First let me start by saying hello! I've been lurking on this forum for about a month now and this seems like a really great community of car enthusiasts.
I'm 22 and right now have an S2000. I have been wanting to get something faster. This time I want a car that when I mash the loud pedal it pushes my eye out of my ears. I have friends with Cobras and Camrao SSs and I love them, but you see them everyday, you know? I've liked the Marauder since it debuted and thanks to my Dad, my roots are in hotrods and muscle cars. So I think my next ride is going to be a MM with a big fat blower!! I've found a couple of used Marauders near me (one has 9K miles and the other has 13K!) so hopefully next week I can make a trade in.

Now with that said, I'm just wondering who is the youngest owner of a Marauder on this forum? I can only assumed that the age of most everyone here is 30 and up; not only because of the nature of this vehicle, but also how every one conducts themselves and the fact that many of you have experience with V8s. ;-)

I believe the youngest here is 17.

Dude, welcome.

1st, I'm not dogging your Honda. I used to build civics. I smoked an S2000 on the way home from picking up my MM. This is to say I was used to the FWD, handling, and weight of my 210 HP Neuspeed civic and changed to a 4500 lb RWD beast and still smoked an S2000 on the highway my 1st hour in the MM. The driver had a confused look the whole time (top down) and I had a grin, but I was still nervous due to the change.

The moral... 4500 lbs of body-on-frame leather clad haul-a$$. As many or more parts available than S2000. Plenty of room. A little more respect from LEO's. And, best of all, try to find this level of community support in ricerville. Get one today.

Good luck with your search for a MM, I am a new MM owner, Adopted in 10/05 and have to tell you that The car gets more attention than just about anything on the road. People stop you almost daily and ask about it. Just a suggestion - look for a Blue one, it may take a while but it will be worth the wait.

Actually an S2000 is significantly faster than a stock Marauder. It runs 14.2 1/4 miles vrs. Marauder's 15.1 stock. Then again, you can't take five people and four heavy traveling bags in an S2000 but you can in a Marauder. If you get a Marauder it's for a different reason than an S2000. It's because you want a swiss army knife. A car that can drive fast, take corners, and still perform all the duties of a family sedan. Not to say a Marauder can't be fast but it takes a good amount of money. I'm younger than you are btw at 21 and I've had my car since late August of last year. Good luck in your search.

Im pretty sure I am the youngest on here. Born May of 88. All I can say is get one! The car simply has it all. The part that I like best about it is that Ive only seen 2 other marauders around my area and that nobody my age had any clue as to what it was when I first got it in September of 2004 but let me tell you everybody at school knows what it is now! Its really one of the only modern cars that I can think of that appeals to such a wide range of age groups.

Wow, I gotta say I am overwhelmed by the responses I've gotten from this community. And to whoever said the ricer community wouldn't respond the same as those on this board is right. Those guys over at S2Ki don't know jack about American cars and are so closed minded to the idea of even giving one the time of day. It's really weak to call yourself an automotive enthusiast and be so bias. Thanks guys!

Target age was 45 .... check post #5 on this thread >>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9290&highlight=target+male

... for more of the original "Customer Profile" demographics. :D

The Marauder Customer
The 2003 Marauder appeals to the customer who wants an aggressive, fast vehicle. They are pro-American and like to live on the edge. Marauder provides them with a great deal of driving pleasure while still meeting their concerns for safety and security, operating costs, easy ingress/egress and value for the money. This customer may have wanted a Mustang Bullitt or Cobra but really needs the passenger space. This page represents a close look at the demographics, needs, expectations and overall mind-set of the target Marauder customer.

Key Demographics
The Target Marauder customer tends to fit within these averages:
Gender - 80-85% male
Income -$60-80k
College educated - 60%
Married - 65%
Average age - 45

Target Customer
Marauder's target customer:
Is a performance vehicle enthusiast and has good technical sense
Is likely to do extensive research on most of his purchases
Will have a strong opinion on what he wants
Has to be active, have fun and be engaged in life
Needs to be true to himself, takes pride and gives 100% in whatever he does
Craves excitement and exhilaration
Has a need for authenticity, integrity and dependability from people, products and services

The target customer also responds primarily to these Passion Points:
Love for cars
Need to set themselves apart
Attention to detail based on knowledge
Need for quality and assurance
Spending time with family and friends
Cost and the Customer
The typical Marauder customer is cost-conscious and is often of the following mind-set:
Willing to pay a premium for a vehicle but only if it resonates closely with "who he is"
Higher priced products driven solely by image offer no appeal to him
Marauder will be part of the household fleet, so image and power are not his only concerns --- it must also have the functionality to accommodate his everyday needs
Cost of ownership is a consideration --- dependability and reliability are important to him --- he expects quality from the product he buys
Aftermarket kits will likely be purchased and will be considered part of the Marauder purchase

Welcome to the site! Hope that you get your Marauder soon.

You won't be disappointed...it is a GREAT car and fairly rare...you will get A LOT more looks than driving your S2000.

Not to bash the S2000... but,
you will find that driving a car that makes max torque at 4,400 rpm is much more satisfying than buzzing around in a car that makes max torque at 7000 rpm.

P.S. When you buy your Marauder make sure that you have some extra $$$ left because you will get bitten by the "mod" bug....
:hmmm:.... headers, mufflers, 4.10 gears, rear control arms, CAI kit, UDPs,......supercharger!

Thanks for all of the responses guys, it's nice to get a warm welcome from fellow enthusiasts.

But... I don't appreciate all the negativaty towards the S2000. First and foremost you guys are comparing apples and oranges. I would hardly call piloting an S2000 around Road Atlanta and nailing the 9,000 RPM redline when exiting a corner, "buzzing around." It sounds like some of you are just as closed minded as your respective counterparts in the import community. I haven't even told some of my friends that I am doing this trade b/c I don't fee like hearing their bull****. "You're trading the S for a what?!" or "Isn't that just a Crown Vic?" or "That's a grandpa car!" Am I the only auto enthusiast that has a completely unbias opinion towards almost all makes and models? At no point in my original post did I say, "I am completely unsatisfied with my Hon-duh S2K so I am getting a Marauder which is a far superior car!!" I love my S2000, but I am simply trading it in because I don't have the need for two cars. The main reason I am getting a Marauder is because I want to mod a car for the sole purpose of going really fast in a straight line, which I think is what every auto enthusiast really loves the most deep down. I suppose it is inevitable to meet enthusiasts from any specific community that don't like to hear that there are some things their beloved cars can't do that great. The Marauder and the S2000 both have their respective pros and cons, as do all other makes and models. I wish more gearheads could open themselves to experiencing something out of their norm.

I digress...

StevenJ

If your sole purpose is modding a car to go really fast in a straight line and nothing elese, I think the best thing for you is an LX 5.0 Mustang. Again, I never said anything bad about your car. I do not like Honda but I've have a say because I've owned an Accord (2003 model) for a year and a half and I didn't care for it. I do like the S2000 however but its power is very peaky. The Vtech is an okay motor. It makes good power at slower city speeds but chokes on the highway.

Again if you're looking for a Marauder it is a car that is meant to do everything but not excell in anyone field. It is part muscle car, part sport sedan, part family hauler. You sound like you are expecting a Mustang with four doors, it's not that fast stock. Well the good thing is for $350 you can buy a Xcal tuner from Lidio, Dennis, or Blue oval Chips, and run 14.8/ 14.7 and it won't void the warranty. Stock, you're still looking at a 15.1-15.5 car.

Try to find a 300B or later car. 300A models have a number of problems since they were the first cars off the line. There's a real easy to tell an A from a B. When you step inside the car, if the clock is seperate from the car radio, ie. the clock is in the center of the dash, it is an A model. If the clock is in the radio, it is a B model or late. Another way to tell is to look for the traction control switch. A's don't have traction control but B's do.

I'm well aware of how fast the Marauder is in stock trim, that's why I plan on throwing a blower at it. I want a faster car, but Mustangs are so common (I know, I know, that is a lame reason to not consider it:rolleyes: ) and I want something a little different this go round... well a lot different in the case of a Marauder. My dad got me into muscle cars from an early age so I've always had affection for big cars. I've had my S2000 for about a year and a half and I want to try something different, that's all. I was just trying to say that I think some of the members here misunderstood my reason for parting with my S2000. It's not a bad car by any means and I'm certainly not going to let any one else down it. But I didn't join MM.net to say good things give praise to the S2000, so back to the matter at hand:
Me + blown Maurader = :burn:

From me, it's not being closed minded. I was indeed a ricer... not to mention one of the first in my area. I took a bashing in the mid 90's from my car friends saying what the hell was I doing with a Honda... 'till I ran their 'stangs! At one point the S2K was on my top ten dream car list. In any event, I just want ya to know that's how much more I like the MM. Don't believe it won't tail an S2000, or even a 'vette up an on ramp! Set it up right and it sticks in the corners, too. It just has more inertia and must be driven more... I dunno how to say it... smoothly... through turns.
In any event, you sure won't regret it.
Good luck and enjoy!

I'd have to say the Marauder I purschased back on 12/02/05 (used) has been my fav vehicle I've driven beisdes my 89 stang/cobra. I am 24 and have owned many different types of makes and models and I remember when the Marauder had came out and I saw a black one cruising by and I was like what the hell is that thing, so I chased it down to see what it was and had always told myself I would get one of those. Well I got one just not all black lol. I always saw things happen for a reason....I had been in a car accident back in Oct and was rear ended by a drunk driver going close to 100mph on the highway while i was going 60 in my 2001 Focus ZX3. Totaled my car, laid me up for 2 months :censor: but if it hadn't happen then I would never have got the chance to drive such an amzaing and graceful beast, plus the money I'm getting from the accident which will buy tons and tons of parts will make me feel really better  lol. Glad to have joined such a upstanding car group...MM 4LIFE :burnout:

Welcome to the site bryanthomas!

From someone who has both cars I can tell you, in stock form the Marauder definately feels like a faster car. Of course with proper modifications (a little forced air ;) ) it can smoke the s2000. The s2000 for me used to be an everyday car but once I found out all I could put in the trunk was a loaf of bread, it wasn't that useful anymore (and now all my friends bug me for rides in the Marauder).

The s2000 is a fun car, I've never seen a car handle better in the corners, ever. I have a cousin who is a BMW master tech, and he autocrosses every weekend. s2000 is somewhere at the top every time. 2nd gear is just designed for that kind of thing.

What it all boils down to is what is your preference. Do you need a car that's practical, corners good, accelerates fast? I would say the aftermarket parts availability is pretty much the same for both cars (all you need is $). Going to college you see a lot of g35s, bmw 3 series, etc... Some people joke because I drive a big old man's car and I tell them, at least it's different (and it set's off your fancy car's car alarm). Good luck with your search!
