In my haste to repaint(nightshade) my starboard tail light I over did it and have imperfections on the surface. What grade sand paper could I use to sand them out? also WIll any kind of paint thinner remove the paint?

Chances are Thinners will hurt the plastic and possibly discolor it to the point that paint wont help. Try a 1500 grit wetsand paper and lightly go over it til the runs and blemishes are smooth, then re-apply the paint.

I don't recommend sanding at all, and select your solvent carefully. What removes the NightShades may affect the plastic of the lens too. So says the VHT company.

Maybe you should give them a call?

If you are just trying to sand out runs so you can repaint.. I would go with a 400 grit (if the run is bad) followed by 600 grit, then 800 grit. Then clean well, and repaint.
If you are trying to remove the Niteshades,... you are S.O.L. That stuff ain't coming off. ...period.
Keep any solvent away from plastic!!! Good rule of thumb,.. if it eats paint,.. it eats plastic.

Yarrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!
I would probably try a polishing compound or Brasso first before a sandpaper.

Lighter fluid may remove the paint but won't hurt the plastic....Give it a try??
More aggressive solvents will destroy everything...as said before!!:nono:
Good Luck!!
