I came across this site from another board that is planning a visit to this distillery. After looking at the website, I am suddenly in the mood for some fine Ky. bourbon. Check out this website, it is easy to navigate and think about visiting it as a regional meet for those in the area

That area is known for boutique distilleries. There are quite a few around Franklin County, some of them quite good.

I'd be interested in a meet. It's less than 200 Miles each way. Warmer weather would be better.

Boy, Dan(s) it must surely be a small production boutique distillery. I checked their, where to buy, tab, and they list zero places in Pa or Maryland. Not selling in PA is something of a surprise, since we have State run Liquor stores, which are the largest single volume buyer/seller of liquor in the nation. Um, except for the town where Teddy Kennedy lives. :D

I'd sure like to try some though.

Ah... Jim Bean is one of the distilleries listed on the tour! They make the best burbon/ whisky! Better than Jack Danniels! They also include Wild Turkey. My friend is obssed with Wild Turkey. He keeps mixing it with 151 and man is it strong. One shot of that and you're good! You will definietely want soda or something else with that to make it go down easy! Good times, good times....

Mike they have it in Pa. Don't use the zip search. Select city/state search. Alllentown, Bala Cynwyd, PGH, Exton, Easton, Lancaster, Lansdale, KoP, and Philly to name a few.

Nah! Jack Daniels is filtered through charcoal. It takes out all of the chemicals, impurities, hangovers, and divorces.

I can tell you what ya' DON'T wanna do with that stuff ...

Mix it with cranberry juice & drink entirely too much of it ... after you were already 3 sheets to the wind.

I think slamming ones skull repeatedly into a brick wall, non-stop from sunrise to sunset ... would result in LESS of a headache.

16 years later & I still haven't forgotten that headache the next morning.

The shat they do to it nullifies their right to be legally designated 'bourbon'.

Dan, can you add "Regional Meet" in the title and sticky?

BTW, Anyone tried this yet (Four Grain) -> http://www.woodfordreserve.com/bottlings.asp

Best bet would be to stay in Lexington -> approx. 30 miles from the Distillery. Lexington has enough hotels/restaurants/bars to keep us busy.

Especially Belterra Casino in Nicholasville just off I-75. Any Gamblers out there?

I will look into what else is around that area.

Should I vote yes without knowing the dates? That way, when I have to back out due to work, I can pelted with remarks about being afraid to attend.

Or, I can hold my vote until the dates are announced, and until then, be known as a spoiler because I won't post my vote.

Tsk, tsk, decisions, decisions.

I think the voting will go better if you pick a date. Keep in mind about 25 members are already doing something April 21-23 2006.

Fair enough Mac,..

How about March 24th (Friday) - March 26th (Sunday)? This will be the first weekend of Spring and the weekend after St. Pat's day.

Drive to Lexington on Friday meeting for dinner.

Saturday, visit the distillery then Belterra for "games of chance."

Sunday, depart for home.

Just shooting from the hip.

We did have two meets locally in May... and I agee it is hit or miss.
The last two picks were April 21 or so, and we were lucky on both years.
Well...there was that EAM-II massive, end-of-the-world-is-coming hail storm right before the track....

Check your local almanac for the historical weather for the dates in April.

50-50 chance ANY time of the year, but this early (April), and this far north and east...who knows. :dunno:

I'm in regardless.

How about pushing it out a tad further, say May, say 2nd or third week, and call it EAM-IV?

SORRY, DIDN'T NOTICE THE DATE WAS SET.

Call it EAM-IV " Slippin' and a Sippin' " Prologue to " It's not snowing...it's all in your imagination "

Ok. I chose the dates in March for several reasons:

One Holiday that month -> St. Pat's Day

In April, it is historically rainy and during this month there is Good Friday, Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday as well as Daylight savings time change (spring forward).

In May, as Dan said, there is Derby then Mother's day as well as Memorial day during this month.

I will try and get ahold of a Farmer's Almanac for *****s and giggles, but March feels good so far.

Hopefully, this won't be an issue for the members wanting to attend?

Any member that can make it in Friday around lunchtime, or shortly thereafter could travel a little out of the way and stop by my work for a tour.

I work at Dana Corp. (Spicer Driveshaft Division) and is only 60 miles west of Lexington. Anyone interested would get the nickle/dime tour to see how driveshafts are assembled, welded, straightened and balanced (dynamic). We make driveshafts for the Escape/Tribute all the way up to Class 8, over-the-road vehicles.

Sound good?

I believe the tours are ~$5.00 p/person. There are 2 distilleries within close proximity to one another (Buffalo Trace and Woodford). I will need to investigate further.

Keep 'em coming!

Just wondering,..

Out of the 17 people and others thinking on it, how many are coming that want to gamble?

I am asking because dumba$$ me saw Belterra in Lexington not realizing that all gambling around Lexington/Louisville is across the creek in Indiana :bs: . Closest one approx. 90 miles (no biggie right?).

The Belterra in Lexington is an office or some crap like that. Distilleries are definiately a go with at least 2 we can visit and possibly more pending on how many are coming to gamble.

Speak up and let me know as I am working on a schedule that very possibly could include a lot of Distilleries.

Thanks,

Something new in the quicky liquor store at the market this evening.

Russels Reserve 10-yr.
Made at the Wild Turkey plant.

I had never seen, nor tried it. Very nice I must say. And apparently the $29 price tag was a good deal compared to prices I see on the internet.

I recommend.;)

Welcome Russell's Reserve, a 10-year-old small batch bourbon created by master distiller Jimmy Russell. Aided by son, barrel specialist Eddie Russell, Russell created the bourbon to be crisp, complex and smooth, he says. Made at the Austin Nichols Distillery, home of Wild Turkey, Russell's Reserve will be released by Pernod Ricard in September.

This is looking more possible all the time....I havn't had a good snort of Wild Turkey Rye (green lable) in a long time.

If the Holiday Inn doesn't work out is their a Hampton in the area, we always have good luck with Hampton.

And don't worry about burn-outs I'm sure Barry, Mac and Zack will find a spot. :burnout:

OK,

We have 13 members saying they will attend our meet in the Bluegrass State with 7 members considering. ;)

So far, so good. I have shared a rough draft itinerary with Mary and Dan with positive feedback. This schedule will be posted in about a week or so.

Here's where we need your help,...

Sunday scheduling is a bit tricky as I am unsure who wants to stay Sunday then leave Monday to return home to their families.

Many people are coming from Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan. There are others traveling from farther away requiring hours and hours behind the wheel. :burnout:

We want everyone to be safe and fully rested for their drive home and need a response from the members coming and if they can stay Sunday then leave Monday morning.

Again, once I have this information from each of you, then Sunday can be finalized and itinerary posted. :)

Currently we are looking good, and need a solid schedule.

For those members considering coming down, a decision will need to be made fairly soon. :poke: :D ;)

I guarantee one hell of a good time with plenty of activities to keep us busy.

So, reply as soon as possible on who can return home Monday so we can proceed with planning. ?

Thanks in advance,

Mike. :)

13 solid votes in the poll, with 7 possibles! Go Marauders! Dash plaques on me!

L) Marauder.Net National Meet 2006-1
O) Sippin' and Slippin' in Louisville, KY.
G) March 24-26, 2006
O)

Schedule...As in the past, Zack and I will prolly leave Chicago Friday morning for an afternoon check at the hotel. Fun starts Friday evening. Leaving Sunday morning after breakfast with our friends. Anything y'all want to do in between, count us in.

Hotel doesn't matter to me, but we (as a group) have patronized the Hampton chain in many events without disappointment.

I don't want to give too many details as it is early in the game. The "theme" for this meet is bourbon/sippin' in Louisville.

BTW, gambling is not included in this schedule, but does not mean members can't branch off to a casino if they so desire.

A train museum visit is scheduled for Friday.

Distillery tours are scheduled for both days (Saturday/Sunday) with a possible surprise mixed in (cross fingers here).

It is a very tight schedule, loaded with fun and convoying in relatively short "bursts" :D .

The Hotels will be in Louisville.

(I had to edit due to an error. Got my events crossed. My apologies).

Not too shabby at $38 a 750....very smooth. Incredibly sweet after taste.
They do not disclose the barrel age, claiming the brewmaster selects the the bourbon when he feels it's ready. :dunno:

If you are still not sure if you can make the Bourbon meet, hotel rooms are dwindling quickly. Once they are gone, you will be on your own to procure a room.

Meaning

Origin

The supposed inscription at the entrance to Hell. From Dante's Divine Comedy. The translation into English by H.F.Cary is the origin for this English phrase, although he gave it as the less commonly used 'All hope abandon ye who enter here'.

Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.

Justice the founder of my fabric mov'd:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.

Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I endure.
All hope abandon ye who enter here.

Such characters in colour dim I mark'd
Over a portal's lofty arch inscrib'd:
Whereat I thus: Master, these words import

If you are wavering on whether to join us or not, time is short. We still have a few rooms available on a first come-first served basis. Lots of good times, good people and GREAT cars.

PM Mike(mm2004) for room information.

Okay...What's it going to be this time? Someone give me a hint?

Every National Member meet I've been to has had a "slogan", or, "tag" line on our dash plaques. "Raid on Chocolate Town", "Raid on Rock Hall" and "Dyno with Jerry, Dinner with Dennis" to name a few. What's it going to be for this National Member meet? So far, I have...

"Footloose in Looseville"
"Marauders Raid Mash Town"
"Sippin' an Slippin' in Looseville"
"Bourbon and Boastin' in Looseville"
"No brag, just booze"

And more. I am open to anything suggestion y'all put forth...Where are the poets when you need them?

Post your ideas here, or, e-me at SergntMac@aol.com

If I get enough good suggestions, I'll put the final three to a poll.

My deadline for suggestions is 1 March, 2006.
