I finally got my gaskets replaced , HURRAH! and that means in goes the bottle. Instead of drilling into the trunk I want to construct a platform to attach the bottle to. A plywood sheet ( 18 x 12 ) covered by matching gray carpet and positioned to the left of my full sized spare below the speaker tray is where Im wanting to put it. I think it will be heavy enough not to move on its own. My question to you all is... is this a good idea?

Maybe one of these equipment trays used for radio equipment in Crown Vic Police cars would do the trick. Would probably have to go on the passanger side deck where the spare is. Just a thought.

I installed mine where the spare tire is located. Works very well, just don't carry a spare anymore. Weight, you know! NMRA rules say you need a bypass valve to exit the trunk or a plat welded behind the rear seat to seperate the passenger compartment from the trunk with the Nitrous. Is good to do one or the other.

If the bottle is located in the trunk you don't need a blow down tube. Thats only if your car is a hatchback or something of that nature where if the burst disk blows it vents into the passanger compartment.

Do not just mount it on a piece of wood. That is a large bottle compressed to 800-1200psi. I havn't gotten under these cars yet but you need to use the right fastners and secure it to the floor of the trunk somehow. NHRA tracks will not let you run unless you have Metal bottle brackets and its properly secured to the metal of the car. I had plastic brackets that came with my kit and couldn't run them till I got metal ones.

Since a blower is in my stangs future I think nitrous is in my MM's future. You wouldn't even need to worry about gears that much. A nice 100hp/140ft-lbs of TQ down low oughta get the car skootin down the track.

Matt,

I am not disagreeing, but the NMRA guys in Tech have told me three times to install a blow out vent or put sheet of metal between the passenger compartment and the trunk. They told me if I did not conform to the rules I could not race.

Some track tech's are REALLY anal but last time I read the book it said what I posted. When I had nitrous with my SHO I never had a problem with not having a blow down tube. In the stang I was required to install the blow-down tube. I freaking hate drilling holes in cars. In fact I didn't replace the plastic brackets for about a year cause I just kept sneaking in about 10 times because I reinstalled my nitrous and hid all the lines. Then finally realized relying on plastic brackets to hold that big bomb in place was a bad idea.

Another thing to do is just hide it. Don't tell them your running nitrous and install all the ZEX box in the fender or hide it in the engine compartment, paint it black, and run the jet under or to the rear of the TB. Hell the beauty of these cars is they're "sleeper" image. When I move the nitrous over to this car it will be hidden. It will be fun to go out and destroy the ego's of mustang and camaro owners. MI2quik- awsome link, i might consider those. its more or less what i was thinking but not half assed.:D

Jerry Barnes- Ya i take my spare out for the track, it can sit in the trunk all the other time. I'm going to do a blow off valve, dont want to get goofy going down the track ala tommy boy.

Nitrous- im going to mount it below the tray and run the line to the engine compartment. I like the idea of all stealth install , but where do I hide the 10lb , purple nitrous tank?

I like the idea of all stealth install , but where do I hide the 10lb , purple nitrous tank?

1.Mount the tank just behind the right rear tire.

2.Purchase beat up old tool box. Get one with a hinged top and lift out tray for access.

3.Cut the bottom off it. Torch, Sawzall etc.

4.Set tool box on top of the bottle.

5.Tell people you want an extra car length or two 'cause you have a 100lb tool box in the trunk!

6. Post a pic here of the install!

Ok fellows. I have a question. I know it's dumb, but how dangerous is nitrous?
It sounds as if your putting a 10lb.bomb just above your gas tanks. What I
mean is how unstable is this stuff.? I love going fast just as much as the next
guy but at what price? Also does it really give you a 100hp boost?

I'm not sure on this one, but those stealth trays may not work with our subwoofers in the way.

If the burst disc blows it won't be like tommy boy. Thats movie magic for you. Also fast and the furious is lame movie magic to. Nitrous isn't flamable it just enhances the combustion process by feeding super cold super dense air allowing more fuel to be added which in turn adds more HP. Almost like a chemical supercharger. However if you took a nitrous bottle and shot at it or tore the bottle some how its gona blow something up. If you mount it right in the trunk and think about where you put it you'll be fine. These bottles are pretty damn tough, I've seen people do stupid **** with them. Like, drop them, heat them with a torch (HUGE NO NO) and drop them ON the valves. They've leaked but never exploded on a valve drop.

The nitrous you fill up with is called Nytrous plus. It contains 100ppm of sulfer to prevent abuse (aka sniffing). When the burst disc blows (around 2000-2500psi) a cloud of white stank ass stuff goes all over in the car. You don't want to deliberatly inhale that stuff. It stinks enough unhooking the bottle when there is pressure in the line.

Nitrous does give you awesome power. But its not the HP that whoops ass. Its the torque. Look at the differences in my signature with my mustang. Thats with a 125 shot and tuning for nitrous. With a 100 shot you can expect to see 120-140ftlbs of TQ as soon as you hit it at 2500rpm. Also the shot ratings are at the flywheel not the wheels.

Reguarding the style of kits, wet vs dry. On our cars I STRONGLY recommend only doing dry kits. I've seen way to many cobra intakes get blown up from the puddling of fuel. Dry systems shoot only nitrous into the intake tract, and increases the fuel pressure to the injectors to compinsate for the extra fuel. A wet kit shoots both fuel and nitrous into the intake. With the long runner style and all the curves of the intake it has alot of places to puddle up. If you ever get a nitrous backfire you can kiss your intake good bye.

The OTHER thing thats VERY important is if you plan on trying to shift the trans yourself get a rev limiter that cuts spark NOT fuel like the stock one does. IF you always let the trans shift on its own no worries. You just don't want to hit the OEM limiter while the hot sauce is flowing.

And finally tuning. If your sticking the kit on an stock programed car I would suggest not going over 75hp. The pistons in these cars are hyperucraptic and HATE detonation. For a 125 shot I'd recommend 3-4* pulled.

Oh yeah, classic way to hide nitrous is just put a gym bag over it with a few socks or t-shirt kinda hanging out. No one is gona ask to see your stinky work out clothes.
