the hose :) I sure didn't need to though.

I realized it's easier to wash a car in the rain cause you don't have to worry about drying it ;)I'll rinse my car/truck off any chance I get after a drive in the rain, (and its still raining) just to rinse off the dirt, so vehicle is only waterspotted, instead of dirty too. Have been known to wash vehicle at this time if vehicle is dirty. May or may not be dried depending on time available and/or weather forecast. Rarely does any of this happen to MM as it is rarely out in the rain during the last 3 1/2 years, never yet in the snow.

Only did wash without major detailing and started mine at 8am and 30 deg yesterday before our Emerald City meet. Rolled my MM out of the garage, blew out the semi frozen hose (took 5 min and started with a trickle...but 125 psi supply before the regulator helps) and then used Hot tap water in a bucket for the soapy water. Did soapy water with mitt in sections. When mitt got cool dunked into hot water and hands never really got cold. Even used leaf blower with joggers and neighbors believing I was nuts. Final dry with towels (next time maybe I'll pre warm in dryer). Thought it would be an icy mess but came out ok and no cold hands.
