I was wrong.

Yep.

It's true.

I was one of those guys who thought [and said] the big brakes were not worth the money.:argue: I thought my stock brakes were fine, and I was more than happy with them. Then, I got some first-hand expirience with these things. I walked away thing to myself-:hmmm: Then, after combining equal parts of advice from David Morton [you were right], recommendations from SoulRiot, and some common sense, I stepped up to the Baer Brakes.:thinker: I got the GT+ set-up for the fronts, and the DecelaRotors for the rear.

As I was headed to the East Coast for our Christmas meet, I stopped in at Scanlon and let Carfixer install my brakes. I even let him buy me lunch. [Quite magnanimous on my part, no?:D ]

The difference is night and day. My car had only 23k on the OEM brakes, and they were wearing fine. I had just recently added Hurst Line-Loc and flushed the system. So, it's not like my brakes were shot-far from it. The improved pedal feel/travel was noticed immediately. The new-found stopping power will leave you [as Shakes_26 so eloquently put it] "hanging in the seatbelts". Now, I haven't really done a two-feet-to-the-pedal-emergency-stop yet, as I am carefully following the rotor seasoning/pad bedding instructions. These brakes are simply incredible. Plus, just the appearance of these things makes the whole car look more "credible".

I was wrong.

They sure do look PURTY. I need the Tallboy discount and installation program! They look good enough to do even if they didn't work:eek: Dennis

Welcome to the club, Chuck.

If you've got lots of go, you need lots of whoa...

I haven't had to do any panic stops yet either, but the Wilwoods from Todd/TCE do give me much more confidence that I will be able to stop when I need to.

Werd.

Tallboy, what a coincidence. I am looking at the exact same kit sitting on my living room floor right now. They will go in shortly. Thanks for the review.

Question for ya about the pad bedding and rotor seasoning. I have read the instruction on Baer.com. They advise not to bed and season at the same time. Did you use your old pads to season the rotors first, then bed the new pads?

Seems like a real PITA, but I want to get this right.

Thanks

Charlie-I am using my new pads to season the rotors. Once I am dome with that, I'll perform the bedding procedure.I am following the enclosed intructions to the letter. These things rock-you're gonna love 'em!

OK thanks,

I read the instruction from Baer.com. I'll open up the package and read those now.

I did the same thing. The package for our cars is Marauder-specific, as are the instructions. RF hit the nail on the head about the confidence factor...:D

Excellent news! Our brakes are good for around town driving but, IMHO, nothing more.

So nobody even thought hmm cop cars are usualy going fast and need to stop fast. Why wasn't better barakes made from factory? Manual is really hinting for me to use engine braking...

I thought the brakes on my past CVPI were decent, as you can't get up to speed on those as fast as you can a Marauder. Let's say one stretch of road the CVPI would get up to 40 MPH and the MM would already be beyond 55 MPH - and now I need to slow down and turn. Of course common sense should play its role, but to me - WOT is WOT - and when I'm cranking around getting up to higher speeds quicker than my past CVPI or any other vehicle I've owned, I will be using my brakes more often, and taking much more notice of their reaction.

Glad to see some fast guys stopping fast now.

Let me add a word of warning, something I found out from a guy that went to a racing school. These hefty brakes will put you off a turn in a heartbeat. ABS won't help you when you get into a turn too fast and 'touch' the brakes in the turn to try to slow down. The added stress to the traction of your tires with this braking during the turn, especially the front tires, will cause them to break loose and off you go. There's no way to teach this except to tell it and let the driver experience it for himself, learn his new brake feel, and drive the hell out of some well known curves. Rule of thumb in road racing; wait till the last second then smoke the tires braking to scrub off only enough speed to make the turn and then lay off those brakes for the turn until you can WOT the last bit to swing the rear end around for the straightaway.

Of course you should only do this on a closed course and only if you're a professional driver.

I concur.

In road racing you hit the brakes BEFORE the turn. Lose the excess speed, get off the brakes, make the turn and give it the gas as you exit. These brakes let you run faster longer before the turn.

I was wrong.Good job Chuck. I got mine installed about a month and a half ago. Same exact set up. BTW, this is my handle here. On SVT it is wildbill. Why the change?, wildbill was taken here. Anyway...did you get them from Jerry? I should have and didn't. Went thru Baer and paid a bit more. How many miles do you have on yours? I have about 600. My brake-in period is over, and I am getting this terrible squeak now. I called Baer and they said that I am braking to easy on them, and need to do about 4-5 65mph-15 hard stops to bed the pads and it will stop. Haven't been able to yet, but I'm going to try soon. Congrats again, and they do complete the look, and work too.........Have a great holiday...Bill:beer:

Gotta love the big brakes...

I put the Wilwoods on spring before last when I was auto-crossing the MM. They made a huge difference in my confidence around the short track and the time spread. Wet track control was much better with the slotted rotors too. Instead of riding the ABS around the close corners and counter-steering for a clumsy angle, I was able to control the car and pick my entrance and exit angles much better. The speeds were a lot lower than on a road course but I'm sure you still have to slow down to go faster in either case.

I haven't yet found a reason to be sorry about the upgrade, especially now that I'm whoa-ing from 115 mph out of the trap on the straight track. For s&g's I usually try and catch the first exit when I'm in the right-hand lane. Do that a couple of times and it'll knock off the pad build-up. :D

Hey, Bill! I've only got a couple hundred miles on mine. 1 more tank of gas, then I'll bed the pads as instructed. My only regret is I waited this long to do it. All The Best for the Holiday Season-I hope to talk to you soon.

Let me know how it goes with the bedding process. Do you have any squeeking yet? I haven't been able to really run a few stops yet with mine, so I am hoping that will do the trick. Keep me posted...

A absolute upgrade for my car in the very near future. I have had Baer brakes on my last two Supercharged Mustangs. They are awesome. Can't wait to get those puppies on the Marauder. Can't wait to see them on your car Chuck.
