View Full Version : Measuring pinion angle(???)

Does anyone know how to, and what you can use to measure the pinion angle of a RWD car??? I'm asking you this because I chose adjustable upper rear control arms for my 70 Chevelle. They come adjusted to the stock setting for pinion angle ( I believe it's 2 degrees), but according to what I've read, many drag racers find that an 8 degree setting turns out to be optimal for traction on the dragstrip. And I can adjust the pinion angle with these new control arms while they're on the car. But I cannot take advantage of the adjustability w/out being able to measure the pinion angle. Has anyone ever seen a specialty tool for taking the measurement???

Billy,
Our engineering dept. uses a magnetic angle master against the driveshaft to determine driveshaft/pinion angles.
Just my .02.

Thats a good way to find out "drive-Shaft" angle.
This works well IF your pinion yoke is machined like this shows.

That is indeed a good article.
