I decided I wanted a more stealthy sounding approach, so after reading the posts and talking with some members more in the know that I; had my FloMaster 40's removed today and the stock Marauder mufflers I bought a few months ago installed. The effect is exactly what I wanted. The Reinhart Cobra Exhaust mainifolds and Hi Flo cats into the X pipe on thru the stock mufflers and tips still deliver the extra power thru better breathing while reducing the noise level to just about stock. I like it. I know a lot of members like more rumble than I and I respect that...in fact to the point that my FloMaster 40's..with about 6K on them are for sale and will be posted in the For Sale, WTB Forum at a bargain price to members. They aren't pretty but the do rumble. They have always lived in Central Florida so no salt, ect. Dennis:cool:

I'm completely the opposite. I bought some delta 40's and I think in the spring I'll be getting the super 40's :) I don't drive my MM everyday, so when I do ... I want it fast, and I want it LOUD! :)

I think I'm the only Marauder running Spintech Mufflers.

I am running 18" magnaflows that started out with a nice deep rumble and now have progressed to can't hear s**t..I like Defyants ford dual mode mufflers but will be looking at all choices..

The dual mode mufflers are the ****zzat. I have them, and with my open system, they soundn just right, absoultely NO drone on the highway, a hint/little at about 35-40mph, part throttle, and when you drop the hammer its just sweet music!

Where do you get these 'dual mode' mufflers, and how loud are they compared to the super 40's?

Ford Racing
I got mine through TAF, he got them at John Blakely Ford (Georgia), they had good pricing. I've seen them in the FF&MM , also might be in Summit/Jegs as well.
Check with Ray, he may be able to get you a deal.
As for volume, they are significantly queiter at idle/part throttle, once they flip open (hence dual mode) they are a plenty 'authoritative'. Remember they are 2.5" center in/outlet which allows them to act as straight pipe when the flap opens.... hence 'dual mode'
Sorry I can't be more specific, but then again everyones exhuast config is different as well. I run FMS shorties with 3" pipe to 3" cats, then neck down to 2.5" x pipe and 2.5" all the way to res del tips. Your 3" exhaust will sound different as well.

Dennis...I'm happy you got what you wanted, and I am very pleased by your selection. I hope it serves you well.
Where do you get these 'dual mode' mufflers, and how loud are they compared to the super 40's? They come in pairs, from Ford Racing Parts, which is an exclusive source. First seen in the 2005 catalogue, they performed well enough to get picked up for the 2006 catalogue. Part number M-5230-BP2, page 89 in the '06 catalogue, $375.00 a set. You can buy direct here...

"How loud" is a judgement call, not something we can trade here. Best you hunt down an installed set for that determination. Carry on, gents.

These Dual-Mode'rs interest me greatly.
The "quieter at part throttle" part concerns me a little. Do you mean quieter than stock? At what point (throttle opening, RPM, etc.) do they "open up"?
Since I'm assuming they operate on exhaust pressure, would they be harder to 'open up' on an otherwise stock exhaust system since the restriction occurs much earlier in the path?

Question about the 40s: did they drone badly or were they just loud? Knowing that the MM exhaust note is somewhat quiet at low throttle and idle, I'm interested in the details. Also, how were things in the 2000 RPM region in 4th?

I love the "growl" of this setup, best set up available for the street, IMHO.

They were just a little loud with a nice rumble with the stock exhaust. The Cobra setup quieted them a little but sharpened the bark at idle and there was some (but not awful) drone at I highway (80) speed. Probably enhanced by the 4.10's. None of it was bad but louder than I wanted. It would be great to have the rumble at idle and low speed and quiet at high:D Everything is a trade off I guess. I really like the set up now.
THANKS to MAC, Rick and Shakes, Chuck, Claude and DR. and all the others who posted related items. Dennis

Guess I'll have the 18" magnaflows installed and see how that and the Intake plays out. If the drone kills me like the bosals did after dynamatin the entire rear of the car with the 6, check the For Sale area for my slightly used MF's ;) Nice interor and exterior vids any sound clips/vids of under load exteror?

A used set of MM OEM mufflers will provide what alot of the folks above are looking for in their exhaust system. The MF are loud after a period of use. The stock mufflers after a period of use are just right. Connect your headers and X-pipe to your OEM mufflers and try it for awhile. If you do not like it, it is easy to just swap in a pair of after market mufflers. Take one step at a time. Believe me with headers and a hi-flow X-pipe the stock mufflers delivery a nice sound.
