Remove the cowl / wiper assembly.

I recently swapped cam / valve covers. To do this mod, I had to remove the cowl / wiper assembly. I wish I had known how easy it was to remove this before I did the Trilogy.

No flames, but getting in back of the blower during installation was a pain in the ass. With the cowl / wiper assembly removed, it was a breeze to clear up a few things I was not happy with. All your vacuum lines and access point through the fire wall is back there.

To remove it:

1. Pop the wipers off.
2. Remove the cowl - 6 screws, 2 plastic push pins and 4 metal clips. I will lift off easily.
3. Remove 6 8mm and 1 10mm bolts (I could be wrong about the size and quantity here, but I'm close) holding the wiper assembly. Do not mess with the wiper mechanisms. They are all integrated into the black plastic housing and comes out as a unit.
4. With the bolts removed, lift up on the assembly. It has some soft material on the bottom where it rests on the firewall that causes it to be alittle stuck. No big deal really.
5. With the assembly in your hands, unplug the wire harness to the wiper motor. I chose to leave the windshield washer fluid line connected and simply turned the whole assembly around the hood strut and laid it on the windshield. There is just enough hose to do this.

Installation is obvious.

Have a bag or small box for all the screws and bolts. A battery power screw gun makes this job even faster. I got the screws and bolts in each step free with the right tool, then get the screw gun.

For some pics, see The Cam Cover replacement thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23660). I was not planning on this thread, so I did not detail this removal.

Sounds like a pretty good idea. Nothing that's mandatory, but I'm sure that it would've made life a little easier during the supercharger installation... NOW you tell me! :)

I wish that I lived closer to ya bud. Cuz I'd offer a hand if I did. Good luck, and I look forward to reading your post about your new found Marauder power!!!

This was the only part of the install, besides setting the blower on the intake,
I needed help with.
I could not get my catchers' mitt size hands out from between the inlet duct and the wiper cowl.
I was luckey when a visitor sprayed lubricant on my hand to get it free!
Great idea!

I have just about everything I need, only thing I don't have is the inch/lb torque wrench, I have like 3 ft/lb ones...I'm probably going to use this as a chance to pick one up, it would've been very handy on a few other projects I've had in the past anyway.

I'll fill you in when I get closer to nailing down a date.

:)

Thanks!
