For the past two years, I have averaged 30-35000 miles a year on my 03 Ford Ranger.
I am considering getting my wife another car (Maybe another Marauder), selling the Ranger to my son, and using the Marauder for business...
so, I would like to hear comments, etc. from those of you that have piled on the miles on your Marauder. Believe it or not, I wouldn't lose any gas mileage, just hesitant on putting lots of miles on a future collectible.
Comments please?
Jim,
As you well know, I'm in the same situation business-wise as you. That's one of the reasons I bought a Vic instead of the real deal. However, taking a cue from you, I see a Marauder in my wife's future to replace the Marquis. That'll at least still allow me to drive around in relative comfort with requisite power for work while having the real deal for the weekends. Kim only puts about 3000 miles a year on a car and parks inside at work.
Enter DTR. I'd hate to have two silver cars. Blue is virtually unobtainable and black just doesn't cut it in FL for a daily driver.
My boys will be driving in the next year or two. One has sights on their GrandPa's Mustang. Maybe the other will go conservative and drive Mom's white Marquis.
Finally, could you really drive a neo-classic into the ground like that. I just couldn't do that. My car is just a Vic. There's no market for a used Vic. Ground, here we come :fire: .

Whether this car will ever be a "collectable" is up in the air, but let's no go there.
I bought a second Marauder for myself, and I am glad I have. It's another mild winter day here, and yesterday was nice too. Very tempting to break out the #1x for some driving fun.
Before I bought #3, that would have happened, because I just love driving these cars. But, now my hunger is diverted to the #3, and it's very fulfilling, and a lot of fun to drive a bone stock Marauder.
Get another Marauder, you can't go wrong, IMHO.

I may know a little about racking up the miles on a Marauder. 116xxx smiles on it as of this a.m. It's a great car for travelling, and, IMHO, is pretty much bullet proof. To go along with the miles, I now have 223 timeslips, photographic evidence of burnouts in 37 states, can't remember ever backing down from a street light standoff, etc. Mileage is good (27ish highway, always better than 20 in town, unless...). It seems pretty stable at speed. The NHTSA rates it excellent for crash worthiness. The only time I don't feel safe is in the snow. If I put snow tires on it, that would probably take care of that problem. It all boils down to how much fun you want to have. I'd say get the Marauder. I've had a blast.

You're asking a Marauder board if you should get another? C'mon, it answers itself :baaa:
Oh, and, put down another vote for MM #2

I personally would like one MM in every color. I vote yes for another Marauder, but you already knew that. Now back to the question, I would say go for it. Im sure there are countless Marauder owners out there who either dont realize what they have or just simply dont care. So why not take one from someone else's hands or from a dealer and get some great use out of one of the baddest cars on the road. Better you than someone who wont appreciate and baby it. If financially you can do it over a vic then I say go for it.

Paul,
27ish hwy? Hard to believe! The best I ever got on the hwy was 24 and that was with the wind at my back, going downhill. (That is going from a higher elevation down to a lower elevation). This was in NM and TX last November.
I also get 18-20 around the county, but that is driving it easy.

I could get 22 mpg after i changed a few setting on the computer and most of the car was still stock. I have 90,000 miles on mine and their mostly highway, but it was a daily driver and would go down the 1320 every other weekend. So yea it's great and I never had a single problem with the car....... other then traction in winter doesn't exist so I can't drive it till at least march.

There were only 980 04 DTRs made. Fewer than that now exist due to wrecks, thefts and vandals like the guy who painted one orange... Using one to just pile up the miles is sacrilage, IMHO

Jim, I traded an 03 CV LX Sport on my Marauder. Thought the CV was a very nice car but I realized that it needed more than the Sport Package. The HP was fine for daily driving and highway, but handling was floaty at high speed. Sway bars would probably have solved that however. Overall a nice vehicle. Made 4 trips the entire length of the Atlantic seaboard, loaded with STUFF. Racked up 36K in less than 2 years (retired, so no work use) Had NO problems other than a window lift that needed adjustment. The spread from 03 CV to 03 Marauder seems to be about 8K. I think worth it but then I am not driving that kind of mileage. You drive the CV she drive the Marauder, not a bad plan. She drive the new Marauder you drive the old? Good plan as the Marauder will probably alway be a higher value trade than the CV. I think for some time there will be lower mileage Marauders and none of them we know about will ever be newer than 03. Of course, the nearer you get to the warrentee expiration on yours the fewer reasons not to S/C...Now that is a real PLAN. the 8 grand will buy a very very nice S/C installed...Dennis:D Buy the CV Sport, Trilogize the Marauder. You won't look back. IMHO's read the M for many

Miles will never hurt a car if you take care of it.
Believe it or not, I wouldn't lose any gas mileage, just hesitant on putting lots of miles on a future collectible. This like Mac said it's a far reach in my book, Mercury's really don't rise in value like other cars. Sad but true.
Comments please?
Just do it!
