Jerry,

I spoke with Mr. Lenord, at Hansel Ford, last week and he told me that he and another potential installer in southern California could each do about 20 installs if the Trilogy Kit for the MM was California Certified. Has this information been conveyed to you?

Isn't the sales amount (really profit from) sales of 40 units enough to defray
the costs of certification?

I sure would like to get one of your kits on my MM.

Californians spend a lot on their cars.

I think it would be a good market!

Thanks and Best Regards,

David

Whoa! I was not aware of that fact in Cali. I hope that works out for you guys.
Nothing better than a Trilogized Marauder.

Bradley, why would they have to pay an extra 4 grand each?

It'd almost be easier to move......like to Nebraska or something.

CARB certification is a 6-digit expense.

I wouldn't look for it anytime soon.

I believe Jerry quoted the certiification cost at approx $30,000...but I would think if Trilogy could get 20 or 30 confirmed orders from the left coast, that might make it more likely.

Chuck, how would you, Claude, and shakes feel about re-locating to CA for a couple of months? :)

No guarantees that he will get certified by the "Republic Of Kalifornia"....that is one of the big problems!!!!:argue: :mad2:  :shake:

I would LOVE to go to California! Doing some installs would be icing on the cake!

However, the $30,000 is the cost of each testing process alone. If, for any reason the car fails [even if it has nothing to do with the Trilogy kit], subsequent tests are another $30,000. So, if for some reason during the test, the car puked an O2 sensor, Jerry would be out thirty grand. Then factor in buying an unmodified car to be used exclusively for this test, the engineers, the overhead in California, travel expenses, and a kit, and it gets real expensive real quick.

Carb certification ain't happenin with the Marauder kit.

Seems like it would be easier to go after the California lawmakers for a repeal of the law or simplification of current law.

You're kidding, right?

The ROK (Republic of Kalifornia) is going the opposite direction, getting even more restrictive. And the shame of it is that the rest of the country eventually follows suit with the stupid regulations. Best thing that could happen is the car companies just quit selling products in ROK altogether. Then the public will wake up and either move away or elect some representatives with a brain...

We're still waiting on Jerry to respond to this latest thread with specific numbers of people wanting installs of the kit.

Could you register your car in another state?

Perhaps with a friend or relative?

What Tallboy said!

Talk to Tom Leonard or Team Extreme Motorsports in Southern California. I am very sorry, but that's the best I can do.

Sincerely,

Jerry

You know, with what you CA guys have to put up with, it's amazing to me that Southern CA is still such a hotbed for hot rods, mods, etc. Or maybe that's just how Hollywood paints it these days. :)

For what it's worth, you aren't the first person in CA who has wanted to modify their car but somehow done it anyway. Trilogy is not the first and certainly not the last to have to lose the CA market due to that state's gov't regulations and red tape for CARB certification.

Personally after learning the costs of CARB certification (not to mention hidden costs due to the time and run around required) I'd say your best bet is to find another way to get the Trilogy blower on your car. Maybe hit up a few cruise nights and ask the guys there with mods on their cars how they are getting by emissions.

I'm surprised there aren't grey market "brokers" out there who offer to have your car's garaged address out of state, like say, Nevada or Arizona. (Actually, I believe there very well may be, but how "grey" these markets are is not something I am aware of here on the other side of the states.)

Best of luck to you!

At anyrate, I'm sure loopholes exist. We found out in VA accidentally, a typo by the dealer on the original registration form resulted in a certain family member never having to get their car emissioned.

Living in California, I can honestly say, SCREW C.A.R.B! When finances clear up, I'm going to have one installed. I don't have to get smogged till 2010, and I don't give a damn what C.A.R.B. thinks. If all goes well, I'll have possibly 80 to 100K miles by then, and the car will need to be overhauled anyway.

Just gotta tidy up some warranty issues, too :D
