So I am considering getting the marauder repainted here in the next couple of months, the factory paint job really blows and is thin and soft as hell. Scratches really easily and the bottom half of the car is starting to show its wear. I wanted to run a couple ideas by you guys to see what you think. Ok first the car will be repainted black of course but dont know what shade. I have heard that viper black is the darkest black you can get, I know how can black get anymore black but I have seen it againts my MM and it is BLACK lol. The other thing I was thinking of was doing it black and adding a pearl to it, like a blue or a silver pearl, nothing really outrageous just really subtle. You know where you can see it only in a certain light. I really think the balck with blue pearl would look amazing. So what do you guys think?

Black with blue pearl has been done.
Logan did it with his MM#2, when he had it completely repainted.
The few pics that I saw .... it looked really good.
I'd love to see someone add some sort of of a gray/platinum pearl to a black base ... that or a dark metallic green.
The new owner of Logans' MM#2 is a member here too I think .....
Maybe Logan or him will chime in with some pics for you.

I always thought that 2 tone silver and black would be cool. It would be the same paint scheme as the Harley Davidson F150. What do you guys think?

Unfortunately, the picture in Logan's gallery doesn't do his paint job justice. Buckwheat now owns the car.

I think DSG would look awesome but I really dont want to do a repaint. The two tone is a neat idea but I really dont think it would look right on the car.

I really like the pearl white. I had a pearl white Thunderbird LX and loved it. I really dont want to do a color change. And dont worry I wont go with the burnt orange LOL

True Blue !
Best color FORD produces.

JoeFrom what I understand, Rolls Royce is pure black with a black base. Many other blacks have different color bases which I dont understand but that is what my father was told when he had his Rolls Royce repainted...
If I ever get a black car repainted I will use Rolls Royce just to see the difference. Maybe it was BS, maybe not.

If you are going back to black go with enamel.
That way you cant see the white from the clear coat when it scratches.;)

MarauderMarc can you do that 2 tone where the break up line follows the body line all the way around the front end and over the top of the grill.

Sorry I am not feeling the two tone. I really want to see a pic of logans car. Another color I just thought of is the Tarmac black on the EVO VIII. Its black but has a hint of blue in it.

I would use the original Ford color in Imron.
The key is in the prep...

I didnt even think of that, I know they used imron paint on alot of the mcdonald douglas helicopters. Do you know where I might be able to get imron and what price. If I remeber correctly the shine that comes form inron is amazing. Wonder how much it would take?

If I remember I priced two years ago and it was over $15,000. to paint the car in inorn, not many shop will work with it, two stage job.
I had mine done under warranty by Ford 5 week job cost $8,200. June of '04. I had one of the early Aug.'02 builds that were bad from the factory.

I think it looks so good I did mine!

Know this. The Ford black has some brown and some blue in it. I know this cuz I mixed a batch myself for the repaint. I followed the Dupont code exactly. My painter friend made a different batch with only the black tint. Screw the mixing code. You can tell the difference in the can.
Also know color is the base coat. Pearl is in the clear. The amount of pearl can be varied by adding more to the can or making more passes (coats) on the clear. More coats encourages sag and drips. Light pearls over black make the black look lighter than black. One must use a dark pearl (cherry, blue, violet, etc.) to keep the black black. I did a test panel with dark red over black. I looked like I sprinked cinnamon on the black.
I will make this suggestion. I almost did it to mine. Tape off a graphic design to your liking. Pearl the graphic lightly. Unmask while still wet. Spray the clear 3-4 coats and bake it. Then, the graphics will flip the pearl color in the light. In the end, I wanted less subtle. But, I have done this.
Check out my old car. We did this one in a home garage.

This car was black. Scallops are silver pearl. Whole car was shot with purple pearl.
Good luck!

Do it any way you want. I wanted to keep the front end black. It's all in the tape baby.
I spent 27 hours with my painter friend in the booth.
It ain't easy.

THe key is the quality of the clear coat. The best thing to look for is a painter with a down-draft booth (not side draft) and a heater to bake the clear. Have at least 4 coats sprayed. Then wet sand and buff a week later.
It took 1.5 quarts (mixed 2) of black, 6 ounces of green, 2 quarts of silver. seven quarts of clear to do mine. I helped tape and prep. I mixed the paint. My friend sprayed and even with all that teamwork, it was still a marathon. You can't let Dupont paint dry before the next coat. Once you start, you can't stop.

I was going to suggest red pearl over black to give it a black cherry look. But, maybe not.

That's what we thought, and it worked from 30 ft. Much closer and you could see the actual bits that make up the pearl since pearl is actually a powder of ground up plastic.
