Hello All,

I am embaressed to say I ate a curb while pulling close to the ATM machine. I have about 18 inches of scratches on the outer rim of my wheel. Can anyone suggest a process that can file down the rough edges and maybe paint or refinish the damage. You have to look close to see it but I would rather have to look really really close to see it.

Stay Safe,

Andy

PS did you change your smoke alarm batteries last weekend? Well go do it now please!

Don't remember the company's name but there is an outfit that specializes in repair of alloy wheels. They advertise regularly in Road & Track. Check out a few issues to find them.

Yeah Andy one of mine was damaged by an automatic car wash(never again)(left rear) but it's gouged pretty bad:depress:

any good wheel polishing place can fix it....our wheels are just polished(and probably clear-coated) not chromed

There are many specialty Wheel shops tha can repair aluminum wheels. Get an estimate and see if its worth repairing. ( not cheap) If the numbers between the repair and new are close you may want to purchase a new one. John:(

Why not check with a Harley-Davidson dealer local to you? Those guys are always doing something with their rims, and they may know of a shop that's also local to you, that could help you out. Just a thought...

You can check to see, if your wheels are chrome plated easily.

Aluminum can't be chrome plated directly. In order to get them chrome plated, they have to get a layer of copper on them first and then chrome plate it. If you see some red/brown color shine thru at one your scratches, it'll be a lot more difficult ($$$) to get them fixed.

Most likely our wheels are only polished and clear coated.
This should make your fix a lot easier.

Good luck !!

The wheels on the MM are clear coated. Too lazy to look up the past threads but it has been discussed before.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, I am dreading the day I scuff mine up.

I scuffed mine going through a "Touchless" Car Wash. The rollers ate the lip up. I'm looking for a better price than paying $500.00 plus at the dealer. Anybody have any ideas?

One of the car tint techs that I used a month ago gave me this business card to call concerning my damage to the passenger side wheel. From their website it seems that they have offices nation wide.
