Well I guess I read everyones' posts here about every muffler and any other combination there of...:D
Finally took Olekidd's (SIC?) comments on the Ford "Dual-Mode" mufflers...
I was really afraid they would be way too loud...:(
Had them installed yesterday morning...(bought them from Dennis Reinhart)
I am really satisfied with the sound...
nice little rumble at idle, hardly noticable inside car...
nice low throaty sound up through the gears...just a little noticable inside the car.... not so loud as to interrupt conversation, but enough you notice it being there...will definitely bring a smile to a "car-nut" pasasenger's face...;)
WOT (Wide Open Throttle) is a whole nother story...
It's loud, but not loud like a lot of trucks that run "Flow Masters"....
That blap-blap-blap sound...
Just for the record I also run the resonator-LESS "megs"..."K&N Air-Charger...SCT Xcalibrator II....All of which I'm sure have some effect on the end result of the sound produced...
Well of course all of the above is "just another opinion", but I guess that's kinda what were all about here...
Hope this is useful information for someone...
Play safe out there,

How would you compare them to the stock mufflers in those scenarios you listed?
(ie. "nice little rumble at idle"... how would that stack up to the original exhaust note and volume? Didn't someone in another thread claim they were quieter than the stock mufflers at idle? Same for part throttle, etc...)
Thanks in advance.

They will get better with age.
Mine were stock and moderately run on the street. But after Lidio did his thing on the dyno and countless passes down the track at Milan, they were "seasoned" rather nicely.

Well let's see what I can describe....
Almost no sound at idle....
At slow acceleration you will hear the exhaust note behind you...probably twice as loud as stock....
At a slow cruse you will hear a louder note than with the stock, but not distracting or interfearing with conversation...
At the same slow cruse if you back the accelerator off slightly you will get a exhaust drone at the rear of the car...Not inside the car...out back...
anytime you let off you will get the drone...not a bad sound (to me) but definitly the exhaust is "backing off"...reminds me of the smooth sound sports cars make when you back off on them...no poping or cracking...
smooth....
As everyone here has said in the past... it's pretty hard to discribe a sound...
Hope this helps...

Glad to hear you got them and are enjoying the sound. I didn't run mine too long before replacing the stock tips with delete tips. They sound much better that way. I guess I should say, they are somewhat louder, and have a slightly deeper rumble.
There can't be too much wrong with anything that makes these things even more fun to drive.

Will they work well with the rest of the stock exhaust? Just wondering if I could add these to get a little more part and WOT sound with the rest of the stock exhaust. Then re-use them when I upgrade to the Kook's headers and custom piping from Lidio's exhaust guy?

Been running FRP's dual mode since...May or June(?) and really like them. The stock resonated tips are there too...deeper note at startup, nice drone at the
cruising speed, polite yet firm roar at WOT...shoulda been on the car at assembly....

Based on various PMs, it's looking like these mufflers on a stock Marauder will actually quieten the idle exhaust sound.
One more question: how do they compare to the stock mufflers in terms of dimensions? Specifically, I am curious about length, but width would be nice to know as well. (DOH! I'm sounding like some of my dates in University... )

Are you referring to the Dual Modes????

The Xcalibrator 2 by itself is a poorly made plastic toy that rattles. The tunes it carries is more important. There are aabout a dozen people and a few tuners who have already complained about the lack of quality in the X-Cal 2. The latest models ship out of SCT ready to fall apart (not even bolted together, or rattles).

Umbrellas from some umbrella manufacturers are poorly made. Some just fall apart under normal rain load. I'd suggest holding a newspaper over your head instead.

Yes, that's what many have indicated to me via PM. Hopefully the DM muffler dimensions will help me think of an alternative.

Running steady at 80 MPH...there is a distinctive drone at the rear of the car...not loud... but you definitley hear it....
Someone else asked about stock exhaust....I'm running stock exhaust with the Dual mode and Resenator LESS megs...
If and/or when I change over to headers and new pipes I coud re-uese the mufflers and megs.....
Oh and I always cover everything with newspaper....! (HUH?)

The Dual Mode are much smaller and the opening runs straight through and is offset to one side....They are just shy of 14" long and 10" wide x 4" deep (thick)....
An off-set pipe must be formed and installed to connect the rear of the muffler back to the existing rear portion of the exhaust pipe.
Hope this helps...

Wow. Excellent detail, thank you very much.
Does anyone know off hand how the factory stock mufflers are dimensioned?
