As some of my CAM friends know, Dot and I took a trip west to central Ohio this past weekend, and missed the CAM meet. Also, those that live in the area traveled to get there know, we had a serious snow fall from the storm that day. It was to have started in my home area betweem 11PM Thursday night and 1AM Friday morning. When we left at 1, it hadn't started yet.
We ran into the first snow flake while on the 695 around the northeren area of Baltimore. As we went further west, of course the snow fall grew. By the time we hit I-70, it was pretty heavy. Somewhere around Fredrick, or Hagerstown, the snow on the roads was quite deep and as yet not all plowed. We came into a major intersection where some yahoo plow driver left a nice bunch of snow across the driving lane, the on ramp had been plowed. Now, no comments please, as the beast was on cruise control when I hit it. I know your not supposed to run this way, but the roads and snow didn't/wasn't a problem till then.
The big CAT hit the plowed snow and skidded left, and in my best Tony Stewart move, I corrected and the car skidded right. Corrected again, and back to the left we went. As the cruise control had already been kicked off on the first skid, and the car had slowed, on the way back to the right, the tires grabbed, the CAT made two fishtails, and back straight we went just as thuoght it had never happened. Besides running into some really slow SUV's, Mustangs, and other drivers with OEM tires, we had no additional problems. Had the CAT had the OEM's we would have still been in the snow instead of at the end of our trip. The OEM tires would have never mad it past the 695 I-70 junction. Of course I found this out the first winter I had the car. After our first snow fall here that year, I bought the tire package from TireRack.
For those of you who think the MM can't be a winter car too, your wrong. The right tire package makes this car one of the best I've driven in snow. I grew up in winter snow in Ohio, spent 3 years in South Dakota winters with both RWD and FWD. The MM is on par with the Taraus with snow tires I drove while in S.DAK.
We also had snow on the return trip Sunday, but not half as bad and mostly in the Ohio area. I guess the Morgantown area must be in a valley as they had no more than a dusting from either storm. From about 10 miles north on I79 to about 15 miles east on I-68 there was little more than a dusting of snow. Go figure!
Anyway, to our CAM friends, we are back in the roost safe and sound. Hope to see you all at the next neet.

Glad to hear you and Dot had a safe trip. As I first started reading your story I was imaging the worst. See you both at the next meet, stay warm until then.
