View Full Version : Raise the read end

Anybody know how to raise the read end of my '04 Marauder? The rear fender wells are almost touching the rear tires. I am interested in raising the read end 1" and lowering the front 1". The solution for the front is a new set of springs. The rear has me puzzled.

FYI: I am running 255/55/18 Rear, 235/50/18 Front

I believe there is an adjustment for the rear air suspension. There was a thread with instructions. Can't seem to find at this time.
I am sure someone will post it.

or the previous owner lowered the ride hight... in that case use the search button and search for lowering rear end, or anything like that. all answers are there ;)

If you raise the rear end by moving the sensor it will lower the front a bit as well!! There are several who have done this and you will find how to do it by searching.....

I had some smaller tires up front and you really have to be careful in a parking lot or you will rake stuff off under the front when bumping a parking stop...BE YE CAREFUL!!!

This is the original thread.

The drawing for the lincoln is useless. Ours is not like it at all. One post has a very good verbal description.

Took a look at mine while on a lift. Fairly easy.

Your Marauder isn't sitting lower, someone stuffed more tire under it. OEM rear tires are 245/55-18, you have 255/55-18, right? Here's the difference...

.25" taller sidewall
.39" wider track on the pavement
.43" taller tire
1.36" larger in OD
10.77 fewer revolutions per mile.

There's nothing wrong with your air suspension, and the advice posted here on how to recover your lost rake is accurate. Best to find a "drive on" lift for your fine tuning.

Lost rake? He would have more 'rake' with the taller tires in the rear

no?

Yes.

I would guess someone put the larger tire on, then lowered to compensate, but went further than just compensating.

IMHO be careful. When I had my eibachs installed and my rear height set at stock I was A. Cut off on the freeway, manuvered and almost lost the back end and B. I had to do an emergency stop ( Vegas traffic naturally) and expereinced some serious "bucking" of the front end. Not exactly saying it WILL happen but this has been my experince. Problems went away when i dropped the back 1 -1.25 in.

I am not even going to touch this one.

I think I knocked mine out a little when I did the sway bar. It seems to sit a little lower now.

Lost rake? He would have more 'rake' with the taller tires in the rear no? Well...Yes.

Taller tires will raise the body and frame further from the ground. However, I'm understanding the opening post to say that the wheel well lip appears closer to the tire, and larger tires would make this true too. It's a larger tire all around, therefore, it's filling space normally left open by the stock size, which will appear as if the body has been lowered.

Good advice. We already have a significant front weight bias. I tend to drive mine like a slighty lowered pickup, knowing the rear is light. I have a little more rake with 1/4" smaller fronts and 1/2" bigger rears. That only amounts to 3/8" more rake than stock. It's not as bad as LVM, but I can feel it.

Good Luck!

For those lowering the back end significantly, you need to modify the rear end's bump stops. You can get a good look at them in MI2QWK4U's gallery through one of the shots of his new control arms. They are about 3" long plus the rubber stopper, if you drop the car two or more inches you will most likely hit the stop during normal driving, just cut the excess spacing (Aluminum) off the bump stop and retap for a bolt in the center.

Props go to Zack for that one.

BTW, What is the stock setting for the ride height sensor?

Props go to Zack for that one. Yes, props to Zack for educating you, and props to Kenny Brown for creating the mod. It's part of his Marauder S handling package.

Thank you for the replies. I found the article from "Brian (FordNut)" to be most helpful.
