With only a little over 800 miles on the clock I took it to Norwalk today totally stock off the showroom floor did what Mercury claims
The first run was bad real bad try going sideways as I torque braked to 1500 RPM's and released the brake and began dancing all over then the whole car started to go for the other lane had to back off and reapply the throttle. still managed to get a 86.77 MPH trap speed and a 20.094
R/T .993
60 3.360
330 9.755
1/8 14.417...MPH 60.44
1000 17.463
1/4 20.094 MPH 86.77
Round 2 abandon the torque brake method and went to release brake and then feather gas until the tires hooked then depress the pedal to floor. But the R/T suffered
:shake: a 1.273 But not a bad run
R/T 1.273
60 2.564
330 6.873
1/8 10.306...MPH 72.40
1000 13.211
1/4 15.651 MPH 92.49
Round 3 was my best
R/T 1.228
60 2.424
330 6.664
1/8 10.057...MPH 73.11
1000 12.937
1/4 15.363 MPH 92.81
So I'm happy as it delivers and the amount of people around it diffenently when I open the hood was amazing.

Good to know. 800 miles is nothing, I hear they'll open up with some real break-in miles on them.
With my WS6, I went from a really difficult 13.9x @ 100.x when the car had but 3000-4000 miles on it, to suddenly pulling effortless 13.4x @ 107.x mph by the time it clocked about 12000 miles.
At the rate I'm racking up the miles, I'll be past the break-in mileage sometime next year. Damned weather...

BlackHole - Good ET's for the first time out with a stock Marauder. It can only get better. John:up:

My buddy ran his SS yesterday. Best was a 13.17 in the 1/4. I believe he's got about 16,000 on his? Pretty much bone stock, expect for the fact it's running open CATS.

Dude, your reaction time is horrible. I know it was your first time, but geeze. 1.228?
You have to go on the third yellow. By the time your foot moves over to the gas pedal, 1/2 seconds later, it turns green and you're OFF!

It's horrible only if he was bracket racing, or going heads-up against another similar-performing car. Reaction times don't affect ET, the clock starts counting down only after the light beam is broken at the starting line.
Here's a little trick that can sometimes 'enhance' 1/4-mile trap speeds (by how much, I don't know, probably just a small improvement): when you advance to the lights, creep slowly such that you light up the 'pre-stage' lights. Continue to creep even slower such that you *just* light up the second set of lights ('staged'). This means your front tires will have *just* broken the staging light beams. This will give you about a half-wheel's width amount of room to 'get going' before the clocks start, thereby giving you more distance over which you're accelerating. Could be worth a few tenths of a MPH, and is a good technique for minimizing 'red-lighting'. ET might drop a smidgeon too, since you're already moving faster by the time you trip the start-line lights.
For those looking to cut a great light at the expense of trap speed (ie. in an intense bracket racing situation), you're better off continuing to creep until the pre-stage lights go off... this means you've gone too far... back up a bit until they light again. Now you're as close to the starting line as you can be, and if you're trigger-happy on the launch, you might just 'red-light'.

Play nice calypso, and read between the lines.
BlackHole: That's quite the cruz to Norwalk for you. I hope you return this summer. I would like to hook up with you. This "track" racing is intruiging to me. I have never done it in a real car. Just the propane dragsters at the adult playsites out here in Dallas. But it's good 'reaction time' practice.

Going to FFW in July 11-13 Thats FUN FORD WEEKEND!
At Norwalk Might also be going to Carlise SP? in May to
And this was my 3rd time at a drag strip and done a .663 R/T
And also my first experiance with RWD. My problem like I said before was no losy traction had to feather gas until tires took hold. I had my right foot on brake took it off and then feathered gas and then hit it. If I could of done Brake torque technique hold brake with left foot and run RPM to 1200 and let go of brake my R/T's would of been better. Done to much work with Right foot:rolleyes:

hey BlackHole,
What happened to your 60' time?
You need to be running 2.1s or better on your street tires. With your MPH and a decent 60' time, you should run a 14.9 or so. You should try nailing it right from idle and let the converter do it's work. By brake torquing, you have effectively reduced your weight transfer and hurt your tire's grip.
I will abort a run if I get a 2.1 or worse 60' time. After a lot of practice, you can guess your 60' time right after take-off.
You need to practice more.

That's what MM+FF wrote in their article on the Marauder. Their times were much better that way.

I'll try it at my local 1/8th track and see what happens.

Absolutely correct...brake torque is only good for leaving a sig. in front of your neighbors house! :P
