My voltage guage fluctuates when I floor it. Do these things really not work?
Why isn't it something I could demand of my dealer to replace under warranty?

Is this the PCM turning off the charging function of the alternator?

jawz, only the oil pressure gauge is a fake...the voltmeter does work, and it's normal for the voltage to fluctuate at WOT; as /Steve indicated^^^, the PCM shuts off the alternator until you let up on it.
The dealer will NOT replace the gauges under warranty as they are working "as designed". What most of us have done is to replace the oil pressure gauge with the real working version (AutoMeter #4327) which is easily obtained from Jeg's, Summit, or your favourite local speed shop. The only reason to replace the voltmeter is if you need an exact cosmetic match to the replacement...the aftermarket faces are slightly different from the OEM, but they're almost identical in daylight. The real difference is at night: the OEM gauges are back-lit, the aftermarket ones are not. There's a "how-to" in the FAQ if you want to put the OEM faces on the aftermarket gauges.

I don't want to start complaining about something that's probably been complained about enough. Thanks for the advice.
I believe it had to have been the alt cutoff
