OK, my car came from the factory with a BMD0 code. Remember a few months back when I had such trouble with the dealer and they replaced 3 processors trying to fix their screw up? Now I'm not sure which code I have. I asked the dealer if they have a record of which one was finally put in, and they didn't even know that the processors came with different code numbers! I need to find out because I need to get a program for my new 4.10's.

Obviously you are assuming they didnt put another computer back in with the same code. Otherwise obviously the sticker on the door jam would be correct. Assumption sounds reasonable since they didnt even know the computers were coded.

IIRC there is a sticker on the computer itself on the plastic where the harness plugs in. I didnt think there were any other stickers on the thing.

Bad part is, if I am right, you would have to pull the computer out to see. I think it is a 10mm socket to unplug harness from computer on the engine bay side. Disconnect negative first. Then look under dash. I cant remember how the factory computer is held in other than a spring clip at the back and a 'tab' on the bottom..... I modified mine when we put the PMS in the car so mine may be slightly different.

But for your sake I hope someone else responds with some other info....

You dont have to know your exact code, just if its a 2003 or 2004.
Any file overwrites what is in the computer with the file from the tuner.

Unless it's a chip? Doesn't the chip apply a 'delta' type of upload? (in which case you'd need to know what base calibrations you were beginning with?)

I thought '03's had different codes. All the '04 codes are the same.

I don't know about 04's, but there were several different codes for 03's. When I first got my Diablo chip when the car was new, I needed to use the proper code to get the right programming.

For 2003 MY only, the chip has to match the ID of the code in the PCM
or else it won't start.

If you still have your chip, try it.
If the car starts, the the code is the same as the one the chip was made for.
If it doesn't start, then the code is different.

If you can get your dealer to scan your PCM, I think they can tell you
the ID code from the scanner.

Look on the PCM, theres a plastic access cover that will have the processor code.

IF they ordered a new Processor for you. they DO NOT come programmed, which means the dealer had to flash it. They most likely found your calibration code and flashed it to the 'family' that you had before.

If your car is a 03 300A, then thats all the person doing your chip needs to know.

The code sticker on my door jamb was removed when they were repainted.
Lidio asked me a couple questions ( build date, trac control ) and I was good to go!

Open your trunk. Under the spare tire cover there is a green wizard. Ask the wizard how many monkeys are in a barrel, if he says 5, you're wizard is is a 300A. If he says 6, you have the 300B. Each will give you a different PCM code, be sure to write it down, Ford only allowed us to use the Wizard once for cost cutting purposes.

I'm not crazy, I'm not crazy...

You know, Rider, the scary part is that your answer makes more sense than what the dealer told me.
