Crusin on the freeway approaching a UHP and of course he's cruisin at 65 and I was doin 70 and kinda worked my way around the bunch of woosies that don't dare go 66. I just get past him and he speeds up looks at the front (plate check) and of course I don't have one. He drops back and follows for 3-4 minutes. I knew he was running my plate. Hits the lights and here we go.

It was damn funny. I got pulled over because my tint is to dark. In Utah we can only have 43% front. Heh mine were 15.6% on his light meter. He said "jeeze I thought you were an undercover I had to check your plate just to make sure I didn't pull over a detective." Then he asked "so um whats a Marauder? It looks like my Vic" I then explained to him the differences and he was really nice. About my age 25-28. He let me go with just a verbal warning.

Now here's the humor in it. Last night I did a ride along with my buddy for his entire shift. We were pulling people over for the same stuff. hahahahaha Karma strikes back!

I had a policeman follow me down the road a ways and pulled up next to me when I stopped for gas. Anyone who knows me knows I didn't earn the nickname Speed Racer just from watching the cartoon, so I'm thinking it's ticket time. Turns out, he just wanted to know how I liked the car and if I would recommend buying one. I said HELL YEAH, go for it. After I filled the tank we talked for a few more minutes, really nice guy, hope he bought one.

I went to a wedding for one of my buddies, his dad is a police officer. When I pulled up in front of the wedding hall with the MM there were a bunch of officers outside talking. My wife and I heard them say those Marauders are bad ass.

HAh I just downloaded the pics in my camera phone. I took a pic to document the first pull over in the MM. :D

This was back in 7-o3, she was just 2 weeks old. I was going to the dealer to swap a rim, mine had a few scratches on it. Got nailed doing 59 in a 40 mph zone. Who could tell. The thing was quite a different ride from my '94 Taurus with 125k on it. He was on foot shooting a laser. He walks out onto the road a flags me over. There were two of them, his buddy was already busy with someone. The two of them are commenting on how they thought they only came in black. Mine is silver birch. He proceded to write me up and explained that I could show up if I wanted to to court. I did. Explained to the judge that my car was new, had a pic to show it with the Taurus in the background, he was not ionterested, but in court the officer did state that it was a very nice car. I got a probation before judgement. Had to pay a fine but no points. Zero tickets since then, but probably should have a few..............:coolman:

ive been pulled over at least 15 times and never gotten a ticket.

the worst was when me and my friends were driving to virginia. it was on rt 13 right before the chesapeke bay bridge tunnel. i was doing 83 in a 55. told the officer i thought the speed limit was 65. then he said well you were still doing 83. and i didnt have my reg. he gave me a warning

The FIRST time I got pulled over in the Marauder a state trooper thought I was a cop, then when he knew I wasn't he flat out said "You blew my doors off! I'm giving you a ticket." No chance for me to explain why I was going so fast. Little did he know I was road racing a Lightening and winning. Anyway I've been pulled over 8 times so far and got 7 speeding tickets and more to come! :P

Joined the ranks of the fallen yesterday morning going to get a haircut. Well, that only took a month to get out of my system (today is exactly a month since I picked up my MM).

I-95 South in Orange, CT. Seems state police use a quiet Saturday morning in vicinity of McDonald's rest area quite often to catch speeders. I was going over 100 and taking a route I never usually take, going at speeds I normally don't drive (seriously) so the perfect combo to snag my stupid a**.

Didn't even bother hitting the brakes. By the time I saw him on the RH side of the road next to a berm I KNEW I was caught. I was in the middle lane all by myself. Probably snagged my speed after I lifted anyway.

I was strightforward and honest and got the same in return. Gonna pay the ticket...trooper did me a major favor on the paperwork and kept me from having major headaches. I think he may have noticed my spotless record (no tickets for YEARS and YEARS), plus a nice shiney black MM with temp plates on it and realized I may not be in my normal element and probably not a habitual offender. Not every day you drive away from a stop that starts with the trooper asking "106 miles per hour is a little excessive isn't it??!!".

Washed up the 'Rauder and tucked it away. Told it our punishment was fair and we're still good guys. Got a big dent now in any budget I had for new stuff. It's snowing like heck and gettin pretty deep so it'll be a while before we head back out on the highway together. Got to use my Jeep for now....which I don't think I've ever gotten to go even 85 because of lift/tires and only a little 2.5L to push myself along with.

I think I read elsewhere around here....with power comes responsibility. I musn't use it for Evil (or at least drive screaming fast straight into a speed trap)?

An absolute requirement for any MM is a good radar and laser detector wired to go on with the ignition. I could not drive my MM without my Beltronics co-pilot. It has saved me many times and cheaper then a good speeding ticket.

Yes, there is some truth to your statement. But, the vast majority of the time I am not a lone target. The LEO are busy in front of me and I can slow down in time. If nothing else, even if you are alone and get hit, you can still slow down ( i.e. drop out of O/D and slowly put on your E/B so your B/Ls do not show) rather then continue your speed and possibly make things worse and not know the LEO has got you. Believe me I have saved myself many tickets with my R/D even being shot with laser.

Glenn is right!
A good radar detector is not an inoculation against tickets but used as an adjunct to ticket defensive driving can and will save many times the cost of the unit in traffic fines. A detector and stupid all out, ok; arrest me driving will end your priviledge to drive. And it should. My 2 cents. Dennis:cool:

Correct and they will confiscate your detector for good. :D Even as fast as I drive usually there is someone who wants to drive a little faster. A bird dog to catch the ticket is great. When the radar or lidar is activated to catch him or her my Valentine wakes me up. No sweat. I have had a Valentine since the day Mike V. opened his business. Newbie here............ Just picked up my 03 MM back in JanuaryBlack on charcol, all stock except for (aggressive window tint by previous owner) after 8 years and 130k of my miles with a 1995 GT Convertible(Had 30k when I bought it). I don't buy new cars...Big waste of $.......

Anyways have done many runs back to MA, and now CT where my younger brother lives outside Hartford in my GT. Allways felt like I was dumped out of a meatgrinder upon arrival. Not in the MM...... A family emergency called for another run. 14 hrs. Snellville (outside Atlanta) to Farmington, CT, and felt great considering I had worked a full day, before driving all nite.:sleepy:

The Cop part...... Was going on the 2nd leg at dusk.... Farmington, to Worcester, MA was clipping up 84 in typical lead foot style, saw a few of CT's finest on the southbound side, but missed this guyon my side until I was perpendicular to his hidden position.......oops!

Thought I was sunk............. The Trooper never pulled out! I was like ok 90mph did not excite him? Where are his buddy's down the highway waiting for me???? I can see now around a slight bend down the hill for the next mile give or take, and no Troopers..........

I said to myself "This car has magical powers" lol:D He must thought I was a cop driving that fast heheheh...Did not wait for em to change his mind either. Got goin the hell down the road hard for a few miles just to seperate.

Side note Down here in GA the Cities of Chamblee and Doraville.... One or both of these cities have Mercury Marauders that their Police Chiefs drive. Both these communities have very gung ho aggressive copsin all kinds of confiscated hot rides, so take it easy if you are out on Rte 285 Northeast of Atlanta. Put a Civic with a fart can out in front of ya and let him take one for the team lol......

Hoping for another quality 8-10yr. Ford run like the GT.

I gotta have the record for getting the fastest summons in our group.

My Marauder wasn't 24 hours old when I got tracked doing 77 in a 55.
Trooper pulled me over, walked all around my Marauder, and then asked me
if I had all my papers for my nice new ride.
A few minutes later, he came back with the summons, and told me to bring the Marauder to court.

In NYS, you get a chance to discuss your summons with the issuing Officer
prior to discussing your options with the Judge.
The Officer remembered my Marauder and asked if I brought it with me.
We talked and he knocked the summons down to a violation that didn't incur points, but I still paid a fine.
He walked outside with me, after we spoke to the Judge, and asked all kinds of questions about my Marauder.
Then he gave me a warning and said to keep the speed down on the parkways.
The Judge drives the parkways, and he takes notes of the plates of people that pass him.
If I got caught again, and the Judge recognized my plate, there would be
nothing he could do to get me off it.

Took her out in the Maruader, was gliding to the left lane on 85 North of Atlanta, and she commented "Look at those people looking at us, and hitting their brakes" lol.

Its a great advantage on the highway, but stinks on the back roads......People ahead slow down to a crawl.

Be honest I never really thought about this prior to ownership. Was really focused on a Cobra, or a responsible F150 Supercrew. What a mistake those would have been for me hehehe.

It is a good question. "Do they have you the second the dectector goes off?" The answer to the question requires that we give it some parameters.

Assuming that you are alone and out front you also have to have an officer who is not trying to "long line" you by attempting to get a reading at the outskirts of the range of his detecting unit.

This applies equally to radar and lidar. :)

Honeslty radar detectors dont really work because we have the speed locked in before the radar detectors even have a chance to go off! The only way the detectors are any good is if the police radar is emitting a constant beam. I always keep the beam on standby until I see the one I want to get. Dont worry, I wouldnt dare touch another fellow Marauder person!

For the statement "radar detectors dont really work because we have the speed locked in before the radar detectors even have a chance to go off" to be true a radar operator would first need to get a visual estimate of the speed, take a reading from a distance which was close enough to get a good reading at the first pulse and have to be targeting a single vehicle.

It is these variables that make having a detector very worthwhile. It has been my experience that a good visual estimate is rarely ever gotten, that the technology is constantly being used at or beyond the limits of the range of the technology and used in situations where there are multiple bogeys which could cause a false reading.

One also has to consider the beam spread and how a detector operator might pick up signals coming from the beam spread to get that extra time needed to slow down.

Still another factor is reflectance. A beam reflecting off of another surface might also give the detector operator that needed edge.

True, there are cases where a detector warns too late but in the real world the enforcing side rarely uses speed measuring technology in that "text book" fasion. It is for this reason that detectors do frequently give enough warning to be considered valuable.

Please do not take my opposing point of view as an attack. I am simply adding my knowledge as a counterpoint to what has been written here lest someone decide not to invest in a detector based on the comments of a law enforcement officer. :)

Proudcop,

Actually, I do know quite a bit about radar. I'll admit that it is very hard to beat when used with procedural compliance. That is where the guy with the detector gets the edge. There are quite a few times when it is not used with procedural compliance.

Let's not make this personal, ok? I wasn't trying to insult and I wasn't trying to challenge you. As tempting as your challenge is to me I would rather be invited to visit you under less adversarial terms. If we ever do get together, let's find a track and put down a few laps in a fair battle. Now that would be a lot of fun and I bet the MM crowd would love it.

I was simply trying to counter balance what I felt was a blanket assertion that would only be true under certain circumstances.

I used to have a Passport, in the late eighties when I had my MR2..... Got more tix with that thing on my dash, then without.

I think I fell into a false sense of security with it. Now I drive without any Radar, and knock on wood have been "clean" for about 3 yrs.

Driving without one at high speeds forces you to pay better attention to all the details of the road JMHO. At least it does for me, and how I clip on the highways thats a good thing.

Plus you can always put some dope out in front of you to attract all the attention. There is always one around....Just look for the Mullet and Calvin & Hobbs in the rear window, orone of those Tin can Honda/Mitsu types.

And yea...Drive with confidence ...A must!

In the 80's I used to get tickets all of the time but it wasn't because of my Passport. :) It was because I was young and stupid.

Still, I learned how to fight them in court and, in spite of getting a LOT of tickets I had a near 100:0 win:loss record in court.

Today, I use the Valentine 1. I have been using it for years. Adding the MM to my "ticket defense" arsenal has also helped. About two weeks ago I was cruising along Rt. 2 in CT at around 90 and came up on a CSP in the distance. I came up on him from around the bend so he should have, by rights, had me nailed. But I actually saw him and had a few seconds to slow down before he tagged me with LIDAR. The only thing I can attribute to his delay in firing was that he was A) either getting a visual estimate of speed first or B) figuring out if my car was a Cruiser or not.

I would never rely on my detector as a security blanket (and I'm not insinuating that anyone here does.) No one should. I'm not that lax. I use it as part of my entire "anti-ticket" arsenal.

I would absolutely LOVE to do that. In fact, I would be willing to make a special trip down to the Carolina's just for that purpose.

If this is a real invitation then let's start to make plans for something during the summer. Should we begin a discussion in PM?

For you - a police officer - and me - an unaplogetic habitual speeder - to be in a Cruiser for even half a shift would be fun. It's a scary thought, indeed... like mixing water and oil, but I think it would be fun.

To me it seems like there were alot more speed traps back then. Maybe because I was young and stupid lol Probably Paranoid too "damn....There is one around every corner on this road"..........

LOL

I have heard very good things about Valentines...Never actually seen one. My thing is, I think driving without a detector has made me more observant and alert to all things happening on the road. In essence a better high speed driver. I used to ralley years ago, which helped develop my vehicle handling skills, but you can never be to observant of whats going on around you. That is the X factor drving on USA highways.

Heck even my cop friends tell me about ppl. doing stupid stuff right in front of them. Why? Not paying attention to their surroundings.

I think its a whatever works for ya scenario. No right or wrong way, but I cannot see spending $400 on a device like that until what is working for me right now, begins to fail. Up in CT. though, I may think differently as the CPT (as you well know Speed) is very gung ho on speed traps.

Dan

I try to be as observant as possible but also realize that nothing should be left to chance.

For me, I see this more as the system being stacked up against me than simply me driving above the legal limit. It starts with artificially low speed limits and goes right on through to Kangaroo Courts that mark you as Guilty until proven innocent and then on to insurance companies who raise your rates for something that virtuall everyone does called speeding.

I take all of this up against the potential that during the ONE time that I am not 100% alert and driving at 10 above there might be a radar trap pointed my way.

No way I'm willing to take that risk. At least not here in CT where we have been called "The Speedtrap State" more then once.

For sure if i lived in CT or had occasion to travel through on a consistent basis, I would "Invest" in a Valentine.

I think it comes down to the wealth of the state, as to how aggressive law enforcment is on speeding JMHO. I know there are police officers on this thread, so feel free to blow me out of the water if the following sounds stupid:

States like CT which has a very wealthy population, have high expetations for their tax dollars. One of those expectations, however suttle, is to "keep the riffraff out" (That includes you Dan lol just kidding) One of the ways they communicate the "Not in our back yard" to others is to get very aggressive with speeders, which often times leads to additional fines/arrests for other things.....

Now states like LA use speed traps as revenue producers....I think its a cottage industry down there....
The state is so poor, but they have found a way to dip into the pockets of motorists traveling through as an additional way to generate funds.

I know certain communities do this also, in every state, but certain states as a whole seem to have unwritten mandates on speeding.

Just my .02

In my DC is a big ticket trap. We got the red light cameras all ova the place as well as the cars sittin on the side of the road with cameras in the grille and they even gettin slick they puttin white vans on the side and those have cameras on the grilles too. So if any one is coming to this area or crusing thru be careful if its nite and you drive past something and you see a big flash be prepared to get a ticket in the mail.

Marauderman- I live in Snellville 25 miles MN of downtown Atl.
"where everybody is sombody" at least thats what they say.

Coming down??

Nate- I have heard of some VA State Patrol trickery on the beltway, plus the fact that Faifax County has infared helecopters that they use to track suspects with. this cuts down on chases, and lets roadblocks work more effectively. Of couse its a very expensive toy, but Fairfax County has a nice tax base for toys lol:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

I gotta have the record for getting the fastest summons in our group.

My Marauder wasn't 24 hours old when I got tracked doing 77 in a 55.
Trooper pulled me over, walked all around my Marauder, and then asked me if I had all my papers for my nice new ride.

Nope. I got one in July 05 for 85 in a 65 and the orifficer knocked it down from an "alleged" 93. NOTE: I use the term "orifficer" correctly and am applying it only to THIS LEO in THIS case. He claims to have paced me but I saw him. It was no pace. It was a pounce job... hammer down until nearly tailgatine/break fast to level off speed/look at speedo to guage speed/BAM-instant ticket. I am already on record as having no respect for guys who break the rules of proper procedure to enforce the law.

Anyway, I know that probably isn't the highest for the group but it's as high as you get in CT without going to the misdemeanor level.

Best,

Dan

States like CT which has a very wealthy population, have high expetations for their tax dollars. One of those expectations, however suttle, is to "keep the riffraff out" (That includes you Dan lol just kidding)

Hey now!!! :P

Actually, it's too late. I already live here. I think that if the CT SP knew about me they would have found a way to implant a GPS in my car years ago. :)

Best,

Dan

Its really fun when you can see the look on the officer's face after he has picked you up doing about 132 mph. I would assume that is how fast I was going as the MM was at the soft limiter. I have no doubt my brakes were glowing as I passed him in the opposite direction at exactly the speed limit.
A late entry, but this thread is a hoot. I'd love to tell you some of the Tempo stories, but probably no one would believe them...Each one starts with "So I was doing about 120 when..."

First of all, were you going 120 in his lane and then turned around or was it from the opposite side all along?

Feel free to tell us the Tempo stories. I love this stuff. Share away.
