Well I was driving home tonight from a long day at work in Manhattan and I was cruising on the Southern State when I finally caught some open rode and punched it. As soon as I hit it, I see a pair of HID's in my rear and kinda on my ass. I did a quick lane switch and let it pass me and notice the "V" logo on the rear of a CTS. So then I quickly slam back on the gas as we are about door to door I pull away. After a few lane changes and hitting speeds of close to 100mph, he kept up but was unable to make a pass. Pretty even. But the best part was that I saw another car in front of us weaving in and out of traffic. As we quickly approached, I saw another emblem. This one was the SRT-8 badge of a Magnum. He must have been surprised to see a Big Black Marauder on one side and a silver CTS-V on the other side. Needless to say him and his hemi didnt try to compete. As we approached some oncoming traffic, we pulled side by side and gave each other a big thumbs up and he told me my beast sounded great. It was just the thing to give me a second wind on the ride home.

I'm sure I've read elsewhere on this board that a Marauder will not keep up with a CTS-V. Thanks for proving them wrong!

Why does this sorta remind me of the Snoopy vs Red baron christmas dog fight? Remember, Red Baron spared Snoopy with a wave and a "Merry x-mas"??

Pretty cool having a MM, SRT-8 and CTS-V across three lanes of traffic like that.

I can officially say he wasn't trying.

I've owned a CTS-V and multiple Marauders. CTS-V would slaughter Marauder under those conditions. He was just playing with you.

Not everyone's out there to drag race on the highway.

sigh...

Unless the Marauder in questions runs 13 second 1/4 mile times or better, I'm going to say the CTS-V wasn't trying.

I've driven a CTS-V, on the street and on the track. While I didn't get the car's best time (not my car, I'm not going to take it to the limit and risk breaking it), I did equal my WS6s best time on the same track, with no effort whatsoever on my part. And the owner, putting a little more effort into keeping the IRS rear end from hopping across 2 area codes on a hard launch, was in the 13.0s and we all felt a slightly cooler evening run would have maybe given him his 12.99 he was so desperate for.

For perspective: stock CTS-V 0-60s are in the 4.6 second region. A stock regular 6 cylinder CTS matches the stock Marauder's quoted performance numbers. And the CTS-V tops out at upwards of 160 mph, and I know the LS6 does not lack steam up top.

MTAMERC9, I apologize if this seems I am taking away from your legitimate experience, because that is not my intent. Whatever the situation was (the "V" guy not pushing at 100%, fake "V" with owner-installed badges, etc.), you stayed out ahead and that's what counted. But it's stuff like what I quoted above that seems so borderline twilight zone-ish that it merits a spotlight. Along the same lines, we might as well all rejoice in the fact that I outran a Viper last week with my bone stock second Marauder (I did, actually...).

as you said...maybe he was babying his expencive vehicle. I will say CTS without the "-V" is slower than the MM :) does tha sill count?

My father has a CTS-V as his daily driver, except for winter, and we've both done some local challenging with eachother when meeting up for dinner and so on. Not to mention I've had my share of spirited runs with that car, too...

Don't think for a second I believe your story, no one should. He was not trying. He must have been too overwhelmed with laughter that YOU were trying against him.

Sorry bud, fun while it lasted?

That last part might not necessarily be the case all the time.

Not everyone considers being first as the ultimate goal when meeting other high performance machinery on the roads. Many times I will hang just behind a car and to the side when I want to study the car a bit, maybe hear the exhaust, see the way it holds the road, the poise, etc. Today's high perf vehicles are in the league of the exotics of 20 years ago, and to use everything a new performance vehicle is packing is a big deal. A lot of times when following a ricer trying to show off, I will simply match his speed mph for mph for as long as I consider it safe or until my wife notices... letting it all hang out side-by-side would simply bring out the riot act.

I hear the SRT-8 is no slouch either. The Marauder in this case better be supercharged.

Right. Exactly. Point being, if the CTS-V really wanted to make a point and go bye-bye... It would've had no problem doing so.

Well here in NY people enjoy swapping badges. I have a seen a few Lexus GS 300's with GS 400 badges. I have seen my share of V-6 mustangs made up to look like GT's. Just recently at a car show, I seen a Magnum with SRT-8 badges on it, but Yes a V-6 under the Hood. I even owned a 67 Pontiac Tempest but Badged like a GTO and only the VIN would have given it away.
Very Likely a "Clone" CTS-V is what took the bait and raced, a True CTS-V would have smoked even a heavy modded N/A Marauder without a doubt.

400hp LS-2 in a lightweight CTS. According to Motor Trend it pulled 13.1's in the 1/4

Yep... 400hp with a 6 speed....IRS sucks beans, but other than that it's a great little car...

I'm enjoying the Mustang and the Harley Truck alot more though...

Well if it was an 04 it would have an LS6, but either way they are very impressive.

was the inside of the car better than the regular cts? I felt our leather seats were better ;) They reminded me of the stiff cloth seats in my 6.

Well I just got in and got to reading all of the replys saying how the CTS-V was probably babying it and would have toast me. I am not disagreeing at all with that point. But all I know is that it was a TRUE CTS-V. From the ground fx, the rims and tires, the exaust, etc....no person would spend all that money on mods like that. You might as well buy the real thing. Second, when I let him by me to catch a glimpse of his car, I pulled even, gave a look, and we both hit it. I pulled ahead and was able to FEND him off perhaps and not let him get the pass. He indeed was on my ass and looked like he had no prob keeping up but I held him off. At least he played...unlike the SRT-8. For me it was an exciting experience to just have another car even try to have some fun. Most of the time people get scared b/c of the undercover look of our cars or the mean exaust. TRUST ME....I know I need me a supercharger if I want to hang with some of you big boys on here.

PS. I too looked into and drove the CTS-V and know it is a beast and IS faster than a pretty much stock Marauder. It could have been just the driver I beat and not the car....who cares....it was fun for me and put a smile on my face.:burnout:

AMEN!!!

While I'd be skeptical of a 0-60 kill, a rolling Marauder is a pretty powerful machine... with the goodies you have, I'd say none of us can be certain you didn't beat the CTS-V. (Maybe it's driver was too lazy to drop a few gears.) having owned both, I'd think Logan would know best... but I think we're a bit quick to equate a quick 0-60 time with a quick 60 - 100 time... and we know the 0 - 60 event isn't the best for a 4-valve slushbox.

Keep smilin'... that's why we own them!

I knew I had something I wanted to post this morning...

Last night I met up with the owner of the CTS-V I described above, at a brithday party. I related what we had discussed. He confirmed that it's very common to see CTS owners go the full 9 yards when it comes to cloning (appearance wise) a real CTS-V. According to him, some even go so far as to change out the front spindles to be able to use the CTS-V specific wheels. Grilles are changed and some go to the point of getting a new bumper to accomodate the specific lower grilles.

My friend mentioned there was a guy up the street from him who has a buddy that occasionally stops by his house with his CTS and everytime my friend sees that car in that driveway, the car is progressively more and more "V"ed than previously. Apparently, it's an ego thing in this case because he ran across the owner at a dealership when both the cars were in for service: the service rep called for the CTS-V owner before noticing where my friend was sitting and immediately went over to him, since I guess the rep knew which of the CTS's was a real "V". Supposedly the other guy looked miffed. Sad.

Think of it like this, The Caddy owner just didn't have the nerve to run flat out against the menacing looks of a Marauder.
