A local customer had bought his SSR earlier this year I have never seen one of these trucks up close,
The owner came by last Monday after picking the car up from one of the top Car painters in the area, Paul Holman of Visual FX. Paul added the smoked flames on top of the Black base coat it really does look good.

The owner wanted to add some RWHP and asked if we could do it, so after several phone calls we found what he was looking for, here is the stock engine bay.

Here is a work of beauty a pollished Magnason blower with after cooler, we will be installing this next week along with two water to air kits for two lucky Marauder owners.

That paint job is on the gaudy side. I think it ruins the look of that otherwise sharp SSR. LOL...I think that paint job adds some class to the otherwise gaudy SSR! Oh well, to each his own...

Thanks for your input David, the owner loves it and that is all that matters, I believe the term is to each his own,

I don't like the paint either. It looks like an old bowling ball I had.

I was at DR's when the SSR came and the paint job is much more subtle in person. The digital camera somehow has kind of smeared the smoke on the front and really highlighted it in the rear. The truck is gorgeous. There are a couple of barely detectable flaws but overall the deep black with the very subtle ghost smoke is sharp. I don't know why it is so pronounced in the photo. I do know that when that blower kicks in the paint won't matter! Dennis

Dennis,
That sure is a pretty piece of hardware. That lucky dog. Sure hope he doesn't try to talk you into puting that engine cover back on.
BTW, Thanks for all your help this past year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours and all the folks at Reinhart Automotive.
January 3, 2006 will be one year with my 04 DTR, and loved every minute of it.
Smiles for miles

A MagnaCharger! I want one!!
Yeah, Dennis, I've heard about Magnussen's superchargers, and am very surprised and pleased you are installing them. I had resigned myself that I would have to schlepp up to MA to get one installed.
Here's a shot of the polished Magnussen installed (the SSR you are working on is an 04 or 03 - you can tell from the last 5 digits in the VIN, if it's higher than 3300, it's an 04) on the 5.3L:

Dennis: if you haven't discussed upgrading the cooling fan on the SSR radiator, you may want to give that a look and talk options with the owner. Also, the tranny could likely use an auxiliary cooler. These trucks tend to run warm as it is, the blower is gonna add some heat to the mix.
Please keep me posted on the install! That truck is going to haul A.
I like the paint, btw. SSR owners tend to go in for custom paint jobs, much more than Marauder owners. The SSR is a fast truck, sure, but their owners are more into crusing and shows than running down the track, though there is a contingent of performance minded owners that have done extensive modding like MM'ers do.
Personally, I may go for a two tone similar to Boyd Coddington's SSR:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/1/1/3/6/boyd.jpg
There are factory paint two tones on the '06, but I like Coddy's choice for the upper, very nice. I would not put on his wheels, though, and this is too slammed for my taste.
What is nice is this truck here, all body mods done by the owner. Very slammed, but it's an air suspension so it can be raised up for driving:

Sure hope he doesn't try to talk you into puting that engine cover back on.
He couldn't even if he wanted to. The SC replaces the stock intake, and the cover won't fit on the SC.
He will need to buy some coil covers, though, to dress it up.

Well we started on the SSR yesterday this is a very easy kit to install, it comes complete with injectors it uses the stock maf and does have a TRex inline pump, and uses Super chips flash tool. Steve installed the pump first.

Next the OEM intake is removed

Next we add the complete assembly notice the black accessory drive this is made out of carbon fiber.

Thank you that means a lot to me, we also finished a 05 Avalanch with a Magnason set up and it came with a Carbon fiber cover and it also was a real neat install I will post some pictures of this.

At first, it looked like there was salt sprayed all over the front - like in the winter. Takes talent to pull that effect off though ;)

Dennis Reinhart
12-29-2005, 09:59 AM
Well I think it looks great, more important the owner loves it. We are going to put it on the Dyno later today, the only draw back to this setup is its tuned by Super chips not SCT so any corections the tuner has to go back to Magnason for corections, SCT will have GM software early next year I have been waiting on this for a long time.

I understand Kooks is making headers for the SSR now. I know about Dynatech's as well, but you being a Kooks dealer, that would be awsome!
That's one great lookin install there, Dennis!

GM sells a upgrade kit that puts foam sealing strips around the stock air intake, so hot air from the engine bay is prevented from entering the front air intake. Cost is about $130 for all the brackets (two) and foam insulator strips (3)
K&N makes an intake for this model year SSR (5.3 is a little different from the the 6.0).
There is a coil relocation bracket and polished valve cover kit available for supercharged engines. Unlike Ford, which has a coil cover on top of the valve cover to hide the coils and wires, once the engine cover is removed on the SSR, you can see the coils and wires. This kit relocates the coils and puts on whole new polished valve covers. A bit pricey and this is a very new item.
There's a cold air induction hood available. It has a scoop and ducting that ends right at the OEM intake location. It would need to be painted (which, considering the custom paint already done, makes this less than attractive).

The truck feels very strong we will not get it on the dyno till tomorrow, the owner is a helicopter pilot. The later models are far better especialy with the hood struts and the six speed the prop rod on this truck is very flimsy and can actualy fold in the middle if not carefull.

The gas hood struts on the '05 and '06 models can be retrofitted to his truck. I'll check and see if there's a kit number for it.
BTW, if somebody has ever shut his hood with the prop rod up and bent it (or he suspects it has happened.... and dealers are notorious for doing it) he should replace the rod, according to the SSR project manager who posts over on the SSR board.
Really looking forward to the dyno results!

I was up close and personal today with this gorgeous work of art/machinery... I was impressed with the paint scheme as well as the blower unit ... this is going to be an extremely sexy machine running down the road !
Oh... I did leave RoadPig 1 with Dennis to start the VorTech air to water install too. Did the mandatory shmoozing of the guard dog and sucking up to the garage cat too !

Yes we had fun yesterday chasing tigger and looking at the project cars here. To day we are starting the transformation from Road pig to Road Warrior, mods are as follows 410 Gears rear stud girdle ADDCO front and rear sway bars, Pro guard, Art Carr trans upgrade, PI 300 stall. While the trans is out we will install the rear engine cooling kit, and we will add the Art car deep trans pan, Dyno tech MMDS, Vortech water to air
