All,

I've done my searching here and come up with a number of answers to this question, but I wanted to put in one thread what the coolant choices for our cars is. I know one can hit the Ford dealer for coolant, but I also hear it's up to $20/gallon. (Depends on the dealer I know...)

Anyway, I'd be happy using the same coolant buoght from an auto parts store. I just wanted to know what coolant we have and what specific coolant brands and types at the autoparts stores works with what we already have. (i.e. it's fully mixable)

I need to pick some up for this weekend and would just assume pick some up at the parts store.

It depends on what your MM has. Earlier MMs had the traditional green coolant. Later MMs have the gold. List prices through your Ford-Lincoln/Mercury dealer:

green: 11.20
gold: 11.89

I'll stop by the dealer this week with the VIN and have them check it. If those are the dealer prices I'll buy there. I heard someone say their dealer tried to charge $22 a gallon...that was a bit steep!

Thanks!

Just don't mix them, not compatable. If you want to switch, a full flush out is advised.

^^^what Mac said^^^

Either one is acceptable, as long as you follow Mac's caveat; just DON'T use Dex-Cool... :nono:

OK I'm going to try and get what is listed for my VIN.

I'll also do a visual check. I'll be honest, I don't have the greatest eyes in this world, and telling Green and Gold may be a tad challenging...is the difference very obvious?

Yes, it is very easy to tell the difference. Good luck on the install and congrats on the s/c.
