:help: I have full coverage, with towing ect. I just got my renewal and the new rates are $1500 for a 6 month policy. This is from Progressive Insurance, with the new rates that Texans are paying. When I got my MM, it was listed as a Gran Marque. Now it's listed as a Marauder and the rates reflect the differance. I have suggested that MM Net. members try a get a group rate. I quess that idea went nowhere, as I have not seen any response. If any members can steer me to a less expensive insurance company, I will be eternaly grateful and will be able to keep my MM. Perhaps we can get a group rate, if enough members are willing to commit to a paticular insurance company. Any ideas ?

Jim,
I would shop around as I do not pay that for full year! I also have towing, rental, etc. with a $500.00 deductable.
Maybe call Geico to at least see what rates they offer and have them fax a copy to you. Then use that to try and find a cheaper rate.
Assuming you are in excellent standing with your current insurance provider, you shouldn't have to search far for better rates with the same coverage.
BTW, I am 42 years of age and married with one child. Good driver discounts + theft deterrent, and have 3 cars on the same policy + homeowners.
Good luck!
Mike.

I would recommend getting a quote from Allstate, I pay $1017 for 6 months for 3 cars 3 drivers, one driver 22 year old male. The rate for just the "Marauder" listed as Marauder is $327 for 6 months. All three cars have full coverage, no towing, I use AAA for that.
Is AMICA Insurance available in your area? I currently have 300/300/100 liability and $500 deductible on collision. The car is listed as a Marauder on my policy.
My total premium for a full 12 months is $470.26. I know that North Carolina rates are lower than most states, but they can't be that much lower.
I also have my homeowners insurance with them at very reasonable rates.

That's ridiculous. Mine is with MetLife. Five vehicles, two of them Marauders. and the premium is much less than that. $300k coverage, $500 deductible with a $1 Million umbrella rider.
Shop around you can do lots better than what they're offering.

I have had USAA coverage for nearly 35 years and am quite happy with them. They used to be limited to military officers and dependents. However, now I believe that they have expanded their member base. You may wish to check into it.

OK, well my driving record is somewhat less than sparkling, and I am single (which they charge higher for because they feel we take risks) now, but I just renewed mine for 800/6 mo's in DC area, which is stout in insurnce costs...
I use allstate, and that is just the auto, no homeowners or anything. It's the higher rates for injuries and liability (alot of expensive cars out here, and rrely one car per accident) and none of the minimal req's for the area. Now I also have tow/rental coverage and 30K payoff if totaled etc...
Only problem I have is aftermarket parts not covered...
By the way, I spent the last three days comparing quotes from almost all the insurers, and stuck with allstate (who was just one up from the lowest price) because they have always handled claims without issue and didn't ding me when VA started terming speeding tickets as "drag racing"...

Thanks for all the positive replies ! I am checking into several of the insurance companies that have been recommened by MM members. Again, it's too bad that we can't get a group rate. Are ther any MM memebers who are also insurance agents, and willing to admit it ??

I am a broker in NY, I don't have any markets in texas, but look aroudn for an independent agent who can shop multiple companies for you, they work for you not the insurance company.

when I re-uped my insurance yesterday I introduced the guys to the MM. They looked it up, having never heard of it before, and both had to come look at it in person. A new MM owner in the works possibly... heh heh

Group insurance rates are typically 400% higher than what you can get on the open market, through an independent agent. The price of insurance is controlled by the state, an agent cannot move it up or down 10 cents.
BTW, not only am I an agent, I own the agency.

That rate seems quite high. I too have Progressive and pay roughly $900/6 months now.

I'm insured with the green lizard and I pay 650/6 mo. policy and have towing uninsured/under insured, mechanical breakdown (covers every thing the dealership wont like if you spill your soda into the stereo), rental, minimum coverages in Texas and I'm 30 and single. Been very happy with them for 8 years now. Have had 2 vandalisms (rock thrown thru back windshild) , and varnish poured in my gas tank ( on my '01 Taraus ) , and my '89 Bronco (full size) totaled an Isuzu Rodeo ( I only had to replace a fender, headlight and corner light). 500 deductible.

Yeeks. My insurance with State Farm went up less than ten bucks a month when I changed from a 2001 CVLX to a 2003 Marauder. I was expecting a much larger increase moving to a performance car. I don't have the info with me at the moment, but I think it is no more than 80-90 a month for the Marauder.

Not a great idea to post what limits you are holding but I will say its sounds like you are getting screwed and should be able to get insurance at your age for about half what they are asking (assuming youve got a clean history).

My son has USAA coverage he acquired while he was in the military.
While shopping for insurance my Allstate agent stated "that USAA was the best " and he had it himself.
Several factors such as where you live and your driving record play a major part in the cost of insurance IMO.

I've had USAA since 2000. It's great, I have 300/300/100 coverage with a $500 deductable. Full coverage on the Marauder, and just liability on my wife's 95 Civic. I pay $465 bucks every 6 months.

I thought I heard on TV last night that the Chairman of Progressive just donated $7.5mm to MoveOn.Org. Can anybody verify? Maybe that's where your premiums are going.

I live in Fort Worth and pay less than 1/2 of that for 3 cars including the MM. I am with State Farm. Agent is Gary Stewart in Saginaw.

^^^^^I'm with the lizard too, and pay about the same for the MM and a Nissan Maxima. Been with them for a little over a year and no complaints.

Once again, a BIG THANKS to the members of MMNet. I have been able to secure a much better rate for my MM. I have a clean driving record, and have only one claim in many years. Texas has some of the highest insurance rates in the country. Drivers have little control of insurance rates here in Texas. At best, we can only do our best to not make a claim. We dont have any input, as to what the insurance companies charge us. Each year we get increased rates, often as much as 15 to 20 %. This is why so many insurance companies call Texas home ( sic ). Our rates are controled by a board that does not have to answer to voters. Just as we face the highest state sales taxs, we also have some of the higest insurance rates. Perhaps some pressure on our Texas legislators will help. but only if Texans are willing to make the effort. MHO...
