I saw several references to "Chrome Plating" and I don't think the tips we have are plated with anything.....especially not chrome!!:argue:
They are polished SS and do scratch easily but once you get the goo off of them you can polish them with Flitz or something similar.;)
I used "Goo Gone" solvent to get the tar and crap off of them and they look pretty good as is....but some polishing might help them....I'm just not that energetic to do the polishing thing!!

MarauderJack's right, I'd like to build on this.
I use GooGone for general cleaning of road grime and burnt tire stuff.
Then, I'll throw up a generous coat of Blue Magic and let it dry.
I'll come back with a 3/8" electric drill with a cotton buffer wheel, and it all comes off.
Don't quit too early, just keep working the tar-like residue off.
Then rinse with a vinegar soaked clean cotton cloth, buff to taste.
The first trreatment will be your toughest, but after that, hit the tips once a month, they'll look new forever.
Gar-run-teed.

I polish mine everytime that I wash my MM. Once they're dry, then I go over them with Never Dull, wait until it dries, then buff it off. Mine still look brand new.

I agree Goo Gone is the best way to clean them...I use a wheel brightner to give them a shine, spray it on a cloth and rub it in. Those babies will shine like your rims!

I agree, esp. with the "Blue Magic" As Elwood Blues would say, "Strong
stuff..."

I am not as high tech as the rest of the members. Once a month I do them with Brasso. Lot easier to use than chrome polish and I get the same effect with Brasso as I get with chrome polish. I also have a stainless steel sink in my kitchen and I use a product called Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish. My kitchen sink looks brand new each time I use it. The label says it can also be used on chrome, stainless steel and aluminum. Think I'll give it a try on the exhaust tips. Maybe I can even try a dirty spot on the engine to see how it cleans that too. If I try it I'll let you know how I make out.

I'll use bug & tar remover, never dull, chrome polish, and whatever else I have around that does polishing.

I use bug and tar remover, followed my a little Mother's. Works great.
Never Dull works the best and the fastest.

I use Brasso too. Works great but don't let it hit painted surfaces.
