I've got several connections with ford to get an attept at my car to be repainted but since I'm not the original owner so this may be challanging.

The car has 28k and I consider myself lucky. The only problem area's are the hood and roof. The roof actually has paint thats come off down to the primer. Everything else looks perfect.

I need you to post on this thread how much was repainted and what the problem was that required the repaint. I'm going to use the info I can gather from this board when I go in. I have searched and printed up some good info but some threads sounds like they "attempted" Also if anyone has pictures I'd love to get them. You can e-mail them to shoman96@aol.com.

I know I'm new and havn't contributed much to the board but don't worry. I will. :)

Thanks guys/gals. With this boards help I'm pretty sure I can get my baby fixed. :thanks:

You can try this approach, but info from this board will be considered as hearsay.
Ford does look into what is posted here, on their own, but they will not recognize any of it.
Your Dealership Service Manager may be surprised to find out just how many Marauder owners keep in touch with each other.
He may also be surprise to learn how much knowledge you have of the Marauder that he doesn't, and Ford claims doesn't exist.

You are better off utilizing our advice and working the best solution
you can with your Dealership Service Manager, and the Ford Field Rep.

There are several members that have had their cars repainted.
BigDogJim has had about 80% of his car repainted.

The only advice I can give you is to be diplomatic, firm, and keep a cool head.

Good Luck, and keep us up to date on what transpires.

I had a Cougar XR-7...you may remember the 6 cylinder supercharged ones....
it was a black clear coat.
The paint began to pit and fade almost immediatedly...:(
the dealer finally agreed to repaint the "top" of the car for me...
A year or so later when I was ready to sell the car ...the repaint job looked terrible...It was obvoius that the prep and finish work was the pits....
I not sure how you can control poor workmanship from the dealer on a repaint...
I almost wish I had bit the bullet and taken it to a private shop...
Just my 2 cents...

I had most of my 2004 MM repainted under warranty, but I jumped on it right away thanks to the information on this site.

I did a post in detail about it about a year ago.

Thanks Hitchhiker, I will do a search under your name and see what I find.

Another thing to add is I'd like them to do it free but hey this is the real world and sometimes you gona pay even if its not your fault. I'll negotiate with them up to around 35% I'll pay. I want this car lookin good. For business and for show.

I had my hood repainted, but I don't have any pics. My local Ford (not L/M) dealership did the work, and they've been pretty helpful, even though I didn't buy the car there. I think one of the best approaches is to find a dealership that has "enthusiasts" working the service drive. I'm fortunate in that my two closest dealerships fit that bill. When the guys you're talking to appreciate and understand the car, they seem to be more willing to help. It's also amazing what a quick drive will do for the service writer to get them more sympathetic, especially if you encourage the to mash on the loud pedal.

Check the paint warranty card in the owners manual. Generally it's 5/6yrs (I think) or XXXX amount of miles. So I don't see why the paint warranty wouldn't be transferable. The 3/36 B2B one is.

I had my whole car repainted at approx 17K on the clock. It took me months of going back and forth but FORD sent a Rep who agreed the paint was defective. They agreed to repaint the whole car except the bumpers. The dealership farmed the repaint out to a local shop. I met with the owner and had them shave the rear badge and put blue, emerald green, copper and white pearl in the clear coat. The car turned out beautiful. It only cost me $300 out of my own pocket to have the bumpers done so they would match the rest of the car. I did a post awhile back with a couple of pics. I wish you luck with getting yours done.

Thanks to the information on this board I was made aware of the paint issues. I bought my current Marauder in the spring of 2005. A 2003 Black 300B with 19k miles with the balance of the factory 3 year warranty ending in August 2006. I had the common white spots. I took my car to the body shop that does the work for my local dealer. He looked at the car's white spots and said FoMoCo would blame then on environment problems and that is only covered under warranty for the first 12k miles. The body shop manager did find some very minor paint cracks and that is warranty damage. I then went to the service writer and told him the body shop had inspected my car and the paint defects were not environmental but a Mercury problem. Since their expert had already given his professional opinion my case was made. They painted the hood, roof and trunk. Great job that looks better than factory.
My suggestion is to let the paint shop the dealer uses to verify that there is a problem and its not your problem. Don't forget the body shop wants the paint work where the dealer may have little or no gain $$$ painting your car.

Good luck but do your homework.

I had problems on the hood, roof, and trunk lid. Spots that looked like hen's feet. The dealer repainted all the upper surfaces under warranty. I have a 2003 and the work was done in April/May of 2005.

I just had the whole exterior repainted at Eastgate ford.
Hamilton Ontario Canada..
had to got above the dealers to a district warranty manager..
I also had to pay 25% of the cost..
White spots, cracking and peeling inside of doors..
Keep trying they know there is a problem and will do
everyhing including repainting it without admitting to it..
If you have connections through someone running fords
in a fleet..
I am happy with the results but will have a better assessment
once the car is out of storage...washed and waxed..

I had a door repainted after I found debris under the paint. I claimed that someday the clearcoat would chip off this sharp protruding foreign mass under the paint after mucho rubbing....

Whatever...they went for it under warranty because the car only had 12k at the time.

I wish I would have pushed the issue.

BTW: As much as I like this dealership, they even screwed up painting one door.:shake: Overspray on the window rubber molding, and mask marks near the door trim.

I had problems on the hood, roof, and trunk lid. Spots that looked like hen's feet.

I experienced the same situation on a 1985 Parisienne. This developed over time and was no doubt due to the car being washed in the hot sun. The suspicion was cold water interacting with a hot surface. Obviously I knew nothing about paint care at the time.:alone:

Best of luck to you on your adventure. I have absolutely zero faith in the dealerships I have discussed this issue with. They treat me as though I know nothing about cars, ect.. I have a good friend who is a service mngr for dodge/chrysler. He had his body guy look at it. He said it was the worst factory paint job he has seen since the early '70s Corvettes. So, I am going to paint the car myself. At least I know it will be done right with great quality paint! Good luck again!!!;)
