Has anybody had any experience towing boats or small trailers with the MM. Just curious if anybody has had trouble towing, trouble with transmission, or anything else affected by towing. Anybody know what the weight limit not to exceed if towing a boat or trailer?

The book says 2000 lbs. Some people feel it can do a lot more. There was quite a bit of discussion on it. I tow a single enclosed bike trailer 1500 lbs loaded. No problems at a steady 80-85. I have not tried it with the 3.73's yet but it should be even better. It is great to have the air system when towing.
Other people are towing much more.
Do a quick search, lots of members have posted about how easy it is to tow with the Marauder.

Holy crap thats gota be alot of weight!
These have the same tranny's as my 5.0 exploder did and it had a 7000k rating. I think the problem you run into is the rear suspension, and the uni-body design

I dont care who you are..thats funny!

I tow a small utlity trailer (sometimes larger with not much weight) As the
previous replies stated Ford says 2k --you can go more but you need to
watch the tounge weight as the air shock susp is a factor. I went with a
class 3 hitch especially considering the problem police cr vics had with rear-
end collision exploding gas tanks
Hey, it looks like the Tower and Towee have the same paint code number. :D

I know people don't have all the money in the world to buy a separate vehicle to tow, but the thought of towing with the maruader makes me cry... eeek! :bigcry:
I'm sure it tows nicely though - especially with a trilogy kit

With no physical changes to platform design, F/L/M suddenly said "no towing over 2000 Lb. Guess they wanted more push towards SUVs for those concerned with towing. Yes, we had some spirited discussions on the topic, and my only conccern was that the presence of a Class III hitch was tell-tale, and may have developed into a voided warranty. Now that many of us are out of warranty, go for it.

How about dual '03s, but a century apart?

There's something about seeing a sports car towing a trailer just does my heart good. For you guys that don't have much experience towing things. I recommend a full sized trunk, the bigger the better. I am not sure why an explorere would be rated so high compared to the Marauder. I took my parents Explorer down to Uhaul a while back and they wouldn't allow any trailer to be hooked up to one. That when I had an Expedition. Man I miss that ol beast. Anyways, lower gears mean alot when towing big stuff. Oil coolers, radiators, axle bearings, transmission coolers, frame strength, and weight geometry become more critical when you start towing the big stuff. Its probably a liablity issue is my guess, but really, an Explorer is better suited for towing.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a used truck cheap so i had to put a hitch on my MM. I have hauled quite a bit with it and have had no trouble.

U-Haul is just afraid of getting nailed with a lawsuit if some numbskull rolls his Explorer while towing their trailer.
I towed my son's race car (quarter midget) trailer with Explorers, both V-6 and V-8. No problem whatsoever.

Nice TransAm. :coolman: I can just feel the heat filling my heart. I just bought a TransAm slot car of ebay that was labeled smokey and the bandit car. I wonder if I could get a hitch on that slot car... ANyways, I have a buddy that is into trains and he is really into these motor car things. There's a guy on the forum he visits that uses a new Corvette to haul this motor car. He'll even let the air out of his run flats and drive it down the train track. I think that for what a new Corvette costs and cost to insure, a seperate car and truck could easily be bought, and customise some too while your at it. I'll see if I can't find a link.

I like to see sports cars hauling things on trailers. I just like it. Here's a pic off my buddies list. There are these people like my buddy who like to go out on train tracks and drive these things here called motorcars. They are used by railroads for maintainence I believe, then they get old and these guys buy them, restore them, and get together and drive them (with premission and knowledge of the tracks owners). They say its real fun, I can't say I have had the oportunity yet. I was just playing with my train around the tree the other day and I realized how boring it was. I would rather go turn a wrench or post silly pictures on the net. Anyways, this is off the Corvette forum. Here is the link.

I was thinking about this for a long time, how to get an RV and bring a car along with it.
I thought maybe a Class A RV with a Trailer for the car would do the trick, but then you have to drive the big RV around and they are quite expensive.
Thought maybe a Uprated Toy trailer with a big pickup would be nice but it is just too heavy, although the new superduty F350 might work for that. Although it severely limits your trailer living space.
Then I thought about a getting a Flatbed Towing truck (to put the car on) and a RV trailer towed behind it. It would work and would be rather effective and affordable. Although you would need to be able to drive the flatbed.
Then I looked up the little pop up tent trailers. For 2000Lbs, you could tow something fairly nice, for warm weather. Dirty cheap and all the comfort a Marauder full of people could need, for a little while. You wouldn't want to live in it; although with a starlight plastic coating it would be plenty warm. For security when you're not around you could fold it up and lock it down. Might not be so bad after all.
But if your are going to be towing a big boat, or cars or such, get either a F650 or F350 super duty.

Well, I have towed with Panthers for years... Nice class 4 hitch, a brake controller and a wiring plug...landscape trailers, utility trailers, car hauling trailers, U haul vans, U haul dollies...all go with ease... Biggest load I can remember was a Carhauler trailer with a 3/4 ton IHC 4wd pickup and plow with the bed full of used batteries. Off to the scrapyard... probably grossed about 12000 altogether...Panthers are strong puppies...Up until 2003 there were are adjustable shocks available for heavy tongue loads, now with the outboard shock placement there is no room... so you have to use equalizer bars to keep the rear from dragging...also not a problem.. Happy towing...don't go faster than your brakes will allow....

From what I remember when working at FORD the difference in towing weight was due to the rear air suspension. In CV and GMs without air suspension the towing capacity was more.

Trailer Boats magazine picked the CV as "Tow Vehicle of the Year" at least twice since the eighties. In 91, the CV was rated to tow 5000 pounds. My biggest fear of towing something heavy with the MM would be damaging those rear air bags.
