I cannot tell you how tired I am of our "Marauder vs. Marauder" slop. What a bunch of ego-maniac crap! Not one of our cars are identical, how can we compete? More importantly, why should we be competing anyway? Y'all are my friends, it concerns me not who's a better friend.

The very best time I ever had at any race track anywhere, was our parade to US. 42 in Ohio, an event associated with Barry's '05 "Back Yard Blast". If y'all missed this, you missed the best we have seen yet.

We went racing. We raced, we won, we lost, and we had a real blast doing it all too.

Two of the best race car drivers I know today pushed my #1x down the 1320, and I was pleased by their performance and compliments. Burned up a brand new set of BFG drag radials too. Who else has done that in one night?

I don't care if I ever race another Marauder ever. I know what my car can do at the track, and I am happy with this. If I do race again, it will be among friends, and for the fun of it.

Our upcoming Sebring event is another kind of race, and we may find ourselves pitted against each other, but I won't see it this way. I cannot wait to see how my #1x performs against this most famous track, other Marauders present mean little to me, other than friends sharing the same space, and the same fun.

This cannot be a "Marauder vs Marauder" race event, because so much of it is really driver vs. track. I may do well. I may break. Nonetheless, it's me and my Marauder against the track. Only I can claim victory, or, admit defeat.

Sorry, BDJ, more than you asked for, I know. But, you asked.

Talk amonst yourselves...

Sir, I don't believe we will even get an opportunity to race one on one at Sebring.
The way I read the original post from fasteddieee it was track time with an instructor in the car with you at all times. Not sure though, have to check the SVTOA website again...but I agree with your main point.
When i think about some of the cars and drivers that have been on that track, and they're gonna let ME on it???
Sebring will be a blast, anyone else want to join up with us?

Without a race how do we make some of these people stop lying about how fast their cars are?

Look at the KY Bourbon Trip. No racing goin' on there. Just two whole days packed with fun! There are 26+ people going! Goes to show racin' isn't all we have in common!

I voted Yes....with activities...if you can't tell.

Absolutely. Anyone who shows up with a need to prove something should have to wear a sign. Hard to avoid here but a sign would get me going in the other direction in time to avoid ruining my day at any and every meet. Dennis:beer:

I will say that at the last two MVs racing was a big part. There are people that would like to race and see how other members cars perform with the diferrent mods done to their cars. Without racing what is everyone gonna do, race and do burnouts in a parking lot and on a street? I'll take the racing thank you. There was no mine is better than yours at either of the MVs. It was nice safe fun.

Depending on the schedule, etc. I would certainly attend without access to a track but to date the only time I have been on a drag strip is at Maraudervilles (2 and 3) and I did enjoy my few passes.

I don't consider my passes racing, just me getting to accellerate the way I want to. :D Sure, I keep the timeslips so I know how I did but I certainly don't brag about them (except for the random .002 reaction times).

I plan to sit with you and Donna and sip single malt. (you owe me one y'know)

Racing doesn't matter to us, Jim; we'll be there to see our friends, if we can..:D

Oh, yeah, Garfield owes me a smooch.;)

I would in a heart beat. I liek the fact of just hanging out with fellow owners looking at others' cars and swapping the stories. Racing is not necessary. Spirited romps from spot to spot commanding attention though, is a must.

I agree. I don't recall any outlandish boasting, hurt feelings, or arguments at all at MVII and MVIII drag racing. In fact, most folks thought the drag racing was a highlight event both times. If two marauder owners can't go down the strip next to each other without having hurt feelings, then there is something wrong with those people...not the racing. If you beleive a simple get together at the track causes ill feelings, its only because you want it to. I've never heard a harsh word at the track in over 20 outtings with the MM.net and MCM guys.

I wouldn't get so worked up about the thought of drag racing that we need to go out of our way to avoid it. That's simply negative and paranoid. That said, no...drag racing is not mandatory IMO. It would not "ruin" the event not to have it. But, there DOES need to be things to do.

If people just want to sit in a parking lot and twiddle their thumbs then so be it. I will not drive across the country to just sit and listen to bench racing BS:down: . There needs to be something of interest there. If that is all there is I won't be attending. I can always to go to St Louis with my fellow PT Cruisers if I really have to attend a "national" meet.:P

Jim you asked no comments so I will keep it simple, NO. I will not drive outside Florida without drag racing, it is a CORE event to me.

....and one more thing: I don't race against Marauder owners...I race with my friends.

Yes. I don't really "need" racing. I have enjoyed MM gatherings both with and without drag racing. It has all been good. I have sat in the stands and taken pics of some pretty awesome cars and felt privileged to just be a part of it... even as a spectator. I have also run down the track a few times ... actually a first for me. Will I run again ... maybe, if I can do so without embarrassing myself or the Marauder family. I think that it is the getting together that makes it special. Car venues and car related activities just seem natural.

Do I need racing ... No. H3LL, I don't "need" a Marauder either. :D

Big Slim,

I don't think the originator of this is ruling out the races, he is just trying to guage the intrest in those who would make the trip even though there may be no drag racing. I love to run but that would not be my sole factor in driving to a National meet. That is just like the Hot Rod Power tour...a great group of guys and gals, driving across the map hanging out and having a down right gogd time.

You might be on to something.

I enjoy the mass Marauder cruises. MVIII had the largest identical car cruise ever. I bet that was a record.

The membership speaks. At present, 42 say racing isn't important to them when considering attending a meet. 17 say it is. 13 shrug, which is fine too.

For some folks, a meet is about the car. For others, it's about the owners and friendships with folks from across the country. I doubt anyone will disagree that the friendships are more durable than the car. Yes, the Marauder brings us together, and gets us around to the places we want to go, and there's Marauder fun in this as well.

However, clearly, racing is not essential to entertainment of Marauder owners. Neither will it be avoided if the folks gathering together wish to do so. It's always an option, but the notion that there will be nothing else to do without some form of competition among us, is sad.

Meets are about owners, us, the folks who mutually enjoy the automobile which brings us together. As it's been observed, nothing is more fun that watching us arrive somewhere in mass numbers, be it a restaurant, distillery, car wash, or, race track. Motorcycle enthuiasts have been enjoying meets across the country for over 50 years now, and they love to parade around. While some do race against each other, the bulk of them do not.

Since our first meet of members here, the race-less meets out number the racing events ten to one. Anyone who wants to add that feature to a meet, need only to speak up and it will be included as one of many event possibilities.

BTW, Big Dog asked us to not turn this discussion into argument over the when and where of MV-IV. On his behalf, thank you all for respecting his wishes.
