Okay...

March 06 issue of Mustang and Fords, pg 86.
Ford Tech Q&A, Submission 'Oily Situation'.

Rob wrote in asking about the 5W-20 oil recommended for our Modular Engines.

He goes on to state that some 'armchair experts' claim that the 5W-20 viscosity
is only to help meet CAFE standards and that higher viscosity oil
should be used for the best lubrication, which sounds sensible.

On the other hand, Robert states, others have told him that our engines
are built with much tighter tolerances than before, and too high viscosity
can actually damage the bearings.

Now I remember posting in this discussion, just about the tighter tolerances
in today's engines, so Rob should be a member or lurker here...

The response from Mustang & Fords was that the engine tolerances are tighter,
and that a high quality full synthetic 5W-20 oil should be used such as
Klotz, Rotella, Redline, Royal Purple, and others.
They also stated that the same is true for all pushrod engines.

Robert Sweeney, stand up and take a bow !!!

So how do the magazine writers justify the years and years of 5W30 being specified for the 4.6s? Is this the basis for a class-action suit? (ie. not specifying the right viscosity of oil leading to premature wear?).

And what would they have to say about Ford's specification of semi synthetic for the Marauder, not full synthetic?

And since when have we started taking magazine writers' output seriously?

Note: I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the recommendations. Just wondering why we should all of a sudden begin endorsing magazine text...

Because the information posted came from an interview with KLOTZ LUBRICANTS.

I wrote a short version of the post.
You want to read the full version, buy the rag.

I am only looking for Robert Sweeney to give him some recognition.
I am not looking to start another Oil War thread.

Lets please keep it this way...
