Who doesn't get hassled for tints? I own my MM 3 yrs now and still have NO TINTS. I will get as legally dark as I can when I do.

It seems to be a pretty common excuse for a traffic stop here in Florida. Dennis :D

2 members down here have been cited for illegal tint. Mine is legal and it is still dark.

I was ticketed about 6 months ago. I still cant believe it. I have 5% limo tint all around except for the front window.I love it and wont change it.

Mine is 20% all around I believe and it is not dark enough. I know it illegal in the front, but I haven't gotten hassled....yet. Got a ticket with 15% on my CV bout a yr ago though.

I had my car "limo tinted" October of 2004. I had NEVER been hassled by the po-lice until last December I got a pulled over for my tint and given a 71.00 ticket....45 minutes before my birthday! My guess is that we look like cops so we dont get harassed as much. When the cop put the meter on my window, it read 3% all around.

*Note: Depending on how strict your state / inspection-station is, don't forget to factor in the factory tint.

aahhh...that's 28/15/15...from the same source

BTW, I was ticketed (warning) in Georgia (Cobb County) for tint, and at the same time, for tint on my license plate. Have to go to court for that one. Dismissed by the judge.

My roomate was just ticketed for 13% all-around in Pompano. I have 28% all-around. But remember the windows already have a slight tint from the factory already, so even if if you get 28% it will be a little darker.

PS we have 4 tint meters in the district I work out of, and rarely see tickets for tint here. (Boynton/Delray/Lake Worth)

In Florida if the driver or any one in the family has an eye disease or disorder
which is aggravated by bright sunshine a Doctor can write a letter/fill out form
which allows the car to have 5% tint all around (front & back) as
directed by State Law. See Florida Statutes.

You guys are lucky, you have a light meter to measure with, and a scale of what's legal and what's not. Here in Illinois, it's all in the officer's opinion of what obstructs the driver's view.

OK here's the deal. Most officers will not mess with you and tint. You can take a chance and tint your windows as dark as you want. But if you get stopped for say speeding then roll all 4 windows down basically just to make the officer more comfortable.

Technicaly if he is a hardcore or newbie officer he can give you a ticket for all the windows that are tinted. Here in Lee County it would be $69.50 per window.

Now if the officer is being a pr!ck about your windows buy a light meter and ask you local law enforcement agencies that have tint on their vehicles if you can check them they might let you or might not. Chances are the tint on the marked units in your area are illegal too, there's no statute that says police cars can have a tint exemption unless it's under cover. Then it's you right to take it to court and inform the judge that X many uniformed cars have tinted windows and when they clean thiers you'll clean yours.

I have 6% on both cars and haven't had any problems.

I have 20% all around and like it, looking back I may have done 15%. But I could not do 5% at night its really dark. Ironically my friend just got pulled over for tint. He has 5% all around and 35% on the front windshield, but the cop did not say anything to him about his front tint.

You would be suprised....it's actually up to the judge. A few times while I was at traffic court I've seen a couple people fighting tickets that they got for speeding. The thing was they were following patrol cars, one guy got a ticket for 63 in a 45, he tells the judge I was following the deputy, the deputy went into the left turn lane and back out and pulled me over. Then the guy tells him "with all due respect your honor when the deputies drive the speed limit so will I. " I thought this clown is going to jail, I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing my ass off.

The judge asks the deputy were you speeding? The deputy tells him maybe slightly.

The judge asks, were your police lights on? The deputy says no sir.

The judge tells the deputy sounds like this gentelman has a good point....Case dismissed.

The point is you have to use use common sense and choose your words wisely.

I am 5% rears,20% driver pass windows,and 5% 12" front windshield
I'm always questioned by officers, but never ticketed
I bought the car 10/02 and tinted since 11/02
I've been allover the Southeast, and most cops just wave as I pass them
But then again, I don't drive a flashy Marauder

Hi all,

My son (and wife) had my windows tinted for Father's Day last year. Limo tint on the sides and rear (nothing at all on the front.) Looked great! My wife got a ticket from the Highway Patrol for windshield tint too dark. (Remember, no added tinting on the front.) Anyway, I had the tint changed on the front side windows and had it checked by the local Sherrif's Office (Highway Patrol Office had no meter, huh?) Sherrif's Deputy that checked it said it was still a bit dark but signed off on it. He said the Trooper was probably just being a butt. Car still looks good and fairly dark in the rear. I never had any trouble seeing out at night.
