Is the transmission pan on the MM (4R70W) the same as a Ford 4R100 / A4OD? Would a remote tranmission filter kit be a good thing to install?

No. The AODE and 4R70W pans are the same.
Yes. There is even a factory kit for that...I'll get the part number from the service manual when I get home, unless someone else comes up with it first.

The pans mentioned are indeed the same. Remote filter can't hurt, but what does it get you? You still need the filter in the pan, thus it will need to be changed someday.
Few years ago, I installed a Ford Racing pan (M-7195-4R, or, M-7195-AOD) that added capacity, and cooling fins too. It has a drain plug, and every once in a while I drain the pan and refill. It's not a full flush, but it's easy to do and keeps the tranny fluid healthy.
Since then, the lube jockeys came up with the tranny flush via the feed lines to the tranny cooler. That's even easier today, and just as responsible, but I see costs from 90 to 120 bucks too. Pinched for time before a road trip, I opted for this once last year and I am please with it as an option, but I fall back on my drain and refil plan when I have time.
Is it worth it? Yes. I have 30K of very hard miles on my tranny without a hint of problems after it was rebuilt by Jerry W. 500+ HP to the wheels, 12.2x in the Quarter on street tires, plus countless road trips at speed, like Chicago to Jacksonville FL, stopping only for gas and refreshment, in 13 hours. Nothing beats fresh fluid for tranny longevity, what's a few bucks in Mercon V?

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to verfify that the pans are the same. I will be getting a Derale deep steel pan / cooler. It's made out of steel, has a drain plug w/magnet, adds 3 quarts more to the capacity and it's got "patented turbolator cooling tubes" that run thru the pan. They claim a 20 to 50 degree fluid temp difference. My son is installing one on his '99 Camaro. It can be seen at: http://www.derale.com/transmissionpans.shtml
Discalimer: I have no interests financial or otherwise in the aforementioned company.

Derale was my second choice in deep pans, I like your selection. But, I have the Ford Racing girdle, and like collar and cuffs to match.
So, are the pans the same or not? Who is correct?

The AOD/AODE/4R70W and the E4OD/4R100 are NOT the same pan...
