For all you racers out there:

I wanted to let you know we have a special thru the end of March for bulk purchases. If 10 individuals from MercuryMarauder.net want a MAXCOOL, now is the time to do it...We will do a group buy for 10 or more MAXCOOL's for $28 each - and that includes shipping to any US address with a 5 digit zipcode.

see: www.maxcool.com

I have no interest in MAXCOOL. Just thought I'd pass this on.

Is MaxCool related to this guy??

I think it beats bags of ice dripping all over the engine.

Ummm...Anyone wanna be the first on their block to throw an ice pack on a hot blower between runs?

Mustang guys use a towel under the bag of ice to absorb the water.

I like Amazon Racings duel fan kit that goes on the heat exchanger. You simply run the fans in the pit to cool down the blower. According to Amazons site, it moves 80 mph of air while the car is sitting.

If we could get the OEM fan to work w/o the car running, that would help alot.

I have been for quite some time now. Hasn't caused me or my rig any harm.

Am I missing something here?

Why not e-fans? Increase hp and have ability to turn off/on while car is off.

I have been for quite some time now. Hasn't caused me or my rig any harm. Am I missing something here? The pics at the MaxCool site show an ice pack on top of a blower. IMHO, that's not a good thing to do. Consider if you will that the metals used in a blower will expand when they get hot, and contract when they get cold...Have I got this right?

So, what's the expected outcome of a bag of ice (or this MaxCool product) placed on top of a heated blower after a pass? Cool case, heated internals? I see a problem with this, unless internal clearances inside a Procharger are greater than I expect them to be. Clearance inside a Vortech blower say don't try this. If the blower doesn't come apart in the next pass, at the very least I would expect increased friction inside the blower, which will generate even more heat, therefore, what's the point?

IMHO, cooling the blower won't change anything. It's the blower that's superheating the air charge by compressing it in the first place. The air charge need to be cooled after supercharging, therefore, icing down the blower doesn't do anything for performance.

Chilling the outside of the intercooler helps, but on the minimal side, and it's not possible on a Trilogy build because the the intercooler is under the blower, inside the engine. IMHO, the best results for speedy chilling is a blast of CO2 on the heat exchanger, or, WTA reservoir.

Finally, I would expect a fresh bag of ice to be colder, and stay colder longer, than an ice pack frozen at home and kept in a cooler until trackside, and it's a lot cheaper.

Cooling the intake path is good, and it helps N/A cars a lot, but Charlie said it best. "Gimicky".

Why not e-fans? Increase hp and have ability to turn off/on while car is off. I've experimented with e-fans too. The problem with them is that they block more air flow at speed than they produce themselves. I've used fans on my heat exchanger, and aux. tranny cooler, and got the same results both times, everything eventually ran hotter. Besides, fans wear out from the constant exposure to the weather, I used the Derale stuff, and three of them burned out in one year.

Ouch. Sounds like some hassle. I had heard of them before but I didn't know what kinda results some have had w/ them.

If the ice melts.. and water gets on the engine and evaporates... even further heat transfer through evap...

A lot of tracks won't let you put ice on the intake while you are in the line to stage because of the melted water. It would be interesting to see if they allow these packs.
