Hey Guys,
As a long time Mustang fan, I became aware of a brand new 2004 Mustang GT with the 40th anniversary package still on a dealers lot around 4 hours away. I had spoken with the dealer about at what kind of reduced price the car could be had for. I had all but decided to make the trek, and in all liklihood, buy the car, but there wasn't enough time yesterday to make the trip in time. The kicker, was that I had also become aware of a brand new 2003 Marauder that was still on a dealers lot not far from my old home town. There was enough time to drive down and look at it. Even after the initial test drive, I struggled with the decision as to which car would truly be my choice, especially since I had always pined for a Mustang GT. And, I didn't know if a car the size of the Marauder would really suit me at 29 years old. Well, after coming to an agreement on an excellent price with the dealer for the Marauder, I took the plunge. And after bringing the car home today, I am surprised that the decision was a struggle at all. I love this car! I have driven a number of fun cars, inlcuding the 2005 Mustang GT, which I think is excellent, but somehow I find driving my newly purchased marauder more enjoyable. This is the most unique and bad ass looking vehicle I have ever driven. If Darth Vader were to drive a car, this would be it.
I will note, and perhaps not surprising to some of you, that there seems to be an issue with the sub woofer, which I will get addressed, but it doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for this car one bit. My only real complaint, is that they stopped producing them, as I now can't imagine driving anything else!

I purchased the car in Langenburg, Saskatchewan at Langenburg Motors. Strangely, after the car had been sitting there for essentially 3 years, at the very moment I was doing up the paperwork for the car, they had a call from a guy very much wanting to purchase it. He was a little surprised at his bad luck. I sure would have been kicking myself if I would have dragged my heals on it, and someone else purchased it instead. The order code on the car is a 300A. It comes with the 6 disk CD changer along with the trunk organizer. I'm anxious to take some pics of it; however, I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit so I can wash it first.
The car had never been registered, but did have 600 KM on it, as it would have been test driven a little to be sure, and had been driven to Winnipeg once to a dealer sale where the dealer had attempted to sell it. They were unsuccessful, luckily for me, and trailered the car back to Langenburg at that point. Likely one of my first orders of business will to to change the oil in it. Although it has basically no miles, I imagine the oil in it has never been changed since it had initially arrived at the dealer 3 years ago. Perhaps not a big issue, but I want to make sure I look after this car as if it were my first born.
Regarding the VIN, thanks for the offer, but I'm already having it run, as my Father is in the business also.

jimlam56, that is quite the find! Get that oil out of there ASAP. Most here have used the MotorCraft 5w-20 for break in, then change out to a full synthetic oil. Do a search and you will find info on the sub woofer problem. As a ps, I too chose my Marauder over a special anniversary edition 04 Stang GT. Have not regretted it once.

ideal to rid the car of break in oil at 600 to 1000 miles on odo. Think the car likes synthetic better(curently running Royal Purple/Redline Mix) but wait a while till you swap over to it ;)

Ok, thanks for the advise. I was initially a little anxious to pull the current oil out of it, due to the fact that it would likely be over 3 years old. But then again, I guess it hasn't really had any miles put on it yet.

if oul is 3 years old in the car..i'd pull it ;) Dino oil isn't good to leave in that long unless you can find recods the dealership changed it. I at least had the ability before purchase at carmax to pull up/print out everything they fixed or replaced on the vehicle and at what mileage.
*edit*my previous post is saying continue using motorcraft as the refill oil till 3k on odo. then go full syn if you choose to.

Ok, I understand, thanks.
Congrats
But here are somethings to be watchful for:
1. Flat spotted tires.
2. Drive the MM for 200 miles and then perform a transmission fluid flush, eng coolant flush, brake fluid flush and change out the diff. axle fluid.
3. Condition the leather seats with lexol leather conditioner
4. Get some spray silicone lubricant and lube all weatherstips (doors, windows and trunk), rubber suspension bushings and suspension/steering dust boots.
5. Drive and enjoy you ride in great weather, buy a beater for your winter months.

I would definitely have the oil changed by the dealer before delivery.
Many dealers often throw in the first oil change for nada on a new car.
I bought my 04 last October, it had been on the lot (4) months & had 66 miles on it. I'm in Florida - I searched & found the car on-line up in Maryland.
As I was signing the obligatory form after form .....
The salesman finally gets to the free oil change form & chuckles.
Him - "I don't see you driving back up here from FL to make use of this"
Me - "You're right ..... that's why I'd be more than happy to let you guys honor that & change the oil right NOW".
LONGEST wait EVER for a frickin oil change mind you(was a Saturday) .....
But it was worth it IMHO.
Who's to say how many of those 66 miles were hard, or how much condensation built up in there from short starts/test drives etc etc.
And I had close to 1100 miles ahead of me to get home.

My dealer told me he recently had someone looking for a Marauder. He actually found three new ones in N Cal at dealerships. One of the problems though was price. All incentives are off these things now, and even he couldn't negotiate a good enough deal to get one to sell his potential customer.

300A's had to be built, what, December 02 and prior?
I thought my MM was a lot queen sitting around for 13 months from production.
In fact, knowing there are still 02 built cars out there make me feel 100% better, since my SSR was an early '05 production model (less than 100 in the VIN sequence from an '04), built in September, '04, and sat in my dealer's show room over a year.
While changing fluids can't hurt and is relatively inexepensive, I doubt it necessary, especially trans, brake, and differential. Synthetics (or blends) don't degrade with age, it's use (and heat) that do them in. Peace of mind, however, is worth doing it. Certainly the dealer would have changed anything out under Ford recommendations for vehicles that are in inventory for a long period of time.
I don't recall, but does Ford recommend oil changes on at least yearly intervals despite mileage? Then, as argued on another board, doesn't this recommendation assume an interval from in-service date?
Anywho, enjoy your new car.

Wouldn't the dealers already have gotten their year-end dealer cash, holdbacks, and allowances? I'd think they'd be so friggin glad to move a car that's cost them a fortune in floor plan that they'd take a loss.
Back in the day, I worked at a Chevy dealership that had a Cavalier and a Citation in stock that were three model years old like these MM's. Worse, they had a white S-10 cab and chassis they had spec'd a utility body on it that was a year older. All three were eventually sold.... thousands below dealer cost, considering the spiff paid to sales, floor plan, etc. And all three went to "problem credit" buyers who the dealer went recourse (i.e. garunteed the loan with GMAC).
I cant understand why any dealer with a new, untitled MM wouldn't put them up on ebay.

All Canadian '03s were 300A's, so the above doesn't hold true - only for US sold cars.

US 300A = No CDN counterpart (Canadian production hadn't started when the US 300A's were on the production line.

Not true. The last Sasquatch appears to have died in 1986 or so due to hypothermia. We only discovered this lately when we got our first motorized vehicles up here in 1994, which we then used to build our first electric power lines (we only got electricity in 1992). Good thing we got those vehicles when we did... OPEC (Odor Producing Eskimo Canines) started pushing up dog food prices and our sled dogs just became too expensive to operate. Food-efficient Import dogs were just NOT an option up here (the tow limit of a Shiatsu is easily overcome).
2006 promises to be an exciting year for us, as we're due to get our first telephones this year! This is great, because we're all anxious to hear from Frank who went up north in 1996 as part of that decade's great fur trading expedition.

There was a link posted on this car a few months ago from Ebay. The dealer had it listed at $30,000 with no bids. As I am from Canada, I called the dealer, and at that time wouldn't budge from their $30,000 price tag. $24,200 is the Xclean wholesale price for an '03 Marauder with 1000km, so it looks like the dealer finally realized that they needed to move this car for what it was actually worth. Welcome to the group, M131, from the frozen East. Awesome price, by the way. That's just a tick higher than what I paid for my 2nd MM with 24000 km on it. What's the PCM code on the front driver's door frame (beneath the A-pillar up front near the door hinges) - should be 4 letters and/or numbers (CRD0, CRD1, etc.)? Any idea of your build date? (you can get this from Oasis, or at least know the month/year based on the sticker at the back of the driver's door).
$24000 Can is now just around $20000 US.

Look, I know it's remarkable that somebody shows up claiming to have bought a "new untitled" Marauder from a dealer this late in the game. I had my doubts, too. But the city and dealer checks out, and it is possible... Serra Chevrolet up until recently had an '04 SSR still in their inventory.
So, I can accept his word on this.
What's so remarkable, however, is the dealer, who, at a tad under $21K for a new car took a major hit in the shorts on this car, considering other costs (floor plan, taxes, insurance coverages). It this car was up on autotrader or ebay it would have sold months ago, especially if they had let it go for that price.
Usually, cars with this kind of low mileage are garage queens that somebody thought would turn a profit a few years later. There's a guy trying to unload an '03 SSR with VIN #212 that has less than 100 miles on the odo. Then that '02 Prowler I posted up where the clock only showed 8 miles. Dealer cars... eh, that's kinda unusual.

What freaks me out is that I asked a dealer droid to check across Canada for a new one back in October and the only one that POS pulled out was the over-inflated 2004 Silver car from Manitoba that had 15000 km on it and they were asking $40000 CAN for it (never 'sold', ooh aah! ). And they wonder why dealers get so mistreated.
I even gave them a second chance hours before I decided on my second MM, this time with a little more leeway in the mileage department... again, they coughed up a 35000 km MM for $35000 CAN. (how does that go again... oh yeah: Ooh Aah! ).
Proves one thing: greed will eventually come back to bite you. Ford of Canada for pricing this thing so selfishly when brand new, the dealers for seeing dollar signs where there are none to be found.
(my saleslady saw the writing on the wall back in March 2003, God bless her, with my MM#1 sitting in their showroom for 1 whole month before they figured out they had to move this car and FAST... the price they presented to me was unbeatable no matter who I subsequently called)

Holy Bat Poop, Sgt. Preston. If I had known you were that funny I would have sent the Mufflers Free. thanks for the laughs, Steve. Dennis
PS: curl up with the dogs and stay warm.

You would think so wouldn't you Donny. I suspect though that the dealer who still had them just wasn't budging on price, still.
The problem for my dealer was he'd have to buy, then turn around and sell, but the price to pull it off was still too high from the dealer who has the MMs, and all Ford incentives on the car have long ended.

Can you get the VINs on these, please???
I can ask but I doubt he kept the info as he didn't get them.
If you have access to Ford's system and they still haven't been sold you might turn them up.

I only have access to Ford's OASIS database. The vehicle locate system is part of the sales job plus I don't have any contacts to try to find any leftovers. I hope that you can help.

Interesting... any idea what the numbers were? They don't exactly fall from trees up here in Quebec.
For the metric thing: have a look at the gauges in the pod and you'll see they are different as well.

I didn't get a plate number, sorry. If it shows up again at the Tower shops, I'll invite the owner to join us. As for the pod guages, they look cool. Maybe Fast Ed know the part numbers.

I purchased a new 1995 Mustang GTS in February of 1998 so it is possible but rare.
Yours is one of 6370. I had a Lazer Red w/ black interior & 5 speed. My GTS also had the power window, locks group.

Thanks for the odometer. And congrats, I'm sure she is a beut. Since it didn't take too long to get the picture of the odometer, how about the rest of it? I'm sure there are plenty of us that would like reminisce about what an interior and exterior so new, looks like.
Welcome to the boards!

Yes, I was very fortunate to come across such a car. When they were initially released, the cost would have been prohibitive for me.

Looks like you're gonna need some snow shoes for your baby. I wouldn't want to drive around with the factory wheels/tires in the snow. Check out some of the snow tire threads for ideas.
