I ordered the filter and plate on ebay for 27$ total with shipping.
Since the car is under bumper to bumper and I may need to take it back for something I opted to leave the lower part of the box installed. This sits the filter right in the box.
Note. You'll need to get some little nuts/bolts because the stock screws are just very corse screws for the plastic top of the air box. The size of the opening is about 1/2" smaller than the opening of the MAF, however the maf tapers back down and they're close to the same size. The plate is VERY VERY thick so when I work on part 2 I'm gona hit it with the airtools and enlarge it a little bit. Or I can use this plate as a templet to weld/make a new one easy. Installation time was about 10 minutes including me going through my "nut/bolt bucket" to find matching ones that are the right size.
Overall impression for the drive around the block. Slightly throatier sound at part throttle. WFO at about 5000rpm Wow she gets a growlin/howlin! I still have the stock elbo and little air muffler on. They will be removed in Part 2: of "Cheapy Cold Air" I will use a 4.5 to 4" reduction 45* Elbo, a 4" section of pipe then a 4/3.5 straight reducer to the MAF. I'll post pics tomorrow. My camera is charging at the moment.
