This idea was floated in this Mviv thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?p=330913#post33 0913) regarding the Sebring event ocurring in Florida. The dates are April 21 - 22- 23 2006. Original thread here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?p=330832#post33 0832).

This thread is to bring this event and idea together. Are there any Sunshine State members willing to pick up the torch on this?

Here are the Sebring details from post #1 by fast-eddieeeee:

Want to run your Marauder at 140mph for hours without a ticket?

<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I have a need for speed and this one does it for me. This is not racing. It is all about improving your skills and learning about what that car can really do. If you don't want to run your car but want to watch, spectating is free and there is typically a car show with tropheys. :pimp:

I help run this event in April at Sebring here in Florida. All Ford and Ford powered products welcome (that means Marauders, we even have a few Jags and a Crown Vic rental car show up). Driving school on Saturday, first class dinner with raffles and prizes on Saturday night, then more open track for beginners (instructor in car with you at all times) and track dogs (that would be the instructors) run seperately Sunday. Must be 18 years old or older, have valid drivers license and insurance.

Sebring is 3.5 mile road course. Stretch the legs of that beast till you get bored. Be as hard or as easy on the car as you want. This is not racing, it is driving at speed, your speed with experienced and licensed racing instructor at all times, no tickets or radar. You will get hours of track time. I normally burn through 20 gallons of premium on Sunday.

See http://www.svtoa-centralflorida.com/multimedia.html (http://www.svtoa-centralflorida.com/multimedia.html) for some video and slideshows.

The registration will post at http://www.tampabaysvtoa.com/modules...&threadid=2055 (http://www.tampabaysvtoa.com/modules...&threadid=2055)

From the Tampa Bay SVTOA hosts:
It's here again! The event you've been waiting for! Two full days of driving, learning and FUN, FUN, FUN! You will not only have the chance to fine hone your driving skills, but you'll also have a unique opportunity to find out what went into the creation of your vehicle by visiting with one of the SVT Engineers who will be on site. Come out to Sebring International Raceway with SVTOA, SVT and Ford too let us help put you and your vehicle to the test. Bring your friends, you won't want to miss this!

SVTOA's Lead Driving Instructor, Jeff Lacina Instructor provides a comprehensive ground school along with the many tuned instructor's

Tentative Schedule of Activities:

To be anounced

Sponsoring SVTOA Chapters:
Tampa Bay SVTOA - South Florida - Ft. Myers - Central Florida - Atlanta -Miami - Treasure Coast - New Orleans

This sounds like a great time.

I plan on attending as long as the cost is reasonable.
I wonder if this event is in conjunction with the 24 hours of Sebring?
If so, accomodations may be a problem.
I'll do some hotel research and get back to y'all.

I found an interesting hotel that has availability at this time for the 21st and 22nd.
http://www.kenlodge.com/groups.html
Rates look reasonable, and it looks like it has some character.
If I get 10 people to commit (as much as anybody commits around here:D ), I will contact the hotel for a group rate and, if you want, a banquet room.
I am not familiar what all entailed the past Maraudervilles, so enlighten me?

What are the odds....:depress:

I don't cruise in over a year as a result of the latest financial pinch...and Jessy pops the ultimate 40th birthday present on me last week.

10 day deep caribbean. 4-17 / 4-27. :shake:

This thread is by no means anything official. Infact, I encourage anyone with other ideas, such as Atlanta, Vagas, Woodward again, etc... to post up new threads with suggestions to guage interest.

Marauderville @ FFW Atlanta... @ Vagas... where ever, but this thing needs to get going.

Thats going to be an awsome cruise. Lisa and I are way overdue!

Well I took the plunge and reserved a "cottage" at this lodge for the 21 and 22, 71 bucks a night. Even if this isn't the site of Marauderville IV I think it will be fun to get on such a historic racetrack.
Besides, the 22nd is my 50th birthday...
Anyone else want to join in?

Jimlam, I called the lodge this afternoon and they quoted me 99 for a cottage, 119 for suite and 134 for an apartment for those dates. Thought I might join your birthday party. Did you or someone arrange special pricing? If so what is the group name. Weekend at Sebring and track time sounds great to me. Any info would be helpful. Thanks Dennis:)

Sebring is about 80 miles from the beach, 70 miles from Disney. The closest attraction is Cypress Gardens, about 20 miles away.
www.cypressgardens.com (http://www.cypressgardens.com/)
More about Sebring here.
www.sebringflchamber.com (http://www.sebringflchamber.com/) I noticed in their events calender there is a cruise-in once a month with a phone number, I bet if we called we could coordinate something with them. Also a golf tournament on the 22nd... April/May is the dry season in Florida, but no guarantees from me! There's more than a few antique shops in the area, and the everpresent MALL. Also the best Bass fishing in the country around there, and just the right time of year too.
Bok tower is a short way away:www.boksanctuary.org (http://www.boksanctuary.org/), a cool garden with a lot of history, the largest carrilon in the world I believe (singing tower) plus a world class restaurant.
Sebring is where they host the 24 Hours of Sebring, more info here.www.sebringraceway.com (http://www.sebringraceway.com/).
Cool hotel here. www.kenlodge.com (http://www.kenlodge.com/) Looks like they hosted a few car shows before. I booked a cottage for 72 bucks a night.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Well I just talked to the sales manager at Kennilworth Lodge. She only has 10 rooms left for those dates. I have a call in to the Holiday Inn Express, will update as I have more info.
I also want to empasize that I am not inferring that this will be MMIV until Logan says so, and that all actions I've taken to this point are mine, not ssm's.
The SVTOA event that fasteddieee referred to is going on whether we come or not. I want to be part of that event no matter what, and anyone else that wants to will be welcome by SVTOA, from all indications I've heard.
But keep in mind that this is a big deal, with SVTOA spending around 30k for the event. Once we learn what the track time cost is, you gotta move cuz the event sells out...

Hey boys and girls, click on jimlam's original post mention of the hotel link and take a look. the place is..impressive, well; take a look. If we get a bunch of Marauder drivers in one place and can't have fun..well shame on us. Mac and Zack are coming down!!! Charlie is coming down to protect us from Defyantwife. What more do we need. MI2QWK4U sounds in, yikes. I wouldn't miss this if I have to walk to Sebring. Oh, Lisa, no Babe Ruth bars in the pool! Penny and I are in one of their apartments. Only a smoking Cottage left. We will have an extra sofa bed if anyone needs to crash.

OK, I need a good bargain priced brain bucket and a supply of depends. The depends I can handle, any recommendations for the hat? Thanks Dennis:burnout:

Yep Jim is correct. Spectators are free but must sign waivers with SVTOA events coordinator when entering area. Then roam the facility. Walk in the pits. Sit in the grand stands, very nice stands at that. Covered and arm rests.

This event sells out each year. So this is an early heads up for SSM. I'm signed up of course and I've saved a few spots for my Marauder buddies.

I sent some info to Logan if considering MVIV. I have check with the event chair and he said "Car Show would not be a problem, but will require folks to preregister to make sure tropheys for winners in classes." We could accomodate something if we start working on it now. There are also two great drag strips within reasonable driving distance (1 to 1.5 hr max). Bradenton is open Thursday night to public and Moroso is open both Thursday and Friday night that week. I checked both their schedules. Disney is up the road, everglade to the south (see gators and snakes), and both the Gulf Beaches and Atlantic Beaches are close (Marco Island is really nice and so is Ft. Myers and Sanibel Island. The Edison museum is near (see where Henry Ford, Firestone and Edison invented rubber for car tires) with a great tour of the Edison old winter house, workshop and other low key wonders. Then there is Bok Tower, Cypress Gardens, Seaworld, Universal Studios, Oh Disney is just 1.5 hrs or less to the north. The hotels in Sebring are 1/2 to 1/3 the price per night.

Hotels are of two variety in Sebring. First is old world charm B&B kind of places. This is a historic city. On the newer side of town is you other chain places (not as charming or full of history like Kennelworths for example, but meets the need).

I'd try http://www.visitflorida.com/destinations/accommodations.php/ca=46

Got my reservations for the Kenilworth too, but if this continues to grow in popularity, we need to seek out another hotel so we can hang together?
As of 5pm est today there were still rooms available at the Kenilworth via their website.
Holiday Inn Express reported at least 15 rooms as of yesterday.
There's lots of hotels in the area, just google Sebring FL.
No Ritz-Carltons though, sorry Defyantwife...:D

I can order our dash plaques when someone says "go".

The usual crap, just need a tag line. "Marauders eat Sebring", or, something on that order. The "over 100 for an hour" is a waste of brag, Zack and I will do that just getting there. But, I can reserve it if you like.

My phone line is open at 312.401.1396 and my operator is on duty 24/7 on dash plaques (which always find their way under our hoods...Go figure?)

Once again, "snooze, and you lose."

Not that anyone should care what I do either Way, I just wanted to put that out there.

I booked for the Kenilworth for the 20th-22nd (checking out the morning of the 23rd)! I selected a cottage thinking there would be parking right outside. (hope so)

Now I definitely have a drop-dead date to have my car back on the road!

Now to go back and figure out what else I have to sign up for.

whoo hoo!

Getaway: Wannabe auto racers can take a spin at Sebring<!-- AAAD TITLE END -->
<!-- AAAD AUTHOR START -->Jay Clarke<!-- AAAD AUTHOR END --> - <!-- AAAD SOURCE START -->United Press Syndicate<!-- AAAD SOURCE END -->
Wednesday, January 11, 2006

<!-- AAAD TEXT START -->Sebring, Fla. --- Every March, this small Central Florida town becomes a household word all over the world. That will happen again this year when the 54th annual 12 Hours of Sebring automobile race takes place.
The famous race, America's greatest sports car endurance competition, brings thousands of spectators for the March 15-18 classic, filling the 3.7-mile track's infield with spectators and RVs, and sending prices at the elegant trackside Chateau Elan hotel to as high as $500 a night.
But there's much more to the Sebring track than this single racing event. The roar of high-powered cars flying around the track at speeds up to 200 miles an hour can be heard here throughout the year.
Two schools teach race wannabes and thrill-seekers the art of racing year-round, and another major race event, the Historic Fall Classic, draws more than 300 competing cars in October.
The track is also used as a training and testing ground for teams practicing for such famous competitions as the Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans races.
While the Sebring Raceway has been a going concern since 1952, it really got a shot in the arm when nicotine-patch manufacturer Don Panoz bought the track in 1997 and transformed it into a state-of-the-art raceway. He constructed a mile-long pit row and garage area with elevated viewing and hospitality suites. He built a new 1.5-mile FT road course, set up his Panoz Racing School and built the 81-room Chateau Elan trackside. (Panoz also built Chateau Elan Winery and Resort in Braselton, Ga.)
Today, fans can watch the races not only from the paddock and general admission areas, but also from suites at the Chateau Elan or from hospitality suites above pit row. Admission to the 12 Hours of Sebring ranges from $70 general admission to $500 for seating in Club Sebring, and parking costs from $10 general parking to $900 for a prestige spot on Ulmann Straight.
At other times of the year, the track welcomes guests who want to watch team training (except when the teams specify privacy) or who sign up in one of the two racing schools, Panoz and Skip Barber.
Several regimens are offered by the schools, including sessions on clutching, downshifting, braking, cornering and other aspects of racing, before students are allowed to run solo at high speeds on the track. Three-day sessions run around $3,000.
From the thumping excitement of car racing to the quiet beauty of nature seems like a long leap, but in Sebring it's just a short drive from the track to Highlands Hammock State Park, one of Florida's first preserves.
Created in the 1930s, this park is one of the few locales in Florida with both virgin hardwood and sabal palm forests. Probably the most popular site, according to park manager Peter Anderson, is the Cypress Swamp Trail, whose boardwalk passes over eerily quiet waters surrounded by tall cypress trees.
Other trails take visitors to a 1,000-year-old oak, a sour orange grove and a fern garden. Alligators, deer and armadillos are often sighted. Of nostalgic interest is the park's CCC Museum, housed in a building the Civilian Conservation Corps built in the 1930s.
In winter, the park schedules nature walks, a variety of ranger activities and Saturday night campfire programs, as well as year-around guided tram tours. The park also has a campground with 138 sites and lots of roaming armadillos.
A newer attraction is the Kegel Training Center, home of nationally televised bowling tournaments and where teams from foreign countries practice in the hope of making bowling an Olympic sport.
Even before Highlands Hammock was founded, though, Sebring was a thriving winter resort. In the 1920s it had nine major resort hotels, one of them the Kenilworth Lodge and Harder Hall. The grand old Kenilworth, recently refurbished, is still going strong. Harder Hall is undergoing a complete renovation after being closed for some years.
Meanwhile, Sebring's downtown centers on the circle George E. Sebring designed in 1911 as the focus of the town he founded. There are such shops as Gifts From the Past, which features such old-time items as a 4-foot-tall Betty Boop doll, as well as several restaurants, a pottery shop and clothing store.
Close to Sebring is another interesting small town, Lake Placid, whose downtown has 31 well-executed wall murals. It also has a citrus tower, and the town boasts itself as the Caladium Capital of the World. Every August and September, caladium fields around the town become seas of color. <TT>IF YOU GO
Getting there
> Flying: Orlando is a convenient airport to Sebring, about 85 miles away; expect to pay round-trip airfare of about $160.
> Driving: Sebring is about 500 miles from downtown Atlanta, about an eight-hour drive. Take I-75 South onto I-475 South/Ga. 408 South then merge back onto I-75 South and follow it to Florida's Turnpike South toward Orlando; then merge onto U.S. 27 South, take Southeast Lakeview Drive, then onto Fla. 17/South Ridgewood Drive.

Eric, I know. My speed hat is in my gallery pics. Sebring is about just around the corner from us all here in Fl. You need to get out more, man. I am expecting to see you there. You know you can just drive over Saturday morning and hang at the track and for a little BBQ or what ever. No need to turn it into the Louis and Clark Expedition if you have other stuff on the plate. It would be good to see you and it WILL be fun. dennis:D

Because of the Lake Effect?:D

Unfortunately the snow machine has been off since before Christmas. We did get around 35-40" of snow in the first 3 weeks of december though. Unseasonably warm temps have made this a horrible winter. It should be 19 degrees, we should have a foot on the ground, and a foot on the way. The lake has no ice on it at all...so there's still hope for more snow.

Okay, I don't quite get how the track time will be managed...will there be a schedule or will we all be out there at the same time? An instructor will be with you at all times? Is there even enough instructors to go around? Won't they get bored riding with us for hours?

To keep Sebring on track, I'm going to soft delete posts regarding MVIV in other locations. Start another thread if you have a plan to offer to Logan on a location. Maybe Sebring is still under consideration, but time is of essence and anyone thinking about attending, regardless of what it's called, needs to make hotel reservations ASAP so we can all stay together. Thanks Jim!!

I will be arriving on Thursday the 20th as I like to go see stuff and enjoy the surroundings. I call it, "seeing a slice of America". That's why I drive and don't fly. You miss everything flying.

I'm going to stop in at Todd's on the way down as well. I got to discuss some changes to my exhaust with him.

So, if anyone wants to show up early, I'll open the hospitality suite!

What do I sign up for?

John, the car show is 10 bucks and registration is at the door, as I read the info. There also is no charge for spectators. I'm sure they will welcome walkup volunteers. You might want to sign up for the banquet though.

I'm not sure I understand what signing up for the PIT is? Is this only if you Drive too? If so, I don't want to take up a spot just to show off the car for someone who needs it while racing... (just being courteous)

1. I want to be in the car show area

2. I want to go to the banquet

3. I want to do the Friday dinner.

4. I will still volunteer to help if they need me. I'll be there a day early.

Thanks for the help!!

1. Don't sign up for a pit if you do not register to drive. The pits are for area to park car and work on it should it break. Please save for drivers.

2. You can sign up for dinner that is saturday night on site. Typically a speaker of some fame is there. Last year it was jay oconnell. Carved roast beef buffet kind of thing. Raffles for prizes. All proceeds from games and raffles go to a charity yet to be named. Last year it was over $3,000 to big brothers/big sisters. This sells out early. You can come, do car show, do dinner, and spend two days watching for $32. If you're a couple it is $54 since being there is free. $10 for car show and $44 for dinner. Or come watch, do dinner by yourself and it is $22.

3. Spectating is free but you must sign waivers in the lobby of the hotel on site as you drive in. Everyone can wonder to anyplace. Pits, towers seating above the pits (covered, very good vantage point, breeze, seating with armrests, bathrooms, very nice place for the ladies and a nap).

And see a race at end of day with the American V8 Club. It is one of their session points races.

4. Car show is sign up day of. It is $10 and tropheys are awarded. This is a large facility so the show can get as big as it needs to. Be aware it is normally done in the grass someplace.

5. Volunteer please. We have lots of stuff we can use help with. Running water to other workers, setting up cones, tech inspection (do you know how to work a torque wrench and check lug nuts?), judging in car show, help with traffic flow, helmet check-in and out, and the list goes on. Come Friday afternoon to hotel and help with setup and meet the core guys who run this. See me, Ed Boyd or Ed Zerbe if you volunteer. You don't have to sign up to drive if you use the online registration site. You can go there and voluteer and sign up for dinner for two or three or whatever.

6. We also have talked about parade laps to benefit charity. In otherwords you would drive track at noon for a couple of controlled speed limited laps (highway speeds) for a donation. You would be required to sign a special waiver but would not need helmet and would get a personal view of the entire course. I did this at Daytona last week. Way cool!

7. Bring your ballzzzz. Not sure who is coming with cars but Steeda has been known to be there and bring all their cars. And offer rides to the daring for free. Got to sign the waiver. I did this and it scared the @$#^ out of me riding in their 00' Cobra R. Not sure who is going to be there.

8. For those driving. This is not a race. It is rare that anyone bumps their car. No passing zones is the rule and passing is only allowed if the driver in front signals to go ahead. It is more like follow the leader, at your speed, your comfort level, with others at your skill level, with an instructor in your car at all times to guide you and improve your driving skills. This is a way cool event to learn about you and your car's abilities. And it includes some ground school with exercises and lectures for all.

9. If you wreck your car it is because you pushed you or the car. My wife drove around at 70mph her first few times out. Nobody got mad or complained. By the end of the day she was doing 100mph on the straights and mid to high speed in some twisty turns. Smile ear to ear. She never did anything like this before and hasn't since. But is willing to talk about it over a beer anytime and the smile comes back.

10. See the top right picture in my signature. That isn't me driving or riding. That is Mary in "her mustang" driving at one of these events. We did the family plan and shared the car. For just a few bucks extra you can provide your wife, sister, son, daughter, father, mother, friend next door, other club member a chance to drive your car. That is what the family plan is. So if your wife is coming, buy the plan just in case she wants to try it. Yep, it was a mistake. I thought she would go out once. We ran the car out of gas twice and she wouldn't shut up for two weeks. She kept that silly arm band on till it feel off and stuck it everyone's face for weeks laughing and drinking beer. Thats why I love this women so much but she isn't invited this time.:mad2:

Here is a link to slideshow of all the fun last year. http://www.svtoa-centralflorida.com/multimedia.html

11. You can bring a grill and have picnic in "playground" area. Swings and picnic tables. It is right next to track so you can see the action also.

12. This event is normally a sell out. If you are coming don't wait too long to sign up. It is rare, but I've seen one or two spots open the day of due to cancels or no shows. So if you hem and haw till the week of, still comeout prepared but it will cost you more. When this sells out it will be posted.

Let me know if you have other questions.

As it stands right now ...

We will be arriving on Friday & staying at the Kenlodge.

Without trying to wade thru pages & pages here .....

Is there anything else I need to know ?.

Again I'm not going to drive - we will attend our dinner & perhaps the banquet as well, if others are.

Me & my wife should be attending.

I wont be driving, we're just going to get away for a few days & have some R&R.

I'm a bit confused about the banquet ...

So far I count 55 driving. I'm one of the 55. There is room for 130 max. So don't delay if you want to drive. I see folks from GA, LA, PA, MD, NY, NC and bunches from Florida.

Go to the registration link in previous post. Sign in / sign up. You will not regret this choice. This is a blast and pretty much all street cars.

You can sign up for banquet, volunteer (i'm the volunteer coordinator, I was volunteered, get it?), or sign up to drive. You don't have to sign up to drive if you don't want to.

Come out and watch for free.
Dinner with MM friends Friday night. Lost lake looks reasonable.
Do the car show $10. Shine her up and let people have a look.

I'll have Cobra and 300A with me. See post just below this one for details and links.

This is not racing. You can drive as hard or soft as you wish. You will be put in a run group that is your same level of skill.

See you at picnic sunday!:pimp:

Today I recieved this email:

First of all welcome to the 2006 SVTOA Sebring Sensation. This will be the first of several e-mails that will be sent out before the event in April. To introduce myself I am Ed Zerbe, or "edz" on most boards, I am also your chief registrar. This message is being sent to everyone, but I want to target those of you who have signed up for a pit stall. Rite now we have only 7 stalls left available, as registrations have been should I say brisk. What I need from you is a list of the folks that you want to have the stalls next to you, I am going to try to assign stalls in a way that will put you with your friends, family etc. in the same area. So get a list together and send it to me. Please use first and last names, as a list of first names may not be recognizable. You will get a return message that says that I am out of the office, and will be for a few days, however I will be working at home to get this done. Again welcome, and if you have any questions please let me know, and I will get you an answer.

If you want a pit, better hurry. If you have a pit, email me at Defyant@comcast.net. Or PM me. I'll forward a list of members to Ed so our pits are together.

Well first I would like to welcome each of you who has signed up for the Sebring event. You will have fun I guarantee it. If it’s your first time on a road course you will leave the event with new skills that you probably did not know you had. You will learn more about your car and yourself by the time Sunday comes by than you ever imagined. I know that you may have questions please feel free to contact me Ed Zerbe 561-381-7536 in the evenings. If you are thinking about what to do before the event, just have a good helmet SA not an M. Acceptable are SA95 or SA2000 or better. The most important thing about the car is the brakes. Stock brakes are fine, just make sure to replace the brake fluid before the event. Most of us Mustang drivers use Ford Dot 3 High performance fluid, cheap at your Ford or Mercury dealer. Please note that I said "replace" not just bleed. See you at Sebring.

Gents...I will not be attending this event. I must conserve my time away from work this year, and other events now developing have a stronger draw for me.

I have two "single-king" rooms on reserve (with 50.00 deposit on each) at the Kenilworth Lodge. My reservation is good until 21 March 2006, then they keep the deposit. If these arrangement can benefit anyone here, e-mail me at SergntMac@aol.com and we'll work out a transfer. On 20 March, I will cancel the rooms for a refund.

Y'all have a great time, maybe I'll see y'all elsewhere later in the year?

Anyone looking at the 12 hours @ Sebring-American LeMans Series race this weekend on Speed Channel? Leaders are running consistent 1:48 laps. Here is a good video of a 2:07 lap A GT3 Porsche video on the Sebring Track. (http://www.palmbeachmustangclub.com/v01/gallery/GT3RSatSebring.wmv) Good Track Information his Found Here (http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/FL/Sebring.html) Your gonna love it. When folks that come to watch get the slow paced laps at lunch, they are gonna kick themselves that they did not run. That is what happened to me 10 or so years ago. I came to watch, ended up on the track the next weekend, and been about 10 times a year since. Your first 15 or so times at Sebring you really do not notice the bumps, that is until you get the lap times below 3:00, and got close to a full race suspension.
