MarauderTJA
01-22-2006, 09:08 PM
Here is what I propose:
A heads-up drag race between SSM Members. Have a SSM Marauder buddy you want to race. Do it this night. Get him fired up, insult him, goat him, call him names, anything you can do to get things motivated for some SSM drag race fun.
Date: February 10th Friday Night - Moroso Dragway
The challenges so far:
1. TMAC vrs Cobra25 - S/C, stock tires
2. MarauderMarc vrs StevenJ - n/a
3. Shakes26 vrs MarauderTJA - S/C, Drag radials
4.
5.
Let's get these numbers filled in. Any takers?
All in some SSM fun, nothing more, nothing less.
All participants in the SSM Drag Race Challenge will receive a TJA Marauder Race Team T-Shirt..

Doesn't have to be so elaborate Tom. If at all possible, I will be at Morosso this Friday with my car. I have a whole lot of horsies to unleash. I should be able to get the day off but cannot promise as I already took off Sat for a wedding. If I go I will drag Zoltan along with me. A Reinhart air/air will be there too. Would be a great time for all!
If you want to buy me a couple gallons of race gas to mix in I'll take it!

Awesome, Tom is calling these guys out!
I think I've got a pretty good idea on Tim's ET/mph, but without drag radials it's not going to be pretty. I just want to see a video of the shenanigans.
Go TMAC go! :banana2:

Not trying to be elaborate Tim. But really would like to be there. I don't think I can make it in time for Friday night at Moroso as I will be driving back from TN on Wednesday afternoon, arrive home late Friday afternoon (900+ miles) and to leave again for a 3+ hour ride to Moroso. Wife will take a hammer to my Marauder, then I would probably go to jail afterwards. Not exactly what I would care to do. I was thinking maybe February 4th to encourage some participation at Bradenton if you guys are available.
Just trying to make a fun time for all.

I'm sure most you know that I live right next to Z, or atleast I hope so. I honestly think that he won't go. He's been really laid back lately about getting that Metco safetloop installed among other things. I keep asking him to go to Moroso but he always responds, "when I'm ready". I don't know if he's scared or what. Though, I think he may of had that loop installed last Saturday at Speed Zone, or where ever it was the shop that he went to. Well, we'll find out soon enough.

Not trying to be a dick Tom, but Morosso is maybe an hour away from my house. Bradenton is like 3-4 hours. I do want to get some realistic runs in with my KDW2's and stock rims however.
Don't you just love those pictures?

Cool, you guys work this out. Please, someone grab a video camera.
In the meantime, they're going to need all the advice we can give them for their first time out to the track. Let's lay out the whatnots for them:
#1 - When you drive around the water box and then back up to get your rear tires wet, make sure you put your car back into "D" before you light them up. Reverse rooster tails up your doors isn't cool.
Next?

I figuer if I oil down my rear tires and put a 200lb weight inside my car it will give Zoltan a fair chance:neener:

JD,
I disagree. The track staff just love it, they get all excited and jump up and down so much when I did it, I went and did a second round for them... because I'm just that nice a guy.;)
Okay so when the light goes green, you go zat way, really really fast. Okay? Oh and no turns, just straight okay?
I'm sure we'll be plenty present for this event, although I can't make it this friday, I definitely wanna see tape on this!

I have driven both Z's and T's cars and they are both very fast. It would be a great race to see. The only advantage I see Tim has is that he has short or no hair on his head. Z on the other hand had a head full of hair. You know what they say in the world of racing, the lighter the faster..Every pound, every ounce counts so T might have the edge on you Z.....UNLESS>>>>>>>>>you decide to shave your head so then both of you could be pretty much equal  ....Imagine Z with a shaved head...WOW...we cold all be a trio......If you want I'll let you use one of my razors to shave your head...Just think about it. Your head would be more arodynamic and would probably give you an edge with the windows down.......As for stevenL being able to beat MarauderMarc....Yeah I would love to see that as well....StevenJ...I think its time to put your money where your mouth is

I have to get someone to install it and have Scott check my Air/Fuel ratio before it happeneds. By the way One race I'd love to see would be Shakes 26 against MarauderTJA. Both have low 12 1/4 mile times.

Hey Steven, let me know how my rear end of my car looks from 8 car lengths back.
I'd say more like five car lengths back. Then again, knowing your driving, you'll probably loose control of your car and go spinning into the concrete wall. And when that happens, well don't say I told you so but I would of told you so :burnout: ............. CRASH j/k!

Hey don't feel bad Mark. At Atlanta SSHS5, stupid me, I put the car in first gear for a burnout and forget to put it into drive when I get to the line. (some sweet little Georgia peach on the side-line distracted me - that is what I am standing by as an excuse) Then I take off balls to the wall and start bouncing off the rev limiter. Dahhh. Javier saw it and at first thought I blew the motor. Talk about feeling real stupid. :depress: That was a great dummy a** run at 17.6 something. We all make mistakes..:P

Everything for me is contingent on getting an acceptable final tune and having the tensioner thing checked/replaced if necessary. I feel the 10th should definitely be doable.

And Marc, I consider you a buddy too,, but I am really confused on the red light thing. The only red lights I have seen since I bought and raced my Marauder from NA to S/C'd were in the opposite lane:). Haven't had one. Not saying I won't though. Does happen. Just wear your dark sunglasses at Moroso. You'll be OK.

Anyone wanna pitch in money for 4.10s? Come on! Someone needs to give me a winning shot! Then again knowing Mark, he probably will attempt something stupid, do a burnout, and crash into the wall. He's already come close to doing it once, maybe he'll atempt something equally stupid again! LOL! :D
You know Steven, you talk alot of CRAP. I mean at least say something that makes half sense. You bash my driving, but its you that I remember coming to a Tower meet, putting your car into neutral, revving it up, throwing it into drive and making a puzzy azz "squeek" with your tires. Fact is, I know HOW to drive my car. I may be aggressive, but thats why I bought a MM. If I wanted to drive like your pansy azz, Id have bought a Tempo. Whats wrong with my burnouts??? Jealous??? My car is N/A and I can make it look like a severe case of fog. You??? Oh yeah...."squeek". Ive drag raced before you ever had your Barmitzfah. Heres some advice, before anything leaves your mouth...stop....think....STOP! !!!! Now will someone give me some real competition please??? I dont want to be GIVEN a win.

I don't know what your talking about... Unlike you, who goes sideways, and does donuts, I can't afford tires every 1,500 miles. Plus I didn't rev it and drop it, that would be bad for the tranny.... :nono: I have enough power to do a good brake stand, why thank you....

I have never reved and dropped it for the record. I may have reved it up before doing a burnout, but I never rev and drop it because that's very bad for the transmission. Just like I'm sure you don't always do donuts where you are only about ten feet away from crashing into the side of a building. I always turn of the t/c, hold the brakes, and floor it. I should do it with the o/d off though, that would make it a lot easier. Maybe you should learn to chill..... out a little! You sure are sounding a bit uptight.

Zoltan, only a complete goof ball would diss the club! No, it won't help against theft from a professional theft ring, but it will stop theft from joy riding teenagers who are responsible for the vast majority of car thefts. These juvenile scum and adult unprofessional loosers mostly have screw drivers in their possession and I have not seen one in possession of a hack saw for the steering wheel yet.
So again, anyone dissing the club, a fifty dollar visible theft deterrent, is a complete goof ball. Have him park his car at the Broward Mall without the club and see how long it lasts!

Greg, I will not be using any special race gas tune. I will be mixing a couple gallons of race gas in my tank when I get there though as a little insurance. as I'm not big into this drag racing stuff and want to make sure my garage queen/dyno queen makes it home.

Looks like I MIGHT-and thats a BIG MIGHT-be in town Friday for this one. I'll know for sure Thursday afternoon. Don't mind doing some SSM drag for fun.

Did it happen? Did everyone show up?
shakes_26
02-10-2006, 11:34 PM
I believe everyone did show up. It was quite a commotion about all the Marauders present, we got Tom up into the booth to give the nice lady some info about the SSM group.
Heck we even had a Trifecta of Supercharged cars. I beleive we were short a DTR and Pearl Blue to round out the event.
This was the best traction I've ever seen at Moroso. Period. ENd of sentence. Still waaay behind Bradenton for hook, but it was pretty good.
I beleive everyone ran a few times, even though it was busy. We had Marauder TJA from the west coast, he came with Lou and his son in the car. After a few runs down the track Tom encountered some oil on the track, he deftly tip toed out of that, otherwise I think Zoltan would have been served! I dont think Tom was too happy with the track conditions either as the wheelspin was fighting him from the get go. He headed back to the west coast after that run as we got shut down for a while and its a 3hr drive back.
Speaking of which, great showing by Z, he was in the 12.9s on street tires, not bad for his first outing with the big power maker he has. Tim, through soem miscommunication/understanding was sent over to the sportsmans class, we all ran under 'dial in'. We didn't see much of him after that, just the way the timign between the groups is. Juno laid down some nice consistent runs as well. MarauderMarc broke into the 13's, deep, like 13.8's deep on a NA car, sweet.
I ran a best ever, 12.17, posted elsewhere...yeah, woot!!!. Those are the only times I remember, the guys will post in the AM I'm sure. I'll be up early and off to the exhuast shop to replace my collector gasket...guess the leak didn't affect me all that much.

12.17 at Moroso? With an exhaust leak? WOW! You must be quite proud, old buddy. That's an impressive accomplishment with 3:55 gears. I guess the custom tune really paid off, eh? We'll have to get that bad-boy to Bradenton one night. For sure, you'll be knocking on the door of the 11-second club.;)

Well it was a fun nite. My first time down the track with my Marauder. My first run wasn't bad 12.91 at 111.41 MPH. My R/T .954 off the line wasn't good , Had some tire spin off the line too but not to bad. My Second run I wasn't happy with at all. 13.81 at 109.66 MPH. MY tires spinned way to much, couldn't make them stick at all. But my R/T improved alot .063 so at least that made me feel a little better. Now I see why with all the Power My Marauder has I need more pratice at the track and a set of widened rim's and some Nitto's too if I plan on coming close to a few other's in our group. All in time as they say. I was really impressed with how Shakes26 ran and hooked up at the line. I wasn't their yet for his 12.17 run but I see how a good set of tires & alot of practice does help alot. Great run Mark. Just wanted to say a special Thanks to my friend MarauderTJA-Tom , I enjoyed Lining up with one of the Best & fastest Marauders for my first run & when Tom hit the oil slick on the track he handled it like a true expert. I did want to run TMAC but they sent him to a different line but It doesn't really matter because we all had fun.

Yeah the best part of the nite was having so many Marauders there at once, all running the same track under the same conditions. SO hard to compare one setup versus another when we are talking about running different tracks on different days.
I agree the drag radials make a difference, but I know some guys running into the 12's on street tires with a basic Trilogy kit and not much else.

Hey Z, good times. Practice makes perfect, a Trilogy set-up on street tires is a most unruly beast...you have to walk it out; no matter how tempting it is to hit the pedal hard.
Your 111 mph trap speed tells me your car will yield low 12's with pratice and drag radials. Congratulations.

I had a good time tonight. Although it was a little crowded with a lot of jits around.
Yeah, for some reason I was sent to the "sportsman" line.....? Guy asked what my car could run, I replied I have no idea, we'll see. He asked if I had any drag experience, I said "no", and was sent to a line where I quickly noticed I was alone. Oh well, got to hang out with a friend from work who did low 12's with a stock Lexus all night.
Then I had no idea how I ran until I got home and looked at my timeslips and noticed that I did better than I thought as 2 cars were on each slip, and my times appeared underneath my car/last 4 digit SS#. I chalk that up to being stupid and not noticing in the first place.
My first run I beat a SRT Dodge Neon.
I ran a 13.63 to his 13.71
My second run was 13.44 to some other cars 14.96.
I waited in the lines for hours and only got in 2 runs.:(
I observed that on each run I could not hook up my tires at all from the tree and had to take my foot off the gas to get the car under control, then reapply it, which wasted my times. I now fully see the rational of getting some widened rims with drag radials for the track.
Shakes ran an impressive 12.1:banana: and did an excellent job of representing the club last night!

Those times are better than I ran in CFR on stock rubber last summer. In fact, you did better than I though you would. Not too shabby my friend, not too shabby at all. We've got the exact same setup and I couldn't bust a 13.8 so save my soul with the BFGs.
It's good to see the light come on about the drag radials, with them I dropped over a second off my ET in similar weather. I hope you had fun out there even though you only got to run twice. With a little more track time and some good traction you'll get to experience the awesome capabilities of the car.

If I had done this a few times or knew what the hell I was doing ( I asked complete strangers for advice in the line last minute) perhaps I could have done a little better. My problem seemed to be I did not know how far down to put the accelerator on the line, to give it just enough gas and not break the tires loose. I did not try to power brake up the RPMs to 1000, just waited for the 3rd yellow light and hit the gas......
Well in any case it was with 93 octane, 3/4 tank of gas, tires 35 psi. Better luck next time:shake:

Had a good time last night. A big Congratulations to Shakes26! I saw your run Mark, you nailed it buddy;). See what happens when you use a great tuner? Have my work cut out to catch you, but I'll be coming:D.
Couldn't hook up. 1.9 sixty foots and one 1.8. Best of 12.4 at 111.57, a 12.6, 12.5 and a worse of 14.0 at 70 MPH with a 8.0 1/8 mile. How? Just before Zolton and I lined up a Harley P/u and Plymouth Prowler raced before us. Unknown to me the Prowler blew his motor just after the 1/8 mile and spewed oil all over my lane. Z got a slight head start, I caught up and just got by him (due to the drag radials) and then the Pucker Factor Made an Appearance and Hit Real Hard. I got off it, no brakes and my car swerved to the right (Dam that cement barrier looked close) and then to the left just barely into Zoltans lane. Managed to get it straightened out and coasted through the lights at a blinding 70 MPH. I was just extremely glad that it happend to me and not Zolton. That would not have been a good first experience for Z if he had been in my lane. Believe me. Fortunately everything worked out. Track was shut down for almost an hour to clean the mess up. This morning I notice oil, mixed in with the rubber on my rear quarter panals. Go figure.
Figured my luck had run out for the night So Lou, his son and I headed home for the three hour ride. Glad to see so many of our group made it. A lot of cool announcements were made on our group as well as MM.net getting kudos.
Z your car hauled A**. Get those widened rims and drag radials and you will be in the the low 12's for sure.
Today, Bootlegger got FIRST PLACE at the Marina H.S. Car Show in the Mercury Class! More than 300 cars were there and this is one of the largest car shows in SW Florida. Got to bed at 1.30 AM, up at 7 Am to clean the car. Bugs, rubber and more. A mess. But, yours truly did receive a trophy for Show Favorite (best 50 cars). SSM was again well represented.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the picnic.

Tim, you went out and got your feet wet and that's good enough for me. I just hoped you had some fun out there. Every time I go out I get more and more confident in my routine and have more and more fun at the track.
Not to try to over-analyze your numbers, but it's pretty easy to see you're leaving a bunch of time back at the first 60 feet. That can be explained by the BFG tires. The 107 / 108 mph trap speed is really encouraging though, because the best I made on stock rubber was 101 mph.
Drag radials alone should get you 0.5 - 0.6 seconds in the first 60 feet and the gain in momentum will get you spooled into the boost - then its bye bye baby. You've got one more mod left to put it all together! You'll catch the bug!

Yep, I slipped back a few spots on the database. Heading to the track this Thursday night to try to move back up. Your right. Go out and hope for the best. Great to see all the Marauders at the track. But the same track and same conditions do vary considerably with;
prepared starting line conditions, difference in lanes run to run, type of car than ran before you (fat slicks, drag radials, street tiress), practicing different types of launches, track temperature, changing/adjusting your tune, tire pressures, boost levels, shift points, burnout differences, varying ambient temps and dew points and much much more.
It all makes for interesting racing and thats what it is all about. All it takes is one really good hook up and a great run and you beat your personal best. The same conditions in reality DO NOT EXIST at any track or for any one race. Any experienced drag racer will tell you that. There is much more to drag racing than the majority of people realize. But that is why I love the sport and love to do the research to better myself and my Marauder's et. For me it is a continual challenge.

I think you'd be fine clearance-wise with the rear Bullitts running a 305 drag radial. That's pretty close to my 9.5" 45mm offset Konigs that I run the drag radials on and I don't have any problems at all, other than kicking up more trash on the rear skirt. Going to a 10" is probably better for that wide of a tire anyways.
The backspacing of the front is pretty close, only about a 1/10 of an inch more inboard on a 9" 35mm offset. It really depends on what size tires you run on the front. If you're going with the same tires you have now and they're not rubbing on the inside I think you'd be fine without any having to use any spacers.
If you like them I'd say go for it!
It was a blast with all the MM's there! Got to see all the current blower kits and all the other mods people are doing.
And dial in is the way to go. Poor Marc, (shakes) lined up with me with my 14.6 dial-in and his 12.2. It must be hard to watch someone pull away for 2 seconds before you can hit the go pedal!
My best run was 14.504 with a horrible .64 reaction time ( i was lined up with Magindat and I think he had a 15.0 d/i and I was watching his light and almost missed mine. :()I could have easily got another.1 . Not bad for just a tune and 3.73's.
Still it was great fun and it's a great way to see the effects of the mods you have done.
When's the next one! :D

Tim, I guarantee that if you get drag radials you won't just be using them for the track. The temps down there in FL probably don't get low enough for you to worry about their cold weather traction issues too often. But when it's warm enough for them to stick - woo baby!

Where did you buy those Nitto's at?
I think some rematches are in order.

No offense but the guy handling the tech guy kind of told you off...
Wow. Not only is that not true, but it didnt even make sense. The guy handling the tech guy? Were not talking about Broke Back Mountain here. Another fine example of someone not THINKING before they speak.

I just wanted to congratulate the SSM club for having such a great event. This is what owning a Marauder and having fun is all about! Good friends, good times and lots to talk about! Trash that is!
I want to give a big congratulations to Shakes_26 for doing such a fine job of driving the tires off that beast, it must have taken some real courage(smile)! I also want to reward him with a Trilogy Motorsports Sweat Shirt for winning the trash talking event and having the intellectual capacity to have selected one of the finest performance upgrades money can buy! How's that for trash talking.

I don't know which dealers on here carry them but one of the better prices I have seen, believe it or not, was Steeda. (around 227 ea.)

I still can't believe they said, "the Secert Service is here to race." I'll never get over that one. It's still bothering me even two days later.
I got that and a lot of the rest of the night on tape. Mrs. Magindat and Magindat Jr. were learning how to operate the brandy new camera. As soon as I figure out how, I'll be ripping the video off and will have it on CD at the Pic-a-Nic. I'll burn 10 or 15 copies. The video is VERRRRRY amaturish, but we got evidence that Z was actually and truly at the track!
Pm me if you guys want copies. I'll burn more if needed.
See ya Sunday!

Thats why I like racing, never know what's gonna happen. And like JD says if you aren't moving up, you're moving down.
I especially like racing Tom, because I can give him crap about it and vice versa, and we can still have a beer afterwards and laugh it up. Why? Because we have fun with it!
Of course I may have gone too far with it last time, since Tom has returned to his workshop where he is building some kind of a DeathStar of a motor, which will get boosted to scuba diver bending pressures. But its gonna be an animal..no wait..its gonna be a monster, battery lugs on the neck and everything. And I'm hoping to have the lane next to him when he runs it.

A lot of that off 27, particularly in west Pines, south of 75 but north of Miami, is trailer park country. There are a lot of backwoods people that live in that particular area. Don't bother asking how I know but it feels more like the 'real' South out there than the normal Miami culture if you know what I mean.

I was there in spirit! All-in-all, there's really not much sense in me drag racing my car these days. No new mods. No new tires. Nothing. I do, however, want to try this new tune out, but I fear I'll be traction-limited as far as beating my best time. I think my car cracked off the best it's capable of with that 12.9 run late last year. But, that doesn't mean I won't be at the track. I plan on going again before May. It's nice to see you and Shakes going back-and-forth without taking any veiled cheap shots. It shows you're both grown-ups...

You'll need a set of KDW2s as well or you'll just burn up your tires. Though, you mine as well step up to Nittos and get your rims widened. You won't hit 13s on stock tires unless you plan on having no tread left on them.

BTW, my Toyos seem to grip OK for the power now, but after the TC, they may go up in smoke!

It's a possibility...... Depends on when I get around to installing gears.
I 'll run you when you get them Steven, but this wager is just on if I can get into the 13's with 3.73's, a tune and a converter. We can wager mano o mano when you get your mods!
BTW, this is a great trash talking thread, perhaps we could add a specific Trash FORUM????? :)
