Does anyone have info that our air filter FA-1745 (with the Marauder Only insignia) has been discontinued?

The reason I'm asking is if you search 2003 Marauder on www.motorcraft.com you get part number FA-1805?

Also I searched for 2003 Marauder at www.rockauto.com where I have ordered them in the past and once again part # FA-1805 comes up?

Did they improve ours or cheapen it?

Looks like the Motorcraft site is using a new database provider (Activant?)...and someone didn't merge the old and the new correctly...if you put in FA-1745, it comes back as belonging to the '03 CVPI...

Actually I'm going to be buying a replacement 03 Marauder air filter and the new part number also keeps popping up. So what is the scoop? Is there yet another part # for the Marauder air filter?

Just bought a Motorcraft Marauder airfilter - part # FA-1805; it IS labeled with MARAUDER USE ONLY.

I expect the "Marauder use only" to slip away, now that the CV and GM share the same induction path i.e., driver's side air box.

I have a spare K&N and a stock filter in my parts bin if anyone is interested. My car doesn't use these filters.

Make a contribution to the charity of my choice and they are yours. I will even cover shipping.

Send me a PM.

AFAIK the Panthers have always had the air box on the LH side. :cool4: I'm not sure what makes the Marauder filter "marauder only" but I haven't tried using my standard Vic filters in the Marauder airbox. The FA-1805 is about twice the cost of the FA-1032 (standard Panther filter? or was it 1035?), probably made with the best Mexican components possible.

AFAIK the Panthers have always had the air box on the LH side. Let me rephrase this..."a Marauder-like air induction assembly, including bellows".

I thought only the 04-up CVPIs used Marauder-style airboxes and 80mm MAFs (integrated with the upper airbox lids) along with the low restriction zip tubes? Wix lists the same filter for 03-up Vics and Marauders, 450 cfm. I haven't tried fitting a Vic filter into the Marauder airbox to see if the dimensions are the same. I do know the Marauder filters have a softer style seal (unless the new 1805s changed).

Standard filter specs:
Length: 11.269
Width: 7.568
Height: 1.835
CFM: 320
http://www.rockauto.com/ref/WIX/DetailWIX.htm?www.wixfilters.c om/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=46134

Marauder/04-up CVPI filter specs:
Length: 11.398
Width: 7.598
Height: 1.978
CFM: 450

http://www.rockauto.com/ref/WIX/DetailWIX.htm?www.wixfilters.c om/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=46

The Marauder filters appear to be slightly longer, wider, and taller. They also can flow more air. Well, that answers my question!

The 05-06 civilian Vics still appear to use FA-1032 (standard filter) according to the catalog.

Can't we just use the same stuff we used for the "lower grille mod" and get all the CFM's we need????? You may want to back it up with regular widow screening too !!!?????

I placed an order for the FA-1805 and received the FA-1745 filter. It's still a Mexican Mann filter. "It's a Mann, Man!"

The price has dropped quite a bit for the Marauder paper filter. BTW it is rated for about 100+ cfm of flow over the Crown Vic paper filter according to Wix's database.

Why not just use a K&N Drop In?

Charlie is correct - The 04+ p71 is what uses the Marauder-style air box, but with the new style MAF

92+ CV/GM/TC filters can be used in the Marauder airbox, and vice-versa a MM filter fits in the CV/GM/TC box fine.
The K&N filter is one for all the panther airboxes

The FA-1745 was superceded with the FA-1805
The FA-1805 is still "Marauder-only", but no longer has the rigid metal mesh on top. This will not effect performance/longevity of the filter. IIRC the metal mesh was decontented from the FA-1745 while still in production, but now the part number is FA-1805.

A air-filter is not a restriction in any panther airbox, so a K&N drop-in is not effective/does not increase performance - but does allow you to clean it instead of replace.
I prefer a new paper filter, myself

The quality of the K&N drop-in filters is rather inferior to the paper filters upon close inspection. :(
